Angelo Ruggero - 11/23/12 06:16 PM

A couple of questions:

1) What was Angelo's position in the Family? I know he was a Soldier in John Gotti's crew but after John became Boss, it seems depending on which article you read that Angelo either became Capo of John's crew, or Consigliere, or Underboss of the Family. What exactly was his position after Johnny Boy rose to Boss?

2) I've read alternatively that after the whole tapes fiasco he was severed from the Family completely, while others state he was simply demoted down to Soldier and simply kept far away from John Gotti....What actually happened, and when did John actually get pissed at Angie over the tapes?

3) Was he actually Neil Dellacroce's nephew? Some sources claim he actually was which is why Neil had his back on the issue of the tapes, others claim it was a fib made by Angie to make himself seem more important than he was

Well, as far as I know, Angelo was a soldier at first and as you stated was promoted to captain of the Bergain Hunt crew after JG became boss. When the tapes dropped though, and he had his falling out with JG, he was demoted back to soldier. Yes, he was Neil's nephew. Im just stating what I have read many times in various books and documenterys.

Yeah Angelo started of as a Soldier and when Johnny G became Boss he was promoted to Caporegime. Angelo was involved in drugs and Gotti wanted him killed also for allowing himself to be recorded by the FBI.

I'm pretty sure that he was NOT Neil's nephew. He used to say that to boost his status.

"I don't think John (Gotti) gave a fuck about Angelo or the tapes. I think he was looking to create a situation to capitalize on our other grievances about Paul".

Salvatore Gravano's own words from "Underboss".

As far as I know after all the tapes from him thinking he was out smarting the feds by blabbering on his daughters princess phone about all his heroin business, I'm pretty sure he was put on the shelf and gotti was so mad he didn't even go visit the poor fat bastad while he was dying.

Interesting perspective by the Bull. I would go with that but I do think John and Angelo had a really long friendship. I think that maybe he used that as a catalyst for capping Paul, but I don't think he completely didn't care about Angelo.

I don't think he's referring to John and Angelo's relationship, but how John didn't give a fuck about the pile of shit Angelo was in, and instead used that as an "excuse" to kill Paul.

I think Gotti and Fat Ange went all the way back to their childhood/teenage years. I think they were in the Rockaway Boys gang together.

Benny, I have a question. I thought Gotti was not going to be boss, that he took position by killing Castellano. Where there other plans for him to be boss? I ask because if there was no plans of him becoming boss, how would Angelo R. be in line for captain spot? Gotti would not be going anywhere, so there would be no opening.

Re: Angelo Ruggero - 02/17/13 05:26 PM

Gotti was never going to boss with the coup on Castellano, people knew he was a degenerate gambler, his brother was a major drug dealer and the family had many other more seasoned leaders if something else had happened to Paul..

Yes, Gotti would have never been boss by natural progression. He had to make it happen.
