This name may not be that hard to promounce, but it´s a hell of a job to spell it right.

Rosario Vattelapesca

Francesco Pasquadibisceglie

Anthony Canavacciuolo

Vincenzo Monterubbianesi

The following ones are not long nor hard to pronounce, but it's all about the meaning:

George Terrone (terrone is a racial slur towards southern italians)

Pierfrancesco Troia (whore)

Luciano Spinelli (ganja joints)

Christopher Gazzo (with a C would mean dick)

Vincenzo Gandi (funny lastname for a criminal)

No wonder why many Italian last names were changed or misspelled at Ellis Island...

Yup.

Sometimes immigration authorities replaced last names with the place of birth, due to the different designs of name tags.
They used to wear pieces of paper with their first, last names and town of birth written on it.

So: ANTONIO (first) BUIZZA (last) BRESCIA (town) became Mr. ANTONIO BRESCIA.

And it happened to all immigrants, Gremans, Hungarians, all...
