When Was the Mob Removed from the Airports?

I know they used to have a big presence here, stealing and union infiltration. Just saw a documentary on the Lufthansa heist which was 1978. So when did the mob get kicked out of these activities? I'm guessing they have no involvement currently in any stuff in NY airports?

I think it was around the 80s most likely. Then for a few years there was no activity. Then around the turn of the millennium a gang called "TSA" took over the turfs across the nation.

Exactly. Not to mention the fact that Homeland Security is in every major United States airport today, with actual branch offices at the "Big Three" in the New York/New Jersey area.

We've talked about this before, but if you think the American Feds are tough on the mob now, just wait until they start using the terrorism statutes to prosecute them. These statutes are relatively new, but look how long it took for them to implement and master RICO.

The last place a wiseguy with even an ounce of intelligence is going to commit a crime today is at an airport.

i remember this old guy from a boston telling me how in the 70tys he take a flight to florida just strap 2 bricks of coke to his body and bring it home no problem.

Thanks for this it's very interesting but i think Nicky meant ( correct me if i'm wrong Nicky ) consistently involved at JFK it seems this was an isolated incident .

Take it from an insider, it is extremely difficult to steal anything on a large/meaningful scale particularly from any of the three NY/NJ airports. You will get caught before you even know what happened.
