Re: new Mobscene - 08/22/12 07:04 PM

Why would Ligambi and the rest try to beat this? These trials don't ever go the mob's way anymore. Ligambi is in his seventies he'll be lucky to beat out his sentence if he's convicted. I think Angelina and Lucibello were smart to take the plea deal. Personally I just don't believe that Ligambi, Staino, and Borgesi can beat these charges.
Btw, I've heard Skinny Joey runs the show from Florida now
Does this hold merit?

I don't think Ligambi has a choice. The prosecution probably isn't offering him a plea deal since he is the head of the organization and public enemy #1 to the FBI. As for Staino, Borgesi and others, there is still time for them to plead out. Staino has no record and a lighter charge against him, so he wouldn't be looking at many years either.

That's what the FBI are saying. He's almost done his house arrest and will come back to Philly soon. Perfect timing with Ligambi going to prison.

When Merlino comes back to Philly do you think he'll be flashy like in the old days or keep quiet? Seems to me in this situation they nabbed Ligambi but Skinny Joey will still keep them going. The rest of the guys will get out in 4 or 5 years and they'll be back in business.

He won't back in town until 2014 at the earliest, and even after his supervised release ends I don't see why he'd come back. Hes living in a very nice place in south florida with his family, I'm sure hes fine with mazzone dealing with the headaches.

Re: new Mobscene - 08/22/12 09:40 PM

I'm not sure about that. Merlino doesn't seem like the type to shy away from the life. He may have been running the show the entire time while he was shacked up. My guess would be he's giving orders to Mazzone with the whole trial going on right now. But he won't really be free until he's off parole

He's been in contact with the Philly Mob ever since his imprisonment. The FBI even picked up on wiretaps Ligambi saying that Merlino was proposing guys for membership and that he will do the ceremony when he is released from prison. Merlino is a street guy to the core. There's no way he's walking away from the life.

Re: new Mobscene - 08/23/12 01:18 PM

I dont think he is coming back as he was, he would be in for the bigger scores and there isn't much he can get into up here without getting locked up for life on RICO charges I say he prolly stays in Boca and runs some rackets down there with the white collar crooks in real estate and gets real rich

Re: new Mobscene - 08/23/12 03:04 PM

My big question: is he out of Florida and in Philly? And if he is does he still run things?

Re: new Mobscene - 08/23/12 03:32 PM

According to the superceding indictment, he never reliquished is title of boss. I doubt he is doing much of anything with rackets IN Flordia. I think he will stay down there until his supervised released is over. Then you will see him back in town, if not for good, at least here and there. NO way he stays out of the life or south philly for good.

Re: new Mobscene - 08/23/12 04:20 PM

SP, you are probably right and joey has an ego that probably won't allow him to stay away...and Philly lets face it is a great city and he ran it at one time, thats hard to shake, hangin with the flyers and phillies down on delaware ave, for his sake I hope he realizes he isn't 20 or 30 something in the clubs down on delaware and he's a 50 year old felon who missed a good chunk of his kids lives...but at the end of the day SP, joey is a gangster from s philly and that is what he knows and probably loves

Re: new Mobscene - 08/23/12 05:50 PM

When he does get back he'll need to realize that in order for him to stay OUT of jail he'll need to keep it quiet for a good long while. If he wants to rebuild the Philly LCN after the hit it just took he's the only who could do it (not that I support him in any way), but he's gotta take a page out of Ligambi's book and lay low.
