Greek Mob - 07/30/12 06:19 PM

What's the state of them in the USA? I thought the Philadelphia Greek Mob and the Velentzas crime family aren't what they used to be. But then, are there other Greek mobs around in the USA ?
The Greeks aren't the biggest, but they still might be a tad underrated. In Australia there's also Greek OC going around and in my country Belgium there are also quite some Greeks involved in some shady businesses.

i'm pretty sure the two groups that you mentioned are the only two groups of note active in the united states, but i'm not sure how much influence either one has at this point outside of a few greek neighborhoods. i know in new york they seemed to mostly focus on gambling with the lucchese family, but other than that not too much.

Philadelphia Greek Mob used to be big in the meth business. I don't know if that's still the case. Greek OC isn't really all that well known, but it does exist in quite some countries ( Greece, USA, Germany, Sweden, Australia, Belgium ).

Greek families are active in Cleveland, Akron, Warren, Mansfield, and Cincinnati, Columbus to a lesser extent. COlumbus back in the day from the 20's till around the 70's had a family that was involved in serious bootlegging which evolved into a private beer company that was ultimately sold sometime in the 80's i believe.

Greeks are kind of like the russians in that they don't have any formal structure at all, very low key almost jewish like in the way they spend their money compared to their networth, but they do meet together on a various range of activites mostly bookmaking and they all have seperate things going on.

Young kid from mansfield whose family has been contected to cleveland since the 1950's runs quite a large bookmaking operation in Cincinnati that his family has ran for years.

Those little "internet cafes" that have been popping up everywhere in Ohio that are actually gambling parlors that use the internet is what you're talking about here, right? They're all over the place and the state is going to be cracking down on them soon.

I've also heard that there are a lot of Greek guys still around based in Campbell, like there always have been.

Ya bill mason is all pissed off and going after everything not owned by dan gilbert (casinos). He just arrested and closed some cafes operated by greek and ukrainian guys. Although a judge allowed many that were closed temporarily to open back up two weeks later. We'll see what comes of it.

sam Georgekopoulos ran a decent gambling racket in Cleveland until he started dry snitching which only got him self busted. I was actually there when the raid went down.

there was a small network of Greeks who ran card games in Cleveland's westside . mostly old guys. I went to there club which every one just dubbed "the greeks".

There actually was a Greek mob group in Houston ( http://usa.greekreporter.com/2009/06/06/greek-mafia-houston-inherits-greek-godfather/ ) . They apparently played a big role in kicking off the strip club business around there .

Anyways is there any info on the state of the US Greek mob in 2015 ? The Velentzas family and Philly Greek mob are listed as active on wikipedia , however there is no contemporary info available about them .
