A "Uniform"

A "Uniform" - 05/01/12 02:59 PM

Why is it that wiseguys all tend to wear the same thing--The polo shirts, slacks, button down shirts, Daddy-O shirts, jogging outfits, etc etc. Maybe they don't today, but at least in the 70s, 80s and 90s they did. How come you never see a Mafioso in just jeans and a T-shirt? Would make them stick out less and seem less obvious.

Also, when/why did wearing a pinkie ring become the symbol of a made man?

Those are some good questions, I do know in the NE, mainly jersey and philly it is something a lot of guys wear everyday if you are out and about around those areas, I have seen them in teh jogging outfits in july

Guys today are wearing normal stuff, nike, puma, jeans, t-shirts suits etc. There's a picture of Barney Bellomo getting his mugshot in jeans and a jumper. I think there is less of a "uniform" than ever today.

I think its not necessarly a mafioso uniform but more of how alot of italians dress. also, how theyre broughten up. alot of these guys there fathers uncles cousins etc are mob guys and brought up dressing like that. merlino that is also true ill see alot of guys in the middle of the summer with a full jumpsuit on. but how they were broughten up and culturaly i think has something big to do with it all

It's exactly how you said. It's cultural. Every little thing, these guys try to equate with being a mafioso, when in fact most of it is cultural. The no hair thing, the kissing hello on the cheek, the way they dress. It's cultural.

Used to be adidas and puma in Italy, now they are all wearing Nike. And the scarf around the neck. They all wear it. If they all wore it here in the States, they'd say it's a mafioso garment. But whatever. I'm tired of beating a dead horse.

Cute profile name, btw. wink
