There was some media speculation to that effect. But Manocchio stepped down as boss some time late in 2009. And at that time, or early 2010, Anthony DiNunzio took over as acting boss. Limone was indicted before all that back in December 2008.

Can we presume the senior Gambino member referenced who was broadcasting live for the Radio FBI was Stefanelli?

Others have wondered about that as well.

Limone is probably still trying to count his share of the £100 million dollars compensation:)

Darin Bufalino has just pleaded guilty to both state and federal charges. Got 7 years for both but they will run concurrent. Puts pay to a few rumours on a previous thread that he may have flipped.

If you do a google maps street view of 155 Endicott Street, Boston you can see DiNunzios Gemini Social Club. Sat outside are a bunch of old timers catching some rays! Its like the cab stand scene from Goodfellas:)

Peter Limone is on five years probation and cannot be in contact with any OC members. He caught a break with no jail time because of what he had been through. I think that he was made the boss after Manocchio stepped down. After he pled out, then Anthony DiNunzio stepped up I believe.

What I found interesting by reading the Globe article is that it sounds like Manocchio was asked to retire. I had thought that it was his decision. Apparently not, I wonder who was involved in asking him to step down and what would have happened if he didnt.

Here is the link. Sorry, wasn't the Globe after all. The quote is below.

Quote:
Anthony DiNunzio's son is also with the New England mob but does not answer directly to his father, according to arguments filed by prosecutors in court seeking DiNunzio's detention while he awaits trial.

24 and made? Do you still have to make your bones to get made? Haven't heard of any murders recently.

Here's some news video of the press conference. It appears Limone was acting boss briefly after Manocchio stepped down and before DiNunzio took over.

Louis Dinunzio is allegedly a made member but doesn't seem to be any sources out there confiriming concretely but i would say he is. No you don't have to make your bones anymore its not a LCN rule as a whole anymore but im sure there are still certain capos and made guys that would make you kill someone if you wanna get made, but the mob life is a violent one and is controlled and ruled with violence so even if you didn't make your bones to get made you would be involved or carry out murder eventually once your made if they tell you to kill someone and you don't they will kill you

Also unless the murders are public or are tied into a case you would't hear about it. If some soldier goes missing it won't be in the papers unless they solve it

There certainly are lesser known guys do go under the radar. Which has led to people thinking there are no mob hits these days. But, for example, Ralph Coppola was never found and he made the news. But he was an acting captain and related to Bellomo. But there are a lot of lower hanger-ons, wannabe's, etc. that get hit and it doesn't make a lot of news.

Today's Globe article.

Some interesting quotes:
Quote:
In a conversation with the senior Gambino member in June 2011, he speculated about who was cooperating with authorities, and he concluded that it could be a former New England Mafia boss.

He went on to explain, according to court records, that he dispatched an associate to try to locate the former boss.

I wonder who the former boss is, my guess would be Salemme.

Here is a photo of Robert Malerba who apparently bought the Cheese Shop from DiNunzio and most likely received the threats noted in the Globe article. According to someone who used to post on this site, he is a member of the Revere faction.

Ivy,

Your by far the most lucid and intelligent person who posts here. However Ralphie Coppola wasn't related to Barney, Barney was like a brother to him, Barney would have never let anything happen to him had he not been in the can. Remember Pete Peluso the lawyer was trying to get the electric chair for Barney at the time. He was halfway thru his first sentence while Ralphie disappeared.

Pizza any opinion?

You're right. Brain fart on my part. Fiorino was Barney's brother in law.

Correct, Tony the world famous paddle ball player amongst other things. Actually a great guy. Ralphie and Barney grew up together. Were like brothers, he was a cowboy and forgot his "Rabbi" was away and couldnt look out for him. Kind of ironic, Ralphie had a great business which was taken over and didn't miss a beat!

Ferland said DiNunzio was told by his associates that former godfather Francis “Cadillac Frank” Salemme was “giving up everybody” and ordered one of his henchman to locate him.

“Fortunately, Mr. Salemme is tucked away safely,” Ferland said.

Anthony DiNunzio is the younger brother of former reputed boss Carmen “The Cheeseman” DiNunzio, now serving a six-year stretch for bribery.

Ferland said Anthony DiNunzio’s trusted Rhode Island captain, Edward “Eddy” Lato, last April told an informant — now in witness protection — that DiNunzio is “nuts” and questioned the legitimacy of his rise to the top after his brother was busted.

Lato, Ferland said, also complained about DiNunzio’s Robin Hood-esque penchant for taking cash they were extorting from Rhode Island strip clubs and “giving it away like candy.” Another mobster, identified only as “Mr. S,” was tapped by DiNunzio to run Rhode Island but was taped saying he planned to break out on his own.

“Forget those idiots. ... I’m going to build my own crew,” Mr. S said.

Meanwhile, Ferland said, Lato was concerned DiNunzio saw law enforcement as “a joke.”

“It’s dangerous when the boss thinks that way,” Lato told the witness.
