preferred weapon for a hit?

preferred weapon for a hit? - 01/22/12 08:04 PM

hey guys was wondering which weapons are used most in hits. seems like a lot of silenced .22 pistols as well as .38 snub-nosed revolvers. also you see in movies a lot of piano wire, was wondering if this is based on fact or is just overly dramatic for the movies. you also see/have seen alot of bombs used in italy but more sparingly in the us. discuss.

"Throw away Glock" as Tupac would rap. Also 'The Sopranos' gave this to be true, though more often than not probably a Saturday-Nigh special .38 Snub

Don't know which is their weapon of preference in America, but in Italy their traditional weapon was initially the sawn-off shotgun and later the Kalashnikov machine gun.
What I don't understand is why the Italian and Italian-American mafia rarely uses sniper rifles, like for example the Russian mafia does. When they killed prosecutors and judges in the 80s and 90s in Italy, they preferred to blow them up with all the bodyguards using bombs instead of quietly do it with a single shot.

I think Scarfo had a guy killed by sniper while the dude was pumpin' gas. Lenny Strollo in Pittsburgh had a guy sniped.

A well placed .38 will send any man straight to hell.
I think the good old .38 revolver was the main choice from 1950's through to the 1980's

Re: preferred weapon for a hit? - 01/24/12 12:04 AM

definitely a .22, preferably silenced. A .22 will do the most damage at close rang because there will be no exit wound, the bullet will fragment and do the most damage to the brain. 2 behind the ear and you can't lose.

it was a show of their strenght they wanted terrorize the italians, the government, that's because they used this tactic it was a corleonesi's way, those times are ended now
they could kill the prosecutors some years before in rome with a rifle, they did it because riina ordered so

It was Rizzuto Sr who got sniped and Frank Monte , Scarfo's consiglieri was killed by Joe Pedulla and Vic Deluca of the Riccobene faction by what could be considered a snipe shot(s)

Re: preferred weapon for a hit? - 01/24/12 04:41 PM

Depends on the circumstance. If the hit man can get very close to the victim, a .22 revolver is the best. It's not a self-defense weapon (not enough stopping power). But it's small, concealable, relatively quiet and doesn't eject spent rounds. If the shooter can get close enough to put several rounds in the victim's brain, it's perfect. You saw Joe Pesci do this to a woman in "Casino."

But, for general protection against other mobsters, and to threaten them, they need a bigger, higher caliber gun.

Damn Ivan, you know your Pittsburgh shit. Thanks for the info.

In anyways a hunting rifle may be the best thing to do hits with; great distance between shooter and target, you can get a positive ID on the target if you're using a scope and the hit can be done in a wide array of options.

Personally i'd go with either a silenced 9mm or silenced 45. You just can't depend on a .22 to get the job done. I'm sure Frank Martines and Vincent "Al Pajamas" Pagano would agree with me on that.

True, but you can't silence a revolver. If your not worried about the noise then i would think a .357 is a pretty good choice, better yet a 12 gauge. BA BOOM!!

But no way i'd ever use a .22, i know the CIA used to like using silenced 22's but imo .22's are only good for target shooting. Just too weak a round.

Yeah, according to an FBI source the shooter in the Naples hit was actually Amil Dinsio. Everyone (including me) just sort of assumed it was Poghen because it fit his MO (slick professional hit).
