Thought I'd share some topic related photos from around Palermo. The first group of photos is the Falcone memorial tree located outside the apartment building he lived in.

Chiesa di Santo Spirito and Piazzale dei Vespro. Where the night of the Sicilian Vespers took place. The church is located in the Cimetero Ursola where Falcone and Michele Greco are intered.

The stretch of A29 that was blown up to kill Falcone. The markers at each end mark the area of highway affected by the blast. The panorama shot looks a bit funky as it was just too close to capture it right.

Tomba di Falcone.

Albergo Ucciardone. The last two pics are the area of the prison where the maxi trials took place. i wanted to get better photos of that area but management sent someone out to tell me to stop taking pictures.

These are beautiful!! I am going to Italy in May this year, i planned it for Napels, but seeing these photos makes me wanna go to Sicily instead.

First two photos of the bust of Garabaldi in Piazza Marina where the body of Joe Petrosino was found in 1908(believe that's the correct year) and the second two are a medical clinic named in honor of a doctor that was killed because he refused to falsify an autopsy report. The plauqe is on the grounds of the clinic.

I can't say much about Naples as I haven't been(would like to)but I love Sicily and especially Palermo. I've had alot of Italian friends tell me avoid Naples due to crime/trash problems....but then again I've had some tell me to avoid Sicily too. For me, if it came to a choice of the last place I see in Italy I'd pick Sicily again.

The Borsellino memorial tree. It's located where the blast happened in front of his mothers apartment building. I was totally amazed at how small the area is. In the footage I've seen it looks like a fairly open area but there's buildings directly across from there, can't be more than a couple hundred feet. The last picture of the graffiti was at the end of the street as you come onto a main roadway.

The first 3 pics are a plaque to Falcone that sits in a somewhat lonely park behind Chiesa di Magione. The other two are where Pietro Scaglione and his driver were asassinated.

First three shots are the Delle Palme/ground floor. The other two are a memorial to Mafia victims which sits in a piazza just a few minutes walk from the hotel.

The first two pics are Piazza Einstein and the light in the piazza where Toto Riina was busted. The third is the gated entrance to his villa which is about a ten min. walk away from the piazza. I was under the impression that his villa was the only one there and had been turned into an anti-mafia museum. There were in fact quite a few villas and only one had the look of a business which actually looked like a government building and was gated off in any case so couldn't locate his actual villa.

These were actually in Montelepre. The first two are Salvatore Giuliano memorabilia inside of the restaurant his nephew runs. The next two are outside of the house Giuliano grew up in (we got an inside tour but couldn't take photos) and the last just a shot of the town below.

Corleone. The first shot was on the way, second shot was the first piazza we came to in Corleone which, I found ironic,Piazza Falcone e Borsellino.

These were taken over several trips(but yeah...had a great time on every one)and I'm coming close to the end of the mafia related things. Going back to Palermo in a couple weeks though!!

The first three shots are of the Death Chamber of Sant'Erasmo. The last two are of the bay were remains would sometimes be dumped.

Heh,i just wanted to ask how long u stayed and in what period photos were taken,looks like summer to me.In thread i opened on 3rd page i posted a pictures of Falcone and Borseilo murder scene and funureal.U might want to take a look.

Yup, that was the end of my mafia pics. Here's some of the Cripta di Capucci for you Strax that I had mentioned a couple weeks back. the first pic is of the first monk that was interred in 1599.

Wow Strax.....you have a buttload of pics there I've never seen! The pics there of the Borsellino sight give you a bit better sense of the size of the area as opposed to the footage but still doesn't capture how small the area actually is.

Our first trip was in July '10. We spent a day in Palermo and that was the trip we went to Montelepre and Corleone. That was a two week stay but it was a working vacation so really only had the weekends to get on the road. The next trip was in April '11 and then Oct '11. those two were 4 days each in just Palermo. Well, Monreale too on the last trip.

Just found an article about this Falcone plaque. Apparently this spot was chosen as Falcone and Borsellino used to kick the soccer ball around this field as kids.
