Documentaries about organized crime - 01/09/12 10:25 PM

I have noticed there are some people here searching for documentaries about organized crime. I have some that are hard to find online, as far as I know. If somebody needs any of them, tell me which one you want and I will post them online and give you the link (preferably not on youtube, because videos there are often deleted).

The fifth estate – death of the don (about the Rizzuto family and the murders in Montreal)

Mobsters – Jimmy Hoffa
Great crimes and trials – Jimmy Hoffa

Casino – the true story

Criminal underworld – Histories Las Vegas
National Geographic – Inside Vegas mafia
(these 2 have the same videos, but the narrators say different things for some reason)

Nothing personal – popping Champagne (about the murder of the Colombo family associate Larry “Champagne” Carrozza)

Detroit mob confidential

Mob scene – psychology of the flip

Final report – mob on trial (mostly about the Commission trial, of I remember correctly)

American justice – the Pizza Connection

True stories – mafia hunters (about a ‘ndrangheta clan in the town of Rizziconi in Italy; it is partly in Italian, but with English subtitles)

Mobs Mheiriceá - Danny Greene
Mobs Mheiriceá - Frank ''The Irishman'' Sheeran
Mobs Mheiriceá - Jimmy ''The Gent'' Burke
Mobs Mheiriceá - John ‘'Cockeye'’ Dunn
Mobs Mheiriceá - Mickey Spillane
Mobs Mheiriceá - Owney ''Killer'' Madden
Mobs Mheiriceá - James ''Whitey'' Bulger
Mobs Mheiriceá - Pat Nee
Mobs Mheiriceá - Jimmy Coonan
Mobs Cheanada - The West End gang
Mobs Cheanada - Brian O'Dea
(These are partly in Irish, but with English subtitles)

Just tell me if anything goes wrong because, since it's the first time I'm uploading something, I'm not sure if I did everything right.

the fifth estate has no audio!!! its not my pc as i played music and other videos, try and listening to it and reuploading if possible, thanks for posting these up

Re: Documentaries about organized crime - 01/10/12 12:23 AM

It's strange, I just downloaded the other video - "Nothing personal" to control if it's all right - there was nothing wrong and "The fifth estate" was uploaded in the same way. I will try to split it in 2 parts and then will re-upload it, maybe it will help.

I hope this works. I controlled the videos before posting the links - I downloaded them again after uploading and they work fine on my computer. "Nothing personal" (the link is on my previous post) also works - at least I have no problem with sound or anything else. But anyway, tell me if they don't work on your computers - I will upload them on youtube then.

Re: Documentaries about organized crime - 01/10/12 03:36 AM

I still cant get it to work, even after choosing the slower download and Megacloud (whatever that is, probably spyware or some shit) Its a paysite, is that why? Because Im not THAT interested.

But; fuck yes, the Fifth Esate sounds awesome. Is it possible to just embed it if you have a link?

Thanks for the effort,, in any case. Would be great to actually watch them.

Did you manage to make it work? If not, I can try to put the videos on youtube. The problem is that they often get deleted there for copyright reasons, which sounds ridiculous to me since they don’t even sell those things on dvd or vhs, so the only way to watch it is to download it.

I fully agree. This applies to many NGC documentaries. Some they don't even broadcast anymore, and they don't sell them on dvd yet you aren't allowed to view them on youtube. ohwell

Btw, is it true the quality of the Fifth Estate is not really good? Thanks for you're efforts though!

Do you mean the image quality or the quality of the narration? I didn't have problems with either but I am not really an expert, so I can't really say if it's good enough from a professional point of view.

I also would like to ask: does anybody here have the series "Mobfathers" about the mafia in Philadelphia and the documentaries
"City confidential - Youngstown: mob hits and misses"
"Investigative reports: modern mobs"
"American druglords: the Cali cartel"
"8 murders a day"

These are either impossible to find or are for sale only on vhs (so I can't watch them as I live in Italy and vhs which are not from Europe don't work here)
Posted By: Sonny_Black

Re: Documentaries about organized crime - 01/10/12 05:46 PM

Can't find them either on the newsgroups I'm a member of...

The image quality is not really good, but it's watchable so it's not a big deal. I'm already glad I'm able to watch it as me and Mukremin wanted to see it for some time now.

Re: Documentaries about organized crime - 01/10/12 05:55 PM

Btw, I have "The Final Report: Getting Gotti" in high definition quality. If anybody is interested? I also have the Drugs Incorporated episodes in HD.

Some might also find this one interesting:

Thanks for sharing the documentaries, its awesome. Been looking for Death of a Don for ages, just like Sonny said grin. Good job Dwalin!!

I already have these, but thanks for the offer.

By the way, does anybody know what happened to Joseph Tomasello – the underboss of the Colombos featured in “Nothing personal”? Is he in jail or did he manage to extricate himself?

I also have the following documentaries which I didn’t put on the list yesterday, in case somebody is interested:

Gangland Ireland (4 episodes; not to be confused with the series “Badfellas” which is available on youtube)

Cocaine wars (about a gang war in Dublin; 2 episodes; should be 4, but the series was blocked after a convicted gang boss made a complaint the series would compromise his position during his appeal)

Dirty money (also about organized crime in Ireland; 6 episodes)

FBI files – the Dixie mafia

American gangster (about famous black gangsters; season 1 and 3; I also have the 2nd, but it’s on dvd)

I also have the following on dvd:

Black hand strawman (about the Kansas city crime family)

Tokyo Joe – the man who brought down the Chicago mob (about a Japanese-American gangster who worked with the Chicago mafia and then turned them in to the law enforcement)

City confidential – Elizabeth, NJ: death of a don (about the DeCavalcante crime family and the John D’Amato murder)

American gangster season 2

La famille (about the [BadWord]-Caruana mafia family; it’s in French, but with English subtitles; by the way, why does this site substitute the surname I have written before "Caruana" with "badword"?)

The question is: do you want me to upload the dvds? Unfortunately, I don’t know how to make rips and can only make images of the dvds, but they would be too big and maybe this could create for you some problems to download them.

You may find it strange I am suddenly offering everything like that, but it’s because it would be interesting to discuss those documentaries with somebody who knows about the story of organized crime and the fight against it more than I do.

Please please upload: Black hand strawman (about the Kansas city crime family)
I wanted to buy it a month ago, but they said they wont ship to Europe
and City confidential – Elizabeth, NJ: death of a don would be great. !!

Re: Documentaries about organized crime - 01/10/12 08:14 PM

Just watched Fifth Estate about the Rizzutos. They showed a white guy clipping young Nick Rizzuto, Jr. They probably couldn't show a black guy do it (which actually happened) because it obviously would have been considered racism and stereotyping and shit.......

By the way, what collection is it this documentary comes from? There is a menu at the beginning where it is written this is disc 3 of the collection. Does anybody know how many discs are there, what documentaries are on the others and if it's still available somewhere?

The fifth estate worked great. I download Pizza connection and once I try to run it or open it is in a rar file and needs unzipping.

Re: Documentaries about organized crime - 01/11/12 06:40 PM

The original download of The Fifth Estate works flawlessly. I personally use the most comprehensive media player out there: VLC media player : http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

There is no media, video, or audio that it will not play immediately after installing. It's hard enough to get some of the docs you are so generous to offer and this software will sure help reduce the problems that are related not to your videos, but to incompatibilities on the end users system.

thanks for this

Just click on the first part of the archive with the right button of the mouse and choose "extract here" or "extract to", so you will get the avi file.

Owney Madden:

And the last not-so-easy-to-find videos I have that I forgot to mention in my previous posts:

Australian druglords (6 episodes)

Foreign correspondent - Japan - Without honour and humanity (about the Yakuza)

Tales of the FBI (not to be confused with “FBI files”; 4 episodes; they should be 6, but for some reason only 4 were released on DVD)

These are all rare documentaries I have, the others are easy to find (most are on Youtube). I also have many documentaries in Italian and Russian about local organized crime, but unfortunately they don’t have subtitles. Maybe I can try to make them for some, but English isn’t my mother language, so the subtitles wouldn’t be that good.

As for the subtitles for documentaries, if I start to make them, which subject would people here like to see first? Something about Cosa Nostra, the camorra, the ‘ndrangheta or the Russian mafia?
As I said, I may make mistakes in English while making the subtitles, but I hope not that many. I once had a heated discussion with a Vic Amuso admirer who didn’t even understand from my posts I wasn’t American and said I probably was “an envious, delusional, retired FBI agent” lol

As I said, I may make mistakes in English while making the subtitles, but I hope not that many. I once had a heated discussion with a Vic Amuso admirer who didn’t even understand from my posts I wasn’t American and said I probably was “an envious, delusional, retired FBI agent” lol

Thank you very much!

Re: Documentaries about organized crime - 01/20/12 02:24 AM

I have almost finished the translation of a 1 hour-40 minutes-long Italian documentary called “The history of the ‘ndrangheta”. I will finish the last things, verify if the subtitles work well and tomorrow will upload it. I hope you will manage to understand what’s going on in this documentary even though the subtitles are far from perfect – as I said, I am not an English mother tongue translator and it’s the first time I am doing something like that, but I tried my best.
I hope somebody is interested.

I know there's already a documentary on the Philly Mob on Youtube but I just found another, about the War between the Stanfa/Merlino factions.

If you like it, I can translate other documentaries about organized crime in Italy from this series.
The subtitles don't work well in bsplayer and maybe in some other players because they dispose themselves in a long line that goes over the limits of the computer screen, but there is no problem in vlc and windows mediaplayer.

Re: Documentaries about organized crime - 01/21/12 10:03 PM

Thanks for the appreciation!

So how do you like the documentary? I found it very interesting and some things really shocked me, like the practice shooting with the cut-off head and how that [censored] women and children from the village helped the ‘ndranghetisti to capture the escaped hostage. I have always thought that local people just pretend not to know anything and never talk to the police, but to actually HELP the organized crime even before being forced to do it…..
In my opinion, there is also a good example of the common concept of a “good old, traditional mafia who didn’t murder women and children” being completely false. I mean, Mommo Piromalli and Antonio Macri’ who belonged to the old, traditional ‘ndrangheta had a train blown up, which had women and children inside (it had to be them, because it was done on Piromalli’s territory by a Macri’ hitman, and in those times nobody did anything on their land using their men without their permission, even the De Stefanos hadn’t yet dared to do anything against them then).
By the way, how do you think the young ‘ndrangheta bosses managed to exterminate the old ones so easily? Theoretically, if you are a crime boss and managed to survive until old age, this means you have much experience and know better how to get rid of the enemies. If you are a young, aggressive boss like the De Stefano brothers, you have just a hot head and no experience, so it seems strange to me they won so easily. There was a similar war in Sicily in the 80s between the “old” mafia and the “new” one, but in that case the “new” Mafiosi headed by Riina were called like that not because of their age (many of them were old and experienced), but because of their mentality, so it doesn’t surprise they won.

About the further translations: do you want me also to translate some movies about the same subject? For example, I have a short series of 2 parts with 3 episodes each about the Cittanova feud mentioned in the documentary who can be used as a sort of illustration to it. It’s called “A fleeing child” (“Un bambino in fuga”) and is based on a real story of a boy who belonged to a ‘ndrangheta family losing the war and had to be placed under police protection. The problem is that only the first part is in Italian and can be translated by me, but I managed to find the sequel only in German which I don’t know that well. Maybe there is somebody here who could translate it someday? The first one can be watched even without the sequel though – they have different plots.
Unfortunately, the university starts soon so I will not be able to translate as fast as I did the first documentary.

Dwalin, I don't think there has ever been a "common concept" that the mafia in Italy didn't (doesn't) kill women or children. It's pretty common knowledge that anything goes and no one is off limits.

Maybe that concept being common is outdated information, I don't know. People know better today, but before there was (and there still is) somebody who considers the mafiosi as local heroes. I once watched an interview with some people from a town with a strong mafia presence and I remember when a young man was asked if, according to him, "his life would be better or worse if the presence of the mafia in it were not so strong", he said "I think it would be worse". I don't know if to laugh or cry at that statement confused

It's always been, and it's known today, that to get to a man, they will use his wife/mother/father/child to get to him. It's always been this way in Italy.

I understand what you're saying about the interview you watched, but you have to understand, many times the mafia has protected their own towns, or kept drugs from their own towns, and yes, people have felt somewhat safer having the mafia in control rather than local street thugs. It's true.

it's typical of the places where the mafia is extremely rooted in italy, i bet it's similar in the russian mafia, mexican cartels or yakuza strongholds

Re: Documentaries about organized crime - 01/26/12 05:48 PM

2 documentaries about the Russian mafia:

1)
https://rapidshare.com/files/473018779/Underworld_-_Brooklyn.part1.rar
https://rapidshare.com/files/116290177/Underworld_-_Brooklyn.part2.rar
https://rapidshare.com/files/426430186/Underworld_-_Brooklyn.part3.rar

This one is about the Russian mafia in New York. It’s in English. I didn’t mention it in my previous posts because I thought it was easy to find, but later I saw it’s neither on Youtube nor on Demonoid.

2)
https://rapidshare.com/files/4158588606/29thcomplexpart1.avi
https://rapidshare.com/files/809844837/29thcomplexpart2.avi
https://rapidshare.com/files/3084715791/29thcomplexpart1.srt
https://rapidshare.com/files/807198178/29thcomplexpart2.srt

This one is in Russian with English subtitles I made. It’s about a mafia clan called “The 29th complex” which was active mostly in the republic of Tatarstan in Russia. It was originally just a street gang, but in the 90s it evolved into a real mafia group.
Unfortunately, the subtitles may be worse than the previous ones because the structure of the Russian sentence is very different from the English one, the difference is bigger that the one between Italian and English, so the translation is more difficult.

And a spoiler for whom has seen the documentary:

Click to reveal..
Salyakhov got 25 years, Yeryomenko got a life sentence, Mironov got 18 years. Vlasov was captured later and got 15 years. Asadullin is still a fugitive. I wonder why didn’t they say anything about their sentences in the documentary.

Dwalin, I want to ask for you're services again.

Friday night at 9 p.m. on CBC's The Fifth Estate, there will be a new episode about who's killing the Rizzutos. People outside Canada will not be able to view this online. Would you be able to share this doc with us?

Also, I would like to have the National Geographic Underworld episodes, particulary the ones about Montreal, Las Vegas, the Luccheses, Chicago and Philadelphia. I've already seen them, but I would very like to have them in my collection.

To show my appreciation I have drawn a picture for you:

I would like to watch it too, but I am not able to view it either. I just tried "The death of the don" here http://www.cbc.ca/fifth/2010-2011/deathofthedon/ and it doesn't work, so the next episode probably won't work either. I hope somebody in Canada records and uploads it.

I have rips of different sizes between about 300 and 500 mb, it's not HD, but the quality is better than on Youtube. Unfortunately, I don't have a good rip of "Manhattan mob rampage". I initially watched it on Youtube, only later I discovered this site http://forums.thathustle.com/showthread.php?p=919080 from which I downloaded the rest. When I decided to download this episode as well, it has already been deleted.
By the way, I have 2 versions of the episode about Las Vegas: the video is the same, but the narrators are different and say different things.

One is the "Inside" version, the other "Underworld". I would like to have the Underworld version. It seems like these episodes uploaded by that forum have been removed. I would like to have the best versions you have. smile

I hope these are the versions you need. In fact, I was somewhat confused when I found 2 versions for almost each documentary but, apart from the Las Vegas one, in each case both versions tell the same things even though there are different narrating voices. So I just deleted one of the doubles for each one, leaving both only for the Las Vegas version which does not only have different narrators, but also says different things. Don’t know, maybe I should have kept both.
I haven’t uploaded “Manhattan mob rampage” because it’s the same bad quality version that is already on Youtube.
However, do you need the other episodes as well (San Francisco, London etc)?

I also have sent a message to a user from this site http://www.theempire.bz/main.php who has recently been uploading The fifth estate and asked him to record and upload the tomorrow’s episode about the mafia war. I hope he reads it in time.

Hi. First off - great site. I'm glad I found it.

I'm wondering where I could find any lectures or discussions about the US Mafia online. Audio only. I'm pretty removed from civilisation (well, decent broadband anyway) where I am and on a very expensive pre-paid set-up so downloading video isn't really worth the effort for me. I can, however, convert youtube videos to audio on the net and then download them, so any of those that could be listened to without losing much from not seeing the pictures could be useful too.

Thanks and apologies if this is the wrong thread for it.

Re: Documentaries about organized crime - 02/02/12 12:41 AM

Just watched the documentary “Who’s killing the Rizzutos?” (didn’t have the mood to watch it before) and there are 2 things that are really shameful in my opinion:

1) Montagna wasn’t imprisoned in the USA, but just deported to Canada. So the American authorities just throw their own dirt at the others’ territory instead of make a good cleaning themselves and put the dirt where it belongs – in the refuse bin. Instead, they make another country solve THEIR problems.

2) While Montagna was extorting money and whacking everybody, the authorities didn’t lift a finger, but when Desjardins reacted, he got immediately arrested. I know he is a mobster too and does belong in the jail, but still what the authorities did seems kind of hypocritical to me.

Thanks for the list, there are some titles I never knew about, like the one about the Serbian mobster or the Bill Hanhardt one. Unfortunately, I don't know how to make avi and mp4 files and I don't have the documentary about Joey Lombardo, I am searching for it too.
But do you have the episodes about Frank Lucas, Nicky Barnes and Mickey Cohen from the same series?
I am also searching for the series "MobStars TV", the one that includes "The Lufthansa heist" that you listed. On youtube there are only the episodes about John Gotti, Meyer Lansky, and the DeMeo crew.

Unfortunately, there is a problem. I tried to make an image copy from the DVD, but the copy just doesn't work. Maybe the DVD is protected somehow. I didn't expect this problem as I have already managed to make copies from other dvds. I will continue to try, if I succeed I will upload it.
However, don't worry about bothering me, if you want any other documentary just ask me, there will be no problem with those that I have as avi files. As for those on dvds I don't know, I haven't yet tried them all.

I don't really know... When I try to download, there isn't any problem and I am not even logged in. Maybe you can try to restart the computer or try to download it later, maybe there are some problems on rapidshare. If it keeps saying "unable to download", maybe I can upload it somewhere else.

Hello everyone. First time poster long time reader. Has anyone ever seen the full Dominick Montiglion Documentary?? Its called Dark Visions. You can watch the first ten min on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xpn-rG-EHg I'm not sure where to buy it but if someone has it and can upload it that would be great. Hopefully it can offer some new info/stories about the Demeo crew /Nino Gaggi.

Re: Documentaries about organized crime - 04/26/12 10:03 PM

silent,
First do a google search for the program WinRAR (unless you already have this).. downloand the latest version (its free). Then download the raphid share file (just click the link and hit download, if you do it at a slow speed its free, faster speeds require a membership),a window will come up with a button that says extract to. hightlight the file, hit extract, and save it to your computer. THen open in Itunes or another program. Unfortunatley though some of the rapidshare files have been deleted.. Maybe people can redo them?

Re: Documentaries about organized crime - 06/14/12 11:55 PM

Bad news: I lost my entire collection of organized crime documentaries because the hard disk which it was on died for some unknown reason, so I have either to gather the documentaries again one by one or to wait for a couple of months until my family's financial problems are over and we can pay for restoring the hard disk. When it's restored, I will upload everything again.
It’s really bad, I haven’t yet watched some of the documentaries myself and some of them are very hard to find now.

http://press.discovery.com/us/dsc/press-releases/2012/mobster-confessions-1971-1971/

Discovery Channel has announced a new reality television series, Mobster Confessions. Fans will get to see Mafia informants come out of hiding and listen to their shocking stories in detail. Meanwhile, cinematic re-creations will illustrate the circumstances of what are bound to be extraordinary testimonies about Mafia life and crime.

Mobster Confessions is scheduled as a six-part series on the Discovery Channel. The Mafia members who are set to come forward on the show are said to be sharing first-hand testimonies of their own personal experiences among some of the nation’s most notorious underground families. Illegal operations and dealings with the Mafia eventually led to the arrests of the men involved, and with re-enactments and compelling interviews, viewers will get a close-up, behind-the-scenes look at what life in the Mafia is really like in these six episodes.

According to the Discovery Channel, the following are featured in Mobster Confessions:

Andrew DiDonato: A New York street thug is seduced by the power and protection of the Gambino crime family. When the family turns on him, he must choose between being hunted by the mob or working with authorities to bring them down.
John Veasey: A troubled teen turned hitman kills for the Philadelphia mob but is later targeted by his own Mafia family. After surviving an attempted hit, he testifies against the men he once swore to protect.
Frank Cullotta: The riches of a glittering life in Las Vegas tempt a man to do anything, even kill, for the Chicago Outfit. His world is turned upside down when an FBI sting reaches out to warn him that he’s about to be whacked by his own Mafia family.
Frank Calabrese Jr.: A son, desperate to escape the grip of his brutal Mafia father, faces a difficult decision: turn on his dad or be forced to continue a life of crime.
Bill Cutolo Jr.: A son who idolizes his mobster father seeks revenge on his Mafia friends when his dad goes missing.
“Big Ron” Previte: A crooked cop turned mob informant whose only motivation is money plays both sides, risking his life to help dismantle the Philadelphia mob.
Mobster Confessions is scheduled to premiere on June 25 at 9 p.m. on the Discovery Channel.

Fortunately, the hard disk with my collection of documentaries has been restored, so if you want I can upload the documentaries again. Just ask which one do you want.

Re: Documentaries about organized crime - 08/03/12 11:10 PM

Found a couple of interesting documentaries on youtube, one about the mafia war that took place contemporarily in different cities in the province of Agrigento at the beginning of the 90s,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5WwA9Sed3M

the other is an interview with Luciano Leggio (the boss of Corleone before Totò Riina).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWykjfnWNnw&feature=relmfu

They are in Italian though, but I could make subtitles in English if you want. I already started, just wanted to be sure if you are interested.

While doing some research on Google. Looking up anything I could find on 1920s era Cleveland Gangster Salvatore "Black Sam" Todaro who was murdered in 1929. I managed to find the details about this documentary The Sugar Wars: The Life Story Of Angelo Lonardo the documentary was made in 2012, and according to the IMDb website its currently in post-production. The link I've included above is for the documentary trailer. Its under a minute long but from what I can tell it looks really interesting.

A documentary about the "29th complex gang" active in the Region of Tatarstan in Russia. The videos are in Russian, but you can turn English subtitles on. Sorry if there are mistakes, English isn't my first language.
