Scara-Mix - 12/31/11 03:13 PM
This is a mobbed up company once run by one of Paul Castellanos sons, it still might be. So the other day I'm watching the movie Easy Money, the one with Joe Pesci and Rodney Dangerfield. In one scene Pesci and Dangerfield are driving around drunk and high out of their mind after a long night of gambling, when they almost crash into a huge cement mixer truck, a Scara-Mix truck to my surprise. I wonder if the mafia had their tentacles all over this movie or just a coincidence?

Scara-mix was run by Phillip Castellano, son of Big Paul.
Supposedly, after Gotti and Sammy Gravano had Big Paul whacked, they made Phillip Castellano pay tribute to them somewhere between $10,000 and $25,000 a month.

Wow. The reason I say it was probably not a coincidence is because you always hear about local unions and such holding up movie production in cities and neighborhoods. I recently heard of of films like "Saturday Night Fever" and "Rocky" having to to take care of certain people in order to start and or continue filming. I'm sure when the producers of "Easy Money" needed a mixer truck somebody knew a guy...

Scara was huge back then, you couldn't turn your head w/out seeing their trucks, so it may have been a coincidence. If anything they got free advertising.
Anywho, they're in the toilet now with the rest of the economy.
I remember back in 2006, we did the demolition for one of those Extreme Makeover shows. What a huge pain in the ass. My husband thought he was going to get free advertising, but first thing the producers did was put black tape over every single name. Shit, even on a Komatsu machine, they wouldn't allow the name to be shown.
That was a disaster. An expensive disaster at that.
So, if anything, Scara should have been thankful for any free advertising. lol

Perhaps they are not as huge, financial wise, as they once were. But I wouldn't say that they are actually in "the toilet." They are still a fairly profitable company. They also run and operate another concrete company called American Ready Mix.

As far as they're concerned they're in the toilet. When you consider the business they used to have compared to now, they are just getting by. They're not making profits these days. They owe money to everybody and their mother.
Yes, I know all about Ready Mix as well.
I love things like that. It's like you are in on an "inside joke." Brilliant.

Here's another joke for ya. A while back, they rented a machine from us for 10K/month for 3 months and couldn't pay. Long story short, after 2 months, my husband went in the middle of the night to the job site where they were using it and took it back.

I would then report it stolen and collect the insurance $$$... allegedly, of course!
