Marcello Crime Family Chart - 10/06/11 11:24 AM

First off, I want to thank everyone that puts together these crime family charts. I love the ones with pictures attached. It's very cool to put names to faces. There have been so many good ones, but I haven't seen any on the New Orleans Crime Family. Is there a Marcello Crime family still in existence? Sorry, I'm new to the board so if there was one I missed it in the archives.

The LCN in New Orleans is gone. They were basically finished by the 1990's. Marcello had always kept the numbers small, with the power revolving around him and his immediate family. Some of the guys left afterward were busted with the Gambino and Genovese families in a video gambling case a few years later but that's it.

Much obliged Ivy. It seems that that city would be a prime location for O.C. Especially post Katrina with all the rebuiliding construction jobs.

As I mentioned in another thread, it's not so much about whether there's money to be made in a certain area. It's whether the mob has the resources to take advantage of it. Even though it's relatively close to Florida, where there's still quite a bit of mob activity, New Orleans is pretty much off the mob radar now.

I have to agree with Ivy on NO. One of the big problems with the smaller families like Milwakee, KC, St Louis, New Orleans is that they were familys built around the boss, the family was smaller in size and revolved around the bosses immediate family, and the authority of the family is usually maintained in the boss, he has the connections. When the boss dies a lot of the resources the family has dies with the boss. When Marcello died, the son did not have the resources to really keep it going and the crew either dies off or goes someware else. Just my opinion.

Marcello's sons had no reason too either. Their father left them plenty of money and legit property. Millions of dollars worth.

Sammy Gravano talked about how, when the Gambinos and Genovese were looking to get into the video poker business down there back in the early 1990's, they were told there would be no problems. That the Marcellos were "finished" and didn't mean anything there anymore. And that was 20 years ago now.

With the millions in property and other assets Marcello left to his sons, it would have been a crime of stupidity for them to plunge back into the life.
