Frank Piccolo - 10/05/11 12:25 PM

Does anyone know of any information on Frank Piccolo? I know what I've read on Wikipedia but not much else. He was a capo for the Gambinos in Connecticut and was ordered killed by Castellano for some dispute with another crime family. Any help, photographs of him, would be greatly appreciated!

Profile: Hon. Alan H. Nevas
Judge Alan H. Nevas is retiring from the bench after 23 years. Before his nomination to the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut in 1985, Nevas was the United States Attorney for Connecticut where he targeted the Mafia:

He . . . targeted organized crime after a slew of gang-related murders in Fairfield County, including the assassination of Frank Piccolo, a Gambino crime family captain on Bridgeport's busy Main Street on a Saturday afternoon. FBI plants, court-authorized wiretaps and cooperating witnesses led to indictments of Francis and Gus Curcio, Salvador Basso and Vincent Pollina, all affiliated with the Genovese crime family; Thomas DeBrizzi, who succeeded Piccolo as the Gambino head, and others.

This story has gotten a lot of press in Connecticut over the years.

It was a bad move by Castellano. By allowing another family to take out his own captain, it made him look like a sellout to his own soldiers. Gotti was able to use this as one of his selling points a few years later when he was shopping around the idea of taking Paul out.

Tommy Debrizzi took over for Piccolo, and was eventually murdered himself. Tony Megale was made a short time after Debrizzi's murder. I wonder what happened there? whistle

Do you know why Tommy Debrtizzi was murdered? Did it have anything to do with Piccolo? I never understood why Castellano did that - I know $$$ figured in, but did Piccolo really do anything wrong that warranted a hit squad to gun him down outside a bagel joint?

Debrizzi had the audacity to complain about making the trip from Connecticut to the Ravenite every Tuesday night. John Gotti didn't like that. So John Gotti made Debrizzi dead.

Was up in CT recently and snapped a photo of the corner where Frank was executed. I'll try to post it here.

Attached is the corner. There used to be a Bagel King and a pay phone he was on when he was shot and killed.

Good stuff Jimmy, as in work --- not in the fact that a man was murdered at the spot in the photo.

Cool.

Yeah bad move by Paul. Still think the Debrizzi hit was unwarranted. John payed for stuff like that in the end.
