Mexican authorities have announced the death of a man believed to be the No. 2 two leader in the Gulf Cartel.

Samuel Flores Borrego, 39, also known as “Metro 3,” was gunned down alongside a high-ranking police official from Diaz Ordaz known as Eloy Lerma Garcia, according to a statement from the Tamaulipas Attorney General’s Office.

Diaz Ordaz is across the border from Sullivan City.

The bodies of the two men were found early Friday inside a Ford Lobo pickup truck along the Monterrey-Reynosa highway, about 20 miles south of Reynosa, the attorney general’s office stated.

The Reynosa city morgue was under heavy guard Friday morning after Borrego’s body was taken there, according to sources with firsthand knowledge of criminal activity.

U.S. authorities have identified Borrego as a high-ranking member of the Gulf Cartel and had offered a $5 million reward for his capture.

Word on the street say is that he was on borrowed time and that Diablo's "Escorpiones" went to hunt him down, Metro 3 was responsible for starting the war with Los Zetas, lost too many drug shipments and responsible for loosing to many men especially R1's men. The new guy that replaced him is Mario Ramirez Trevino aka "X20" or "Mario Pelon".

So with the end of Metro 3, does this mean the Gulf Cartel vs Los Zetas war is over? Since Metro 3 was in charge of the current war versus them since he executed Concord 3, and ever since then Los Zetas wanted the Gulf Cartel to turn him in or kill him.

Metro 3 has been repeatedly stated by different sources that he was found with his pants down which means betrayal, El Negro his brother has been said to be a snitch since he got captured months ago. There is rumors going around that the Gulf Cartel is having a meeting, possible alliance or ending the war with Los Zetas?

Is El Coss still in charge of the Gulf cartel?

Yes, he is the leader of the Gulf Cartel. El Coss is the one that supposedly ordered to have Metro 3 killed.

Isn't the gulf cartel loosely aligned with Chapo? How will that figure into the possible gulf cartel Zetas war cooling down?

Well the whole reason the Zetas and Gulf Cartel split was because Metro 3 killed Concord 3, so Los Zetas told the Gulf Cartel to turn in Metro 3 to them or kill him and back then the Gulf Cartel refused so they went to war. Metro 3 is also rumored to be accused by his own members to be responsible of some Gulf Cartel members being captured and most recently the capture of R2 which is the brother of R1. Plus "El Negro" which is Metro's 3 brother has been known to have been snitching since he got captured months ago, I also heard El Coss sent out a hit on his El Negro and in revenge Metro 3 snitched on R2. I don't think the Gulf Cartel and Sinaloa Cartel have an alliance but more of a seize fire/ignore each other/part ways relationship.

What are your thoughts Mooney about Metro 3 being killed by his own organization?

More than anything i want to see what happens next, what happens with the gulf cartel/zetas war. It's going to be hard to split up turf, especially that turf.... without someone getting pissed.

There are a lot of rumors going around about the death of Metro 3, some say that he wanted to make a deal with Lazcano(Los Zetas) other say he was snitching but who really knows why did they killed him. Talking about the war is seems to have been dieing down somewhat in Mexico compared to 2010.

That would be a definite plausible scenario... M3 reaching out to Lazcano and then Lazcano double crossing him and reaching out to El coss....

I'm sure the Zetas still harbored ill feelings towards M3 for what he did previously but maybe they let on that they could let by gones be by gones and set a trap...

The zetas would solve two problems, Killing M3 and ending the war, despite The zetas power in numbers the war is hurting business.

Just a theory...but like you said, who the hell knows?

Have you seen the "Mamito" interview? It seems there were no hard feelings about Metro 3 killing Concord 3, Mamito didn't even mention that. He did mention that the Gulf Cartel aligned with Sinalao Cartel and La Familia group which set the war according to Mamito. I honestly think Los Zetas is the only group in Mexico that no cartel/criminal group wants align/or make allies with(except Beltran Leyvas) but they keep expanding and keep getting stronger, they are also the most feared and that what makes one of the strongest criminal group in Mexico.

LOL No that was Diego from the Vicente Carrillo group but I'm not sure if he flipped when he got captured though it wouldn't surprise me if he did. He was responsible fro 1500 homicides and the car bombings in Ciudad Juarez......This guy right?

Aha. Yep, thats the guy HermitKermit. I guess I just assumed he'd flipped since he seemed to be giving such a lengthy and dtailed statement.
