Which Mobster has the Highest Personal body count? - 08/19/11 08:01 AM

who is the most murderous mobster in American history in your opinion? I don't mean ordering murders I mean personally killing. Many names come to mind, Roy DeMeo, Albert Anastasia, Casso, Scarpa and then you have non-Italian guys like Murder Inc Jewish gangsters, Lepke, Schultz, Strauss etc. There's guys from Chicago under Capone also could be number 1, or it could be a hispanic guy etc etc. What do you think?

Well if you mean participating in murder i would say demeo. demeo usually did murders along with others so i'm not sure if you mean mobsters who kill individually or not.

Re: Which Mobster has the Highest Personal body co - 08/19/11 01:20 PM

I mean that he himself was the murderer, not ordering it, planning it etc. I think it could likely be someone from early 20th century, when it was harder to catch murderers.

Re: Which Mobster has the Highest Personal body co - 08/19/11 04:29 PM

This is actually a good question. You have to seperate those who ordered or help plan the murders, and the actual executioner. DeMeo killed quite a few with his own hands. Greg Scarpa personally killed a half dozen people we actually know of. A lot of people around Jimmy Burke were killed, but I don't know how often he was doing the killing.

Re: Which Mobster has the Highest Personal body co - 08/19/11 04:35 PM

Yeah IMO it could be someone from murder inc, its insane the numbers they talk about, 900+ murders, it could very well be a non-Italian, some Jewish guys were killing a lot for the corporation.

Re: Which Mobster has the Highest Personal body co - 08/19/11 04:58 PM

Tommy Pitera killed many, many people. Just as an example that should suggest he killed more than we know of - he was at a crew member's apartment one day, and the crew member's girlfriend was present as well. During the time hanging out, he assassinated the man's girlfriend, with no warning and absolutely no motive. He just did it. Just like that. Lepke Buchalter was really ridiculous. I believe Joe Valachi when he says Lepke and Gurrah Shapiro killed for their own gang, not for The Commission. Lucky Luciano was never violent enough to order really any of those murders.

Machine Gun Jack McGurn might be up there, and later, Chuckie Nicoletti. Ignazio Saietta (basis of Don Fanucci) never had much of his own gang when he was independent, yet frequently committing 'maintenance murders' just to keep the town terrified. He's got to be way up there.

You gotta think with a name like "lord high executioner" Anastasia did many.

back when Sonny Franzese was in his heyday the FBI personally suspected him of being involved in around 50 murders. Mikey mentions it in his book.

Barrett are you referring to Frank Gangi and Phyllis Burdi as the crew members apartment Pitera went in and executed his girlfriend?

Re: Which Mobster has the Highest Personal body co - 08/19/11 08:40 PM

Ya if he means Phyllis Burdi then there was definetly motive. Tommy blamed Phyllis for his girlfriend dying from an overdose

Re: Which Mobster has the Highest Personal body co - 08/19/11 08:51 PM

Exactly... I don't recall them being boyfriend/girlfriend(Burdi & Gangi) just having sex for 2 days. I just wanted to clarify this because, I never heard of Tommy just executing someones girlfriend for no reason.

Re: Which Mobster has the Highest Personal body count? - 08/19/11 11:12 PM

I dont know how these names couldnt be at the top if you are talking about actually doing the hit. If history is correct then these guys are at the top of the list we are speaking of: (everyone has already said these, just adding a few of my own)

Roy Demao
Tommy Karate
Jimmy Burke
Lefty Ruggerio "I got 26 hits under my belt"
Scarpa SR
Charlie Carnegila
tony Spilatro
Bobby Borrelio
Anthony Capo (admitted to around 15 murders as the trigger man I think for the decavalcantes, not sure though, could be wrong)
Tommy Desimone
Frank Sheehan
Salvie testa

Those are the names I can think of as "trigger men" but im sure im off base on a few. Like Gravano, he says he only pulled the trigger once but pled to 19 murders as the set up guy, so who freakin knows

how could we forget about that liar?

My opinion is that its either Roy DeMeo or Jimmy Burke.
Flip a coin.
Both guys have many murders "credited" to them and those are just the ones we know about!

Re: Which Mobster has the Highest Personal body count? - 08/21/11 02:38 AM

There should be a separate category for 'serial killers masquerading as mobsters'. I'm sure a few of these guys could be classified that way.

Re: Which Mobster has the Highest Personal body count? - 08/21/11 10:40 AM

Id have to say, as far as personally undertaking (and some have been mentioned);
Mad Sam, "Buster from Chicago", some of the guys from the old Outfit crew that was known by some as the Wild Bunch.

Ignazio Saietta, Lepke Buchalter, Roy DeMeo, Greg Scarpa, Tommy Pitera, Gaspipe Casso.

Not American but Escobar was a gangster known to have committed a number of murders.

Re: Which Mobster has the Highest Personal body count? - 08/21/11 11:22 AM

So far Roy DeMeo seems to be the popular choice for the most murderous guy...
If were talking about ordering whackings there's many candidates, although he probably didn't personally order all of them, under Castellano's reign an insane amount of people were killed in the name of the Gambino family.
You had DeMeo's crew of course, Gravano, Dellacroce etc etc many many killers, were talking in the hundreds probably, between the years 1976-1985.

Sammy the bull gravano killed about 19 people, incluse the wife'brother, and Thomas Pitera was suspected by law enforcement of as many as 60 murders.

Re: Which Mobster has the Highest Personal body count? - 08/21/11 08:28 PM

Gravano ADMITTED to 19 murders but the real count was no doubt higher.
DeMeo seems to be the number 1 contender so far

Guys as we all know Greg DePalma was in Gaggi's crew. He supposedly got his button in 1977. Does anybody know who he wacked, since he was in Gaggi's violent crew he must have participated in some of the above, no?

not necessarily. I dont know a whole lot about Greg - didn't even know he came up in Gaggi's crew!(never read Making Jack Falcone) but if Gaggi had a team of heavy hitters at his disposal with a tried and true method theres no need to involve someone like Greg in shit like that. Greg could have been more of an earner/moneyman/schemer than a killer. A lot of guys, even some associated with violent crews, have never killed

That list Ivy posted above is great. Imagine what a favor Andrei Katz would have done to the world if that ambush on "Chris" Rosenberg was successful? One could only imagine. The murders that hit me the hardest on that list are the Vincent Guvanara, Nicky Guido, and that poor 18 year old traveling salesman. Jesus...

Back in the 1930's, the Brooklyn DA believed Murder Inc. to be responsible for about 1000 deaths, coast to coast. Others put the estimate between 400 to 700.

Abe Reles was able to recount about 80 plus murders. You had members like Pittsburgh Phil, "Happy" Maione and "Blue Jaw" Magoon etc. who were responsible for quite a few murders. They were not members of Cosa Nostra, but were every bit as ruthless. Personally I believe the Roy Demeo crew was meant to emulate the Murder Inc. gang.

Yeah I'm with you man, I really think there's a good chance it could be a Murder Inc guy, possibly one of the Jewish hit guys. It doesn't have to be an Italian...

Certainly the mobster who killed more people is Giovanni Brusca, here is his testimony:
''I killed Giovanni Falcone. But it was not the first time I had already used the car bomb to kill the judge Rocco Chinnici, and the men of his escort. They are responsible for the kidnapping and death of the young Giuseppe Di Matteo, who was thirteen years old when he was kidnapped and fifteen when he was murdered. I personally ordered and committed murders over 150 . Even today I can not remember them all, one by one, the names of those I killed. Many more than a hundred, certainly less than two hundred. "

Lo Scannacristiani (spl?) they called the guy, "the killer of christians". He definitely had a lot of hits notched up, and some real messed up ones, too.
Creepy, pudgy and arrested with spaghetti stains on his face and shirt before he flipped, that was the pig that murdered Giovanni Falcone (r.i.p)

He's gotta be up there in terms of number, eh Furio? I think Nicky was talking about mobsters that operated in the US though. Still, I said Escobar, and I reckon Brusca had more hits to his name then him.

Frank Calabrese from the Chicago Outfit seems to have been a guy who killed a good deal of people, often in a very brutal manner. I watched "I Married a Mobster" last weekend, the one about Greg Scarpa, he supposedly killed a cab driver who tried to rape his daughter. Scarpa's daughter is still pretty hot, I was shocked to find out she is 42, and has four kids!

You're right Gerry. Im re-reading "Family Secrets" and between Frank and his brother Nick there's a fair few bodies. Some of those Outfit guys could fill a cemetery by themselves, to steal a quote from Sicilian boss Matteo Messina Dennaro.

This guy makes Roy DeMeo seem like choirboy. Tortured a 13 year old and killed him, than put him in acid? Hard to believe the Italian police agreed to use him as a cooperator. I think the us would even allow this.

Agreed. It's incredibly amoral in itself. But when you think of the lives that could be saved with the testimony of someone high ranking within the Sicilian Mafia, which has its hooks in the government itself - you have to make a deal with the devil. The honest authorities in Italy are heroes. And nobody would blame them if they somehow screwed Brusca over.

Yep, the Calabrese brothers are some vicious dudes. Not only were they stone cold killers, they were also brutal in the way they killed. Frank Calabrese liked to strangle his victims, then slit their throat from ear to ear, while most mafia guys like to just use the gun.

Frank Sheeran is probably the guy with the highest body count, if you're counting the guys he killed in the war in addition to his hits. In a particular instance he claims he did 3 sepparate hits in the span of a day. He said in his book he flew to Puerto Rico and 'did what he had to do' on two separate matters, then flew back to Chicago and did another one. A busy man.lol

A few guys who haven't been mentioned:
-Lefty Ruggiero(27)

'Trigger' Lee Burke was said to have been a heavy hitter on the west side back in the 50's before he was said to have went laughing to the chair in Sing Sing sometime in the 50's so legend has it. His body count was very high.

Mad Dog Joe Sullivan notched up at least 30 hits according to his own accounts. Once you get to 30-35 you stop counting he says.

I'd say the mob's hired trigger men would have to have notched some of the highest body counts. That's whhat they're payed for, that's what they do. The mob ruled through fear. It was guys lke these that gave the mob the fear it thrived on.

Re: Which Mobster has the Highest Personal body count? - 09/03/14 06:01 AM

I dont know about the us mobsters but im pretty sure orgsnized crime members from Colombia,Italy and Mexico take the spot.

Since people mentioned Escobar. Then I agree with you that he had more hits to his name than he actually killing people. Though Im pretty sure he does more body counts than your average crime boss but not enough to consider him a monster. He was more like Osiel Cardenas(Gulf Cartel boss), he killed and ordering killing to consolidate his power in the U.S. He still runs the Gulf Cartel behind max security prison in Colorado through his attorneys/laeyers and family members. He is the reason the Gulf Cartel are whacking the people that arent following the rules. But before I go into details and derail this thread. Lets leave it for another day. Hmm There are a quite few people that are truly monsters. The Zetas being the most disgusting, there are many myths rumors and conspiracies surrounding former Los Zetad leader Z-40 or going by his real name Miguel Angel Trevino. He has or is responsible for at least 300 innocent people, the 78 migrants of San Fernando(but regional boss 'Ardilla", and others are complicit. But there is a heavily fact that has been heavily supressed by both the media and the government. It all started in the state of Cohuila where one of his subordinates didnt hand 5 million dollars that belong to Z-40 but the guy ran away with the money and to never see Z-40 again to dissapear into the 112,000 million citizen Mexicans. But he forgot that he had family and friends in Cohuila. So in response Z-40 rounded up 80 families totaling 300 people and killed them all almost overnight. I think it was 80 convoy of trucks rounded up the family and friends in a single night and disappear them in the desert almost overnight. Imagine that. Getting all your family.members, friends and everybody you knew shot dead because you stole 5 million from your boss. A human life is worthless(in a good way) but he went overboard with that. And its unfair the story was heavily suppressed and get that monkey away with war crimes. Shame on the Mexican government, the DEA and international press for not publishing that story because of.politic relationships between Mexico and U.S. I'm hoping there is a mounted effort to make this story international and gain internatiol coverage. I dont think people should get away with this stuff no matter the consequences. I just had to get out of my system. I do truly believe Z 40 was the most evil gangster in modern day crime.

I respect gangsters like Tony Tormenta and his security team the Escorpiones with their bravado spirit. His whole security team died fighting the Marines to show how real gangsters should go down. Tony Tormenta and his crew were real bravado men and he went like a real G. Leaving the inocent alone and focusing on drug trafficking. The newer generation of Golfos dont respect the innocents and government,I dlo think there should be a form of respect to the government. About 2 months ago 36 Mexican soldiers were killed in an ambush near Mante-Reynosa highway by Gulf Cartel members(another story heavily suppressed by the Mexican government) and I think it.was the last straw that begin with the internal whackings off the newer generation Golfo.members that dont respect the old ways of.doing things. There is no reason to kill 36 soldiers trying to make.the.streets safer. There is a huge internal war going on in the Gulf Cartel and hopefully the good guys win and are winning.

Hmmm i keep getting.off track but there was an article back that 3.sicarios/gunmen had killed 200 people. There was a gunmen from CJNG that confessed that he personally killed 78 people. But from known drug bosses I think "Ardilla", "Coyote" from Zetas have personaly killed dozens. Also that monster Z-40, I think he said that he couldnt go.to sleep without killing something. I think he started with killing horses then he moved on to killing people. I think he would order his men to kidnap people so he could torture them. What a sick bastard.

Back to the question. Other countries cartels and organizations can't count not even in the same league. I def think that Vito Anastasia got there hands dirty as young guys and also ordered a bunch more when they became powerful. Galante as well but I def think that Roy demeo was personally involved in as many homicides as Gary ridgeway randy kraft or Ted bundy which makes him one of the most prolific serial killers of his day

of course demeo had a high bodycount, if you believe klukinski {he says he killed a hundred} then he would take the cake.however many of his hits are disputed. many on this site regard him as little more than a bragger. I will stand with galentes count as 60.

Border Protector, I have an EXTREMELY GRAPHIC video that begins by showing the four bound women kneeling in a field in front of their heavily armed captors. Surrounded by 13 masked men, one woman was asked what her relation to a rival gang was in which she replied that her brother was a member.
After just a few more short moments, four members of the cartel stepped forward and slit the women’s throats and beheaded them in a variety of ways from a hunting knife, to a machete and even an axe.
Los Zetas’s date back to 1999, when commandos of the Mexican Army’s elite forces deserted and took up employment with the drug-trafficking Gulf Cartel.
In February 2010, Los Zetas broke away from the Gulf Cartel to branch out on their own, and their connections with the Mexican military soon made them the pre-eminent criminal organization in their country—and, as the Mexican invasion of America has continued, into the USA as well.
Los Zetas are now Mexico’s largest drug cartel and are based in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, directly across the border from Laredo, Texas.

I am not posting the video because it is quite graphic and disturbing.

FUTURE RELEASES

THE WESTIES

In the 80s tensions rose as a new leader, Jimmy Coonan waged a war against all who challenged him to take control of New York City’s Westside Irish Mafia. With Jimmy Coonan now boss and the erratic Mickey Featherstone his chief enforcer, Coonan forges a profitable alliance with the all powerful Italian mob which many Irish view as selling out his own to the Italians – Meanwhile a rabidly ambitious U.S. Attorney (and future mayor) obsessed with taking them down declares Coonan and The Westies Public Enemy #1. In Hell’s Kitchen it’s best to keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

But everythings relative. Demeo crew were a particulary homicidal bunch. For the times. You get a crew today who has 10 hits under its belt and relatively speaking to todays enviroment thats big.
But Lefty Ruggerio himself had 22-24 alone 30yrs back and wasnt considered THE most crazy/hard guy on the streets. By a long shot.

So sure, the Demeo crew for their time, had a high count.

But in terms of simple numbers?

1920's and 30's SHIT all over Demeo.

Murder in 1920 was A DIFFERENT thing to 1981.

I seem to remember that Capeci once quoted a book ( East side West side, I believe it was called) which proved that the number of hits for Murder Inc. were hugely inflated. Still, for todays standards, as Sonnyblackstein wrote, the numbers would be huge. But it's hard to give a good number for those old guys.
Would Nicoletti and/or Alderisio have a shot at the title? And how would it compare to, for instance, Bugsy Siegel who was a stone killer in his younger days? (anyone have any figures about him? I just know some stories which might as well by mythical.)

Think casso admitted to. 37 murder conspiracy s. On top of taking over Roy demeo crew after they killed him. Did casso admit to the feds he supervised the hit on demeo that be a cool fact. But probably demeo or jimmy coon an or jimmy Burke for gangsters after the books were open in the 70 tys. Steve flemmi in Boston or martorano are serial killers. Be tter question goe stste by state. Read that guy Richie the boot killed a lot or would dispose of bodies

I still believe that the old timers from Brooklyn like Albert Anastasia, the Luciano/Genovese crew and the "Murder Inc" fellas clipped more people than any other mobsters. I wouldn't doubt if they took out a couple witnesses who got in their way while they were in route to clip a guy.

Back in the prohibition era it would be a cinch to clip five, ten guys at a time if they were trying to hijack your booze. The amount of bodies that add up are just too many to count. The old timers are the ones who would kill a civilian that would get in their way of making money. They had no qualms about it. These situations and killing civilians are something that rarely occurred in modern day times. That's why I just don't see the numbers with the De Meo crew and the other modern crews.

Yea Richie the Boot vs Longy Zwillman read about them. Most people don't know about their beef. Longy Zwillman wasalways in my Pops neighborhood with Moretti and the others in the Luciano crew.

There were also more killers back then. The question is which mobster had the highest personal body count. The problem is sometimes on guy would hold the victim down while another stabbed or strangled them. Does each hitter get half a kill? How about when two or more guys shoot one victim? In all honesty nobody would ever know because the guys who do tell-all books are full of shit and then there are others who keep their mouths shut and we'll never know how many they killed.

I didn't have to time to read everybody's answer on each page and everybody gave fantastic answers but did anybody mention Richard "ice man" Kuklinski? This son of a bitch was brutal but I heard that he exaggerated a little and took the credit for murders he didn't really commit. Also... Mad Sam destefano from Chicago was a absolute psychopath. Frankie Carbo from the lucchese's put in A lot of work during prohibition and in the murder inc era. And whitey bulger ...... He was a nut job !! No exaggeration there. He killed a lot of guys in the 70's and 80's alone. Gerry pappa that was in the Brooklyn faction of the genovese family was another nut with a gun!

I get what you are saying... that there were innocents killed in modern times but the numbers just don't add up to the numbers in the earlier years.
