Pete Chiodo (Fat Pete) - 08/02/11 01:56 AM

I was reading some posts on here that Fate Pete was a buffoon and a moron. I also read the Martinelli incident. Can someone tell me was Chiodo a good earner? Also if the opinion of a few states he was a moron how did this man make capo? What really made Casso have Chiodo killed? I am trying to find pics on him only see the one with him walking with Casso does anyone have a face shot of him?

Thanks

First: Fat Pete had been indicted in the famous "Windows" case. He chose to plead guilty, thinking he might be paroled in 10 years, but he was not prepared to rat out higher-ups. But that wasn't good enough for Gas and Vic, so they tried to whack him, and threatened his family. That tells me, moron or not, Fat Pete knew enough to scare Gas and Vic.

Second, here is a link to one other photo of him that I found:

Didn't Pete's sister get shot too? That shows you how paranoid vic and gas were. Although Gas was really calling the shots as he was using vic as a puppet

yup his sister was shot dead in broad daylight, that broke one of the main rules of Cosa Nostra, families are off limits.

Actually Nicky, luckily the poor girl (Patricia Capozzalo, a mother of three children with the misfortune of being Fat Pete's sister) wasn't killed. And it led to one of the more pathetic induction ceremonies on record...

Apparantly the shooter, one "Baldy" Mike Spinelli, used the attack to lobby for his induction into the Lucchese Family. When he and Gaspipe Casso found themselves doing time together in the same facility, in lieu of a proper room and picture of a Saint, Gaspipe took him into the bathroom and they burned toilet paper. And kissed. And Baldy Mike was now a made guy...the Toilet Bowl Mobster, as Jerry Capeci recalls in "Idiots Guide".

Your right mate she didn't die, my bad. I watched that "Manhattan Mob Rampage" and it gave me that impression.

She didn't die, the silencer broke off, and the bullets were flying all over the place. Chiodo was a big earner from what I've read, he was involved in union rackets, and heavily involved in waste managment. Casso had given him word from the crooked cops one of his trailers was being bugged and under camera surveillence, instead of dealing with the problem discreetly he had some big gorilla in a fedora and under shirt climb up polls and take down the cameras the next day while law enforcement was watching, after that he was supposedly no longer trusted by Casso.

Fat Pete Chiodo didn't die. IIRC he took 12 bullets and lived. The Doctors said that his morbid obesity actually saved his life.

Baldy Mike had the opportunity to plead out on that shooting with his plea bargain that covered all his past crimes when he was given 13 years. Vic and Casso would not let him as it was against mob rules to go after family,Gangland column. Patricia Capozzalo was shot in the neck and back. Mike was the wheel man. Dino Basiano was the triggerman. Mikes brother Robert drove the switch car. Calabrese and Cappello drove the crash car.

Didn't Cappello wind up dying in prison, and he was relatively young, in his 30's I think. Another Luchese who died at a young age in prison was Richard “The Toupee” Pagliarulo, who was a big hitter under Chiodo, then became a Capo of Chiodo's crew when Chiodo flipped.

Quote:
Who's The Dumb Son
Robert Spinelli, 36, (right) may not be so dumb after all. Certainly not as dumb as his IQ of 63 may indicate.
Robert drove the "switch car" during the attempted murder of Patricia Capozzalo, a sister of a turncoat mob capo in March 1992 -- a same month that was probably the lowpoint for the Mafia in this century because that's when Sammy Gravano became the first mob underboss to take the witness stand against his boss. Robert was certainly much smarter at his sentencing than older brother Michael (Baldy Mike) was at his.

Michael showed not even a trace of remorse at his sentencing and took the proceeding into the Twilight Zone when he said he hoped it would bring closure to both his family and the Capozzalo family, who had both suffered enough.

Robert told Brooklyn Federal Judge Raymond Dearie he was sorry he listened to his brother and drove Michael and trigger man Dino Basciano to safety after they ditched the stolen van used in the rubout attempt.

With tears streaming down his cheeks, Robert said he felt terrible at his trial last fall, when Capozzalo testified about being shot after dropping two of her children at school. "She reminded me of my mother," he said. "I wanted to cry. Please forgive me."

Dearie, who sentenced Michael to 19 years and seven months, gave Robert 10 years, four years less than the minimum called for by the sentencing guidelines because of his minimal role in the shooting and his diminished mental capacity.

Gravano was involved in 19 murders and got five years. Spinelli chauffeured his brother to safety after a botched hit and got 10 years. And Hollywood still glamorizes the mob. Go figure.

Pete is neither a moron or a buffoon. At one time we were very close. We spent a lot of time together and many a night at the "Home Bar"which he owned on the upper East Side. He was a gentleman and had more class than most people I've ever known. He was a giver..Did he do some "bad" things? Yes...but that was another side of the man that is typical of these goodfellas. There's basically two lives...one good and one bad.The good to those that knew him is what we have to go on...Was he a good earner? Yes he was...Did he deserve to get shot? NO..The boss was a paranoid dick head. Pete was not a rat... Shoot me 12 times and you're done..
Again, I just want to reiterate that Pete is a loyal stand up guy that did what he had to do. He was going to be the Godfather to my son....I miss him.

Re: Pete Chiodo (Fat Pete) - 08/13/13 04:16 PM

As per the book, Gaspipe...

When Fat Pete was recuperating in the hospital, the Lucchese's sent a hit man, dressed as a doctor to finish the job. He worked with a real nurse, who got him to within a couple of feet of Fat Pete. The FBI agents were ready for this and arrested the hit man.

Casso/Amuso sent word to Fat Pete that his elderly parents would be whacked if he flipped. Neither Casso/Amuso took responsibility for this cardinal sin, each one blaming the other for ordering the hit against a family member. So, Pete's parents, wife and children were quickly put in the witness protection program.

That left his sister...

I bet fat Pete sticks out like a sore thumb in witness protection program...by all accounts he was a stand up guy and very good earner..

Re: Pete Chiodo (Fat Pete) - 08/13/13 05:32 PM

Didnt Fat Pete once try to whack somebody but his automatic pistol jammed?
The intended victim asked him what the fuck he was playing at and Pete responded by claiming it was all a joke and that the gun wasn't loaded!

Did he ever fully recover from the assassination attempt on him? I seem to remember Raab saying in the Five Familes book that when he went to testify that he was partially paralyzed and in a wheelchair.

Re: Pete Chiodo (Fat Pete) - 08/14/13 02:31 AM

This was posted by HairyKnucles in May:

Joseph Martinelli (attempted murder):

Martinelli was the owner of a large concrete company who made substantial payoffs to the Lucchese Family. At one point when Martinelli fell behind, Amuso and Casso told Chiodo to make sure Martinelli resumed his payments. According to Chiodo, Martinelli told him that business was slow and that he was unable to make the payments. Several months later, after Martinelli failed to heed Chiodo's requests, Chiodo met with Amuso and Casso and asked them to be patient. Casso told Chiodo, "What's the matter with you? Don't you know we want this guy clipped?" When Chiodo responded that he was not aware of that plan, Casso said, "Maybe his partner will get the message after we clip him." Thereafter, Martinelli accompanied Chiodo on a trip to Staten Island, purportedly to attend a secret meeting with Amuso who was by this time a fugitive from the Windows case. Chiodo testified that he pulled over to the side of the road, "pulled out a pistol . . . leaned into the passenger door and . . . squeezed the trigger four or five times." The gun did not fire because, as Chiodo later discovered, the magazine was not properly installed. Chiodo explained the incident to Martinelli as a joke using a realistic toy gun. Martinelli accepted the explanation.
D'Arco confirmed that Amuso and Casso had assigned Chiodo to murder Martinelli. According to D'Arco, Amuso and Casso asked D'Arco to assist Chiodo in forcing Martinelli to resume his payments. He recounted several conversations in which Casso expressed his displeasure at Chiodo's inability to carry out the hit, and castigated Chiodo for his failure. Eventually, Martinelli met with D'Arco and agreed to pay Amuso and Casso $60,000 and to use companies affiliated with the Lucchese crime Family as his concrete and steel suppliers. No further attempts were made on Martinelli's life. However, Amuso never lifted the murder contract

what evidence do you have that Pete was unintelligent? Forget most (not all!!) of the idiotic posts here and read Pete's quotes in "The Brotherhoods" for starters, then come back here and restate your question.

Re: Pete Chiodo (Fat Pete) - 08/14/13 07:13 AM

Really. You are going to attack me from a post two years ago? I obviously read it back then and was just trying to find out if it was true and get more information on Chiodo. Why the fuck should I believe anything you have to say when you made no corroborating statements to support anything you had to say. As far as I'm concerned you might as well have made a statement right out of your ass, didn't justify it, and all to be nothing but a jerk off. Maybe the next time you have a point to make, you ought to make it like an intelligent man, not some asshole blowin' steam because he's bored... and maybe even dumb and trying to hide it? So, if you have something to say, maybe try rewording EVERYTHING you posted. You want respect? Then show it first.

CONOPIZZA,

I did your homework for you check out GerryLang post Re: Dumbest mob guy 04/22/11 at 2:05pm. He stated Chiodo was a buffoon. Next time attack the person who made the statement not the one questioning it!!!!!
