Gotti`s prison beef not a dent in his reputation

Gotti`s prison beef not a dent in his reputation - 06/26/11 07:24 PM

In my book gotti did his time like a man kept his mouth shut. This was a sucker punch from a young black male(who are some of the best boxers in the world) on a chain smoking old man not expecting it and is immediately broken up without conclusion it was a cheapshot. And john had stepped to him the day before like a man and he stood down. This black man had to spend the rest of his sentence in PC like a bitch.Prison is a different world and that photo was private and should not have been released(Gotti big lip) I see him in no less a gangster than before this was FBI taunting and desecrating him to let this get out into the press IMHO.

Even Al Capone was harassed by other inmates while he was in Alcatraz. Carmine Persico supposedly had orange juice thrown in his face a while back. Prison is it's own world. Walter Johnson, the black inmate that attacked Gotti, was your typical sociopath. Before Gotti could exact revenge, Johnson was paroled and ended up killing a cop.

gotti took his beating like a man and kept his mouth shut. i believe he told prison officials that he fell. imagine johnson getting out and telling his [EDIT]* friends that he punked john gotti. the only kinda punk move on gotti's behalf was with the aryan brotherhood.

*We don't use racist terms here, phatmatress.

He supposedly hired them to retaliate against Johnson. But Johnson was paroled before they did anything.

Does anyone know what Gotti said to the man?

I think people give Gotti way too much credit for keeping his mouth shut. In reality there are even weaker inmates that get their asses kicked on a regular basis and don't say a word. Also I don't think he lost the fight because he was suckerpunched. i think he made a smart ass comment and got his ass handed to him. Sure Gotti was a tough guy but he did fear people. I mean he was absolutely terrified of Roy demeo

I remember Bruce Mouw saying John used to be shaking like a leaf when he came to meet with Castellano. He definitely feared people. DeMeo is a good example, but I also think he may have feared guys like Danny Marino and Carmine Lombardozzi. These two guys held some serious power and were well connected with the other families.

Ya ur right. He feared castellano especially in the 70's and early 80's when the demeo crew was in full strength

gotti was used to controlling the day room tv from his cell and while a block worker (an inmate that cleans up the day room) changed the channel. gotti demanded to have it changed back and johnson who was the day worker refused gotti called him a ni**er or a spook. something racial. during rec time johnson punched gotti. i think just about anyone would have a good reason to be terrified of roy demeo.

From what I am reading he feared Anthony Gaspipe Casso...

Great book by the way.

The amount of money he talks about making are INSANE!!!!!

Millions from pot, coke, & H.
Millions from diamonds & robberies
Billions from gas
plus all the other money from standard mafia rackets (loansharking, extortion ect).

Rumor has it that he made fun of the guy for having to repeat the 5th grade when they were in elementary school together!

Yes, Gaspipe is a great book but I wouldnt be to quick to believe anything Casso or Phillip Carlo says.

in totally agreeing with you here! after reading some of carlo's work i stayed away from gaspipe. feared it would be another work of fiction as opposed to an auto biography!

The book has many inaccuracies and errors, and his attempts to humanize Casso and justify his deeds are...let's just say unpleasant, but I think the parts about his criminal exploits is accurate. It is known that Casso always made millions upon millions.

I would how much Schillenger and Robson (Aryan brotherhood) wanted off Gotti to do his dirty work in jail?

I wouldn't go as far as to say Gaspipe is a great book. Like Tyler said, it's filled with errors and inaccuracies and that is why I have a big problem with that book. It does mention a few interesting things, including the name of one FBI agent who supposedly was on Casso's payroll.

That book sucked.

Someone has to say it: Carlo was a hack as a writer. I feel bad he's dead because he seems to have been very courageous in his fight against ALS. But let's face it, he was never going to win a Pulitzer.

Haha... I guess I have a lot more books to read then.

I have only read Made Men, Underboss and Gaspipe and seeing as Sammy failed to mention he sold drugs and the Casso book says he sold drugs and he was later arrested for selling extacy I guess I believed Casso's version more!

But I see what you are saying about some of the fabrications. It did make Casso out to be like an angel who only did bad things when they were necessary for business.

if i remember correctly (i liked the book, i know it had its share of errors) but i think the book they just mentioned he had an fbi agent they never actually mentioned his name i believe i could be wrong...

Getting beaten up by a two-bit thug ( a black one at that) had to be extremely embarrassing for an ego-maniac like John Gotti. After all, Gotti was the Dapper Don, and this guy Johnson, well, he was a nobody. Gotti was a millionaire, a rogue who had his picture on the cover of Time magazine, a guy who had several books written about him. Johnson was probably a low-life street urchin living in roach infested crack houses. It was like the CEO of crime getting beaten up by a neighborhood tough!

Carlo's book about gaspipe was terrible but it did point out how crazy casso was, like when he shot the son of the guy who transported marijuana on ships from Florida for him and buried him alive for no good reason. The good rat about Burt Kaplan, who somehow ripped off casso and lived, is a pretty funny read. Alot of backhanded compliments about the mafia.

Re: Gotti`s prison beef not a dent in his reputation - 07/09/11 06:04 AM

I agree - a little tiff definitely didn't dent his reputation. im not a gotti fan by any means but its obvious the guy was a tough son of a bitch who I'd bet money on any day in a square fight. The special on the AB on Nat Geo channel was funny with that ayran slob saying "yeah, John Gotti pays US for protection...thats how big we are in here" - which is probably a half truth. Given his high profile and how closely he was monitored Gotti would have been crazy to go after the black guy himself. on top of that he still had the "boss mentality" - having other people do his dirty work. I bet he wasn't paying the AB for protection, it was more like "these guys are scumbags who'll do anything, lemme toss them a few dollars to kill this guy"

another interesting prison fact about Gotti I read in an interview with Seth Ferrante (a prison writer) was that apparently at the MCC there were a bunch of black kids on his tier for drugs, who obviously looked up to him. he would bullshit with them about street life and their cases and basically convinced all of them that real gangsters go to trial and fight the government, not take pleas. so you have a bunch of kids from harlem and the bronx who don't know anything about the system rejecting pleas going to trial with the cheapest pay lawyers possible, losing, and getting an extra 15 years on to their sentence because of what Gotti told them. LOL
