Mafia "all star" family - 06/04/11 06:06 AM

If you could make an All star family hypothetically with administration and capos, who would you pick?

Boss- Tony Accardo

Underboss- Neil Dellacroce

Consigliere- Christie Furnari

Capos- Albert Gallo, Jimmy Failla, Neil Migliore, Salvatore Testa

Top soldiers- Roy Demeo, Sam Destefano, Tony Mirra

Re: Mafia "all star" family - 06/04/11 08:28 AM

Paul Vario always seemed to prosper as a Capo.
That NJ based Genovese Capo called Tino who died a few years back was a serious piece of work.

Good luck trying to keep DeMeo, Mirra and Destefano under control

I dont know what criteria you are using, it seems to be your favorites which is ok because typically fans vote for their all stars in sports but I dont see some of these guys being an all star:

Roy Demeo: Whacked by own family, physcopath, drug dealer, brought a shit ton of heat. I could go on and on and on and on but nuff said

MAd Sam: Whacked by own family, same as Demeo, phscopath, and on and on and on

Jimmy Brown fialla- Good capo yes but this is the same guy who basically double crossed the Gambino administration

Salvie Testa: Whacked by own family

Mirra: Responsible for the Donnie Brasco fiasco, if anyone is far from an all star its him. Also whacked by own family.

I can see Neil and Accardo being on this list but when your own family whacks you that means they had a reason to do so and you are not an all star.

Re: Mafia "all star" family - 06/04/11 04:08 PM

the current alleged administration of the Lucchese family is pretty all-star'ish for the modern day. Not enough to keep them out of jail or their names out of indictments, but Miglore, Madonna, Crea, etc... all seem pretty low key, quiet, old timey. I wouldn't be surprised if they surpass the Gambinos as the 2nd most powerful family in New York in the next 5-10 years.

I can't think of a full hypothetical "all star" family but I'd definitely have Joe Todaro Sr. from Buffalo in there somewhere, and maybe John S------- as a soldier or even a Capo over a crew of guys who don't do any wet work - basically a family of a bunch of relatively quiet quai-legitimate earners and some tough, but not deranged soldiers to back them up

Re: Mafia "all star" family - 06/04/11 10:21 PM

I guess it was really a question as to who you would take to assemble the ultimate mafia family, the same way you would a basketball team. I know most don't like to glamorize(?) these guys, and that is not what I am trying to do. I'm just curious as to who people think the best mobsters are.

I don't think it's fair to not consider someone that was whacked. Sal Testa was whacked because Scarfo felt threatoned.

I can see your point on Demeo, Mirra, and Destefano, however, if I were to assemble a fsmily I would want some nasty enforcers who are also excellent earners.

Arrright, Ima geddin-in-on-dis.

The fact of the matter is, anyone who would even make a post asking this question is undoubtedly guilty of mob fanboyism, considering the pain & ache such mobsters cause/caused, & their general inability to conduct themselves in a manner befitting an honest person, ie; one who's fundamental inclination is one at odds with honest existence.

Having said that, I am going to say:

RULING PANEL: Lucky Luciano, Carlo Gambino, Gaetano Lucchese, Anthony Accardo, Angelo Bruno, Santo Trafficante, Carlos Marcello & Joseph Todaro Sr.

CAPOREGIME: Vito Genovese, Joe Bonanno, Joe Colombo, Joe Profaci, Vito Rizzuto, Carmine Galante, Joe Massino, Aniello Migliore, Mike Miranda, Sonny Franzese, Carmine Persico, John Gotti, Joe Ligambi & Joe Todaro Jr, Jack Dragna,

SOLDATI: Under the respective Family of each theoretical Capo Id have pretty much any mobster that distinguished himself amongst the riff-raff of his respective Family; for instance, Id have guys like John Stallupi & Joe Gallo under guys like Franzese & Persico, guys like Jimmy Brown Failla, Roy DeMeo & Joe Arcuri under guys like Gotti, & guys like Joey the Clown & Mad Sam DeStefano under Accardo. My family would be composed of each & evey mobster that made himself known amongstb the general bullshit.

Honestly, I feel kinda embarrassed to have indulged myself in such blatent mob groupie-ness, but funnily enough Im more interested in what people have to say about my choices rather then what they have to say aboutme responding to such a question.

I do not consider myself a "fanboy", I am thankful most of these animals are locked up, the world is defintely better off without them. I guess "all star" was the wrong term to use, I am a HUGE sports fan and for whatever reason tend to try to equate stuff to sports. I didn't realize it was such a sore spot and didn't mean to come off that way. I am intrigued by the lives that these men have led, but in no way, shape, or form am I rooting for them.

That's because he, like Danny Marino, recognized how ridiculous it was for a guy like Gotti to become boss. What does it say when a relatively obscure capo from Queens can whack out the boss and take over the whole operation virtually overnight?

Excellent point Ivy - I have wondered how many Gambino's, Genovese and Lucchese guys were saying to themselves, "you have got to be kidding me" when Gotti became boss. Especially the Genovese's - you know they were licking their chops.

I believe the wiseguys with half a brain knew Gotti was an idiot, and several of these comments were picked up on FBI bugs. I recall reading after Gotti was convicted that some Genovese guys were captured talking about how good Gotti would be for all the other families.

Re: Mafia "all star" family - 06/06/11 06:54 AM

We actually did something like this over on the Real Deal way back in 2007. Just for shits and giggles of course....

Boss: Charles "Lucky" Luciano
Underboss: Carlo "Don Carlo" Gambino
Consigliere: Anthony "Big Tuna" Accardo

Captains:

Joseph "Joey Doves" Aiuppa

John "Jackie The Lackey" Cerone
Anthony "Tony Ducks" Corallo
Frank "The Prime Minister" Costello
Aniello "Niel" Dellacroce
Gaetano "Tommy" Gagliano
Vincent "The Chin" Gigante
Matthew "Matty The Horse" Ianniello
Joseph "The Clown" Lombardo
Philip "Benny Squint" Lombardo
Gaetano "Tommy Brown" Lucchese
Carlos Marcello
Anthony "Fat Tony" Salerno
Giacamo "Black Jack" Tocco

Wait.....scratch that.....

Boss: Nicodemo "Little Nicky" Scarfo
Underboss: Anthony "Gaspipe" Casso
Consigliere: Peter "Petey Boy" Gotti

Captains:

Vittorio "Vic" Amuso (lets others run his crew)
Joseph "Joe C." Colombo (government liason)
John "Johnny Boy" D'Amato (family morale)
Carmine "Lilo" Galante (interfamily relations)
John "Johnny Boy" Gotti (public relations)
John "Junior" Gotti (nightclub enforcer)

Ivy, very good point and to the normal tax paying citizen this makes sense. However in that world you are only as strong as your boss and leadership. Things like that are what has torn LCN apart over the years. We (tax paying citizen) call it Insubordination but for them it can tear down their whole organization.

As Dellecrose once said LCN means the boss is the boss is the boss. In the end I guess you could say Jimmy Brown did the right thing as he lasted longer, but I just think what he did goes against everything LCN stands for

Re: Mafia "all star" family - 06/06/11 05:45 PM

Jimmy Brown was an excellent mafioso, he made his family millions upon millions in the waste management industry. Gotti was caught on wire saying "Jimmy Brown, he took the garbage industry and turned it into a candy store." I can't blame him for trying to get rid of Gotti, the man wasn't worthy of running the Gambino's, let alone a Dunkin Donuts, he had to go in cahoots with the Genovese and Luchese to try and kill Gotti because his crew was mostly older guys who didn't stand a chance winning a shooting war with Gotti.

I think your post above goes to my argument.

If the "boss is the boss," as Dellacroce said, Gotti had no business having Castellano killed. Furthermore, if we're going by the book, Castellano was the legitimate head of the Gambino family. Gotti took out a boss without official Commission approval and basically installed himself via intimidation. And all because there was a possibility he could be killed and his crew could be broken up for disobeying the boss about drug dealing.

Failla and Marino saw Gotti as an unqualified usurper, so to speak. And as for the "organization is only as strong as the boss" idea, what happened to the Gambinos not long after Gotti took over?

LOL - thanks for the good belly laugh.

Come on Vinny - you are losing your touch! How can you pick Bruno as Underboss in that lineup? I would have guessed you would fill that slot with Nicky Scarfo or Sam DeStefano.

We should call this lineup, "the Gang that puts a premium on life".

I like to go with old-time Mafia guys:

Don: Charlie Luciano--forceful, visionary, practical, and personally modest. The father of the Commission.

Consigliere: Frank Costello--iron hand in velvet glove. Political powerhouse. Prime Minister to Charlie's President.

Caporegimes: Tony Accardo--muscle and brains, for "traditional" Mob activities (gambling, loan sharking, etc). Carlo Gambino--"newer" activities (construction, securities frauds, labor, etc.).

Crew chiefs: Paul Vario, Vito Genovese. Frank Nitti.

Official Wise Man to the Stars: Meyer Lansky.

Bruno's there for a reason. I was not so much trying to make the best administration, but rather the most twisted one. And Bruno between Pitera and DeMeo would be very interesting. Can you imagine the conversations between these motherfuckers.

Excerpts from taped conversations that sadly never took place
Pitera: I want that fucking cocksucker dead. His whole fucking family thrown to the piranha tank. Let him watch before I gut that motherfucker. What's a matter Angelo? You don't look so good.
DeMeo: Angelo? You need a glass of water or something? What's a matter with you?
Angelo: I'll be all right. Just the heat. I sweat in this heat.
Pitera: Sweat? You look like a fucking wet t shirt contestant.
DeMeo (laughing): He looks like one of my cocksucking victims just before the execution.
Angelo: I, I, I just think we need to weigh our options here. Frankie Black has been with us for so long. He loved you Tommy.
Pitera (yelling): HE'S A FUCKING RAT. SEE THAT PICTURE. RAT CLOTHES, RAT FACE, RAT NIPPLE RING, RAT SHOES. FUCK HIM ANGELO. HE'S GOING MOTHERFUCKER!!! I'll cut his balls off and eat them in front of Frankie Jr.
DeMeo: I wanna eat Frankie Jr.'s eyes out of his fucking skull.

Costello would be the perfect consigliere. I think he wasn't suited to be a boss. He was way too much a "gentlemen" for such a role.

If possible I would choose two consiglieres, Costello and Accardo. It's difficult to choose betweem them as both were highly skilled and intelligent. Accardo knew when to be ruthless and Costello had businesses-smarts like no other. Both abilities are important to have for an advisor.

Lucky Luciano may not have been the smartest, but he was definitely a boss type. A man's man. He knew how to deal with people and he had an eye for talent; Meyer Lansky.

Ad underboss I would choose Joe Bonanno. A guy that was smart enough but probably not that smart to make a succesful move against you. Besides, he was said to be a traditional type who believed in the old ways.

As caporegimes I would choose Carlo Gambino, Carmine Lombardozzi, Anthony Scotto, Vincent Alo, Vincent Gigante and probably Tony Salerno.

I would never want a guy like Vito Genovese in my family. Too dangerous, untrustworthy, treacherous and incompetent.

Boss - Carlo Gambino
Underboss - Tommy Lucchese
Consigliere - Vincent Gigante

Street Boss - Paul Vario or maybe even Ligambi. Too difficult to say.
Messaggero - Gaetano Gagliano, able to disappear to spread messages and here to give Lucchese a man on the street

Capo - Anthony Scotto
Capo - Frank Sinito
Capo - Salvatore Sabella, old timer with time to mentor, and he does it great
Capo - Joseph Zerilli, territory disputes
Capo - Joe Aiuppa, kept on a tight leash in NY
Capo - Dominick Brooklier, low-ranking but good strategist to run possible Western faction
Capo - Joseph Todaro Sr, to run possible New England faction

Capo - Michael Lancelotti, "The feds are coming. Quick. Do what Lancelotti is doing"
[Lancelotti] Soldier - Joe Ligambi, role reversal between him and Lancelotti since we see now who is really immune to indictments

Capo - Jimmy Failla
[Failla] Soldier - Alphonse Malangone, to complement Failla and Gigante and take the load off them

Capo - Frank Costello, semi-independent so long as he lends a hand
[Costello] Soldier - Jake Guzik, fill-in for Costello / protege
[Costello] Soldier - Willie Moretti, private NJ army acts as intimidation for Costello and Guzik operations

Capo - Paul Vario
[Vario] Soldier - Robert DiBernardo, the sole master of pornographic rackets who was safer as a soldier
[Vario] Soldier - Anthony Peraino, taking a gamble on pornography. He and DiB would make it international, and huge

Soldier - John Stallupi, powerhouse earner that provides endless opportunity in the vehicle trade
Soldier - Christie Furnari, without management duties could quietly solve disputes and search for earners
Soldier - John Franzese - when the time does come to hit someone
