The Mafia forgives and forgets -- for a price!

The mobbed-up owner of a posh Staten Island eatery was nearly whacked for fooling around with a wiseguy's wife -- but dodged the bullet after ponying up a $50,000 "tax" instead.

"They wanted to take him to the basement of the restaurant and kill him," recalled the cuckolded hubby, low-level Bonanno associate Salvatore Volpe, of the nearly rubbed-out restaurateur while on the stand in Brooklyn federal court yesterday.

The eatery owner -- only identified as "Anthony" of Staten Island's Trattoria Romana -- was an associate of the DeCavalcante crime family of New Jersey.

He had committed the ultimate insult: sleeping with another mob associate's wife, said Volpe, a mob rat who dished the juicy tidbit while testifying at the capital murder trial of Bonanno acting boss Vincent "Vinny Gorgeous" Basciano.

The restaurant owner and Volpe's wife had a child together, the spurned Volpe testified -- and at one point, his now-former spouse even tried to pass the baby off as Volpe's.

The foolish infidelity in 2003 led three Bonanno wiseguys to confront Anthony at his restaurant, the snitch sang on the stand.

That confrontation wound up leading to two life-and-death sit-downs between both crime families, said Volpe, 48.

The two sides first huddled at a table at Alfredo's restaurant on Hylan Boulevard on Staten Island to discuss the issue -- with the DeCavalcantes pushing to rub out Anthony to appease the Bonannos, said Volpe, adding that he was at the eatery at the time but not privy to the talks because he's not a "made" man.

But after the second set of talks, also at Alfredo's, it was decided that "instead of Anthony getting killed, he'd have to pay a tax," Volpe testified.

The price for his life? $50,000.

The DeCavalcantes got $10,000 and Volpe took the rest, minus the usual kickback he gave to his crime family for various enterprises, Volpe said.

The sensational details of the inner workings of the mob surfaced as the feds try to nail Basciano for ordering a 2004 hit on alleged associate-turned-rat Randy Pizzolo.

To that end, Volpe described how Pizzolo had been threatening to take on Basciano because he was passed over for getting "made."

Pizzolo had said he wanted to "level The Bronx," Volpe said.

Basciano is also known as "Vinny from The Bronx" because he owned the beauty parlor "Hello Gorgeous" there.

Volpe said the next thing he knew, Pizzolo was dead.

If I was Salvatore Volpe I'd be a little upset that some dude banged my wife and made her pregnant and all I got was a poxy $40,000 (some of which I'd have to kickback).
I'd want him hung from the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge (and not by the neck!)

Didnt the same thing happen to Dellacroce when he knocked up someone else wife?
(Carlo made him cough up some cash to the aggrieved husband)

Geez, this is much worse than saying that Ginny Sack had a 95 pound mole removed from her ass whistle.

$50,000 for a lay lol. Hey, maybe it was worth it. Maybe there were sparks shootin' out of that woman's ass. I hope so for Anthony's sake.
