Gerard Pappa

Gerard Pappa - 04/26/11 05:36 PM

Why was Gerry Pappa killed?

Wikipedia says it was in revenge for killing Ralph Spero who was a suspected Stool pigeon.
This would be the same Ralph Spero that had a bust up with Sammy Gravano which caused him to be transfered to the Gambino's.

Was Ralph Spero made?
Did Pappa simply decide to kill him off his own initiative?
Why did the Chin allow him to be killed? - was he pissed off with Pappa's violent ways?
Finally, was Pap the guy who actually started the windows racket or was he simply the appointed Genovese representative?

Cheers

There's several different versions of that hit. They were gonna try Armando Rea for it, but ultimately decided against it when they couldn't bury all these conflicting stories. The best guess is Vincent "Mad Dog" Coll.

the guy seems very "un-genovese" compared to the more shrewed genovese guys we hear about.

i think it was a Pappa associate, Pete Savino, who proposed the windows racket idea, with the Luccheses setting everything in motion through their control over that specific union. basically a brilliant, game changing scam if Savino never flipped

For some reason, my sources keep implying that Pappa went from the average gangster to the new Tony Mirra after his friend Jimmy Emma died (they both ran The Rampers). Just as confirmation, do we know if he killed anyone before Mimi Scialo whacked Jimmy Emma?

Off topic: apparently this is how they discuss the mafia on non-mafia forums. http://www.sherdog.net/forums/f48/john-gotti-880705/index5.html

Pappa does seemed to have turned loopy after Jimmy Emma's death.
But why was he allowed to remain with the mob if he applied for protection from the NYPD?
Sammy Gravano claimed he was shown paperwork that Gerard had signed?

Why was Gerry Pappa killed? Some believe he was killed because he was a loose cannon, acting on his own. He had a few sit downs and was told to change, lower profile, possibly he was doing or selling drugs. He was one of the guys involved in the Arista Windows racket but did not start it on his own
