Does anyone know if Mr Cortese is suspected of doing hits in the past? Also is he a good shot? From what I read about the Nic Rizzuto Sr shooting, the triggerman had to be skilled marksman.

I do not believe in coincidences. A Toronto Calabrian in Montreal 2 days before Rizzuto Sr. is murdered? Hmmmm.

Also, I do not think the shot that killed Sr. was as difficult as suggested. I have hunted deer and a shot from 75-100 meters with a good scope and sighted rifle is not that difficult.

How unusual should it be? I imagine there surely are more Toronto Calabrians in Montreal just as there are Montreal Sicilians in Toronto. It's not like Berlin during the cold war. wink

The only thing that raises suspicion with me is the fact that he was on the lam and laying low...Why come into montreal and go shoplifting for items that clearly look to be used in a hit or violent crime? Lets also not forget that Cortese is a cousin of Vincenzo DeMaria who runs one of the Ndrangheta clans in ontario...he would definitely be on the list of people that would want Nicolo dead.

But he did the shopping after Rizzuto was killed. And why would DeMaria want Nicolo dead? The Rizzuto's were allied with Calabrians in Toronto.

Sonny, I think you are correct, the Calabrians were allied with the Rizzuto's, but not anymore.

Why the idiot was trying to shop life when he had that wad of cash and on the lam is beyond me, unless he did not want any trail back to the gun holster, ammo pouch and potential silencer. I think Mooney raises a good question on how this relates to what is happening in Montreal. I find the coincidence compelling.

This story is so bizarre it is like the guy wanted to get caught, maybe he thinks he safer in jail then he is on the streets.

Very unusual for a guy on the lam to go into Montreal and risk being caught for no reason , and now with the authorities questioning him about the Rizzuto shooting sure seems like a lot of coincidences. Then with his ties to the Calabrians as they are seems like could be some smoke there , if it leads to a fire we will have to wait and see.

Perhaps he or someone he was associated with had some unfinished buisness to tend to after they shot nicolo. Perhaps someone else was on the list to get whacked that week and the shoplifting charge got in the way of it. Also at one time the rizzuto's were aligned with the calabrians yes but that was always a rocky relationship, Vito basically took over ontario by force and regardless calabrians and sicilians don't get along and all it would take is some sign of weakness (project colisee) for them to strike.
