If you look closely, that's a listing of members both living and passed away. Only about a dozen of those on that list are said to still be living, which is believable.

Incidentally, while I know Scott D has written a couple books on the Tampa family, as well as a few others, I wasn't aware he had done any research on the KC family or had posted a chart on the forum.

There have been KC charts floating around for a long time, some with more than 40 names, but I'm not sure how well researched they were. Like he said, probably a lot of associates misidentified as members and others who had passed away cited as still living.

Sonny Black,

Please reread it a lot slower. Also, there were 71 guys, not 70.

Re: Kansas City Mafia Chart - 08/03/11 02:51 AM

my father use to do certain things for the kc family and he looked at this list and said it was pretty much correct....the family is still here and is around 15 people now....

Yknow I've always wondered how Willie the Rat Cammisano got his nickname. Its not exactly a term of endearment in the world of LCN.

Re: Kansas City Mafia Chart - 08/03/11 11:27 AM

I think its pretty safe to say that KC family is still around but very small with less than 20 soldiers

Various sources believe that Cammisano got his nickname "because he killed people and stuck them in the sewers so the rats could eat them." However, an adamant Willie Cammisano always contended the actual nickname was "Willie Rats," which was a nickname that he had earned as a child when he taught his dog to rid houses of rats and other vermin.

Re: Kansas City Mafia Chart - 08/08/11 04:51 AM

You cant call this a chart, sure the names you listed are of Kansas City mob guys most of them have been dead for 40 years. Duardi jr died in December of this year. You dont have Thomas "highway" Simone, listed he was Nick Civella's first underboss and the father of Anthoney, Max Jaben is missing. You dont have Chuck Cacioppo sr. he just passed in Dec also. You missed John Amaro murdered two house up from Nick Civella during the Spero War. Nick Labruzzo was never made, his brother Vito was, he was co-owner with Nick in the Chubby's stores. You missed Paul Silvio, Paul Varsalona, John and Frank Castanza, Anthony Cardarella, Felix Ferina, Jerry Cammisano, Joe Moretina Sr., Joe Mandacina, fuck I could go all day also according to trial testomony from his drug trial in the early 90's, Calia is not made they indicated he was an associate of John Glorioso. You dont have any of the Pisciotta's listed, nor the Termini's or the Suteras or Searings, Travalenta's. The Brocato's, David Bonadonna, If you want a true accounting of the KC family during the Civella era, the book just released Mobsters in our midst has been the most accurate book on the outfit in KC that I have ever read. It is pretty spot on. But if your going to make a chart covering 100 years then you are way way way short.

BTW Alex Presta was not made he worked with Civella on the political side, much like Capra and Fassino and Rizzo.

Whats he going to say "yeah I got the nick name because of how I get rid of bodies" LOL seriously, the KC Times (now defunct) gave him the Nickname in the early 60's when they titled an article "the rats got'em", a mob associate who had been informed on by a LE cooperator was killed because of the information he knew, the murder was atributed to Willie although he was never charged. The name morphed to "the rat" and remained till the day he died. On a side note, although a ruthless individual when need be, when I was a young boy Willie was always very nice to me and always treated my family well. whenever he would come into my Uncle Paul's store on Brooklyn.
I were to write a book on the KC outfit it would be on Willie, he was certainly a man with two faces.

Re: Kansas City Mafia Chart - 11/30/11 09:29 AM

Joey Dice is wrong, this chart is right on the money. It lists people that were actual members (not associates) of the KC crime family.

Re: Kansas City Mafia Chart - 11/30/11 07:46 PM

3/4 of the names listed are DEAD lol, I am not talking about who was on the chart, I am talking about who should be on the chart now, in the present.

Re: Kansas City Mafia Chart - 03/09/15 01:12 PM

I know this is an old thread, but.

What is the relationship between Sam Scola, who was killed doing a hit for John Lazia, and PAUL Scola, who muscled in to the River Quay on behalf of the Cammissanos in the 70s?

How important was James Balestrere? Was he the real power from the 30s-50s, with everyone else a front boss?

Re: Kansas City Mafia Chart - 03/09/15 04:07 PM

Barrett, I don't know too much about the Kansas City CN nor was i ever really interested in them until now. I started to read a couple of articles/reports online about that family and i gotta tell ya, it sparked my interest. Very low key and powerful family in their day.

Anyway, since you bumped this thread, here's a pic of William Cammisano & his brother Joseph.

There may be made guys still alive, but there is no family functioning.

Pretty much this, and I swear there was an article a couple years ago about the remaining guys coming together agreeing to close up shop for good.

NJ very cool photos. Willie Cammissano was one of the scariest SOBs in the american mob. A DeMeo in his own right, and you can take that to the bank. The "war" in the River Quay district in the 1970s wasn't so much about the Civellas wanting to open up vice in the new thriving district, but the Cammisanos. They had that much free rein. The most interesting thing to me about KC is how closely they were intertwined with politics. There is no city that better encapsulates the kind of bossism you see on Boardwalk Empire, complete with corrupt aldermen, vice rackets, paid off police, patronage, and shoddy elections. Of course, there was the ugly side of bossism, like letting the mob operating freely. But in the early 20th century there was no form of state welfare but patronage for the average voter, let alone an Irish or Italian immigrant. And if you wanted to open a business, men like Tom and Jim Pendergast could do a lot to cut through the red tape in exchange for a favor or a vote. That, along with the mob's dirty work on election days, is why bossism in KC endured.

My grandpa who I never had the chance to meet had a trucking company in KC. He was violently anti-union and just one dude in general. But he lived full time in Nashville with my grandma who I also never met. His KC connection got me interested in the city so I just finished reading Mafia and the Machine and Mobsters in Our Midst. The first is more about the early years and the second is by William Ouseley, who launched the Strawman investigation. Both highly recommended for sure.

Same as many of the other families - attrition and prosecutions.

Mr. Frank LaRocca was a close friend of our family and he was a good man who was just taking care of his family. His wholesale grocery business thrived while he was alive. After he passed away, in 1976, his sons and grandsons kept it going for as long as they could; however, in the later years of the 20th century things started going downhill. They finally closed up shop and liquidated everything after 2000.

John Sciortino was the god son to Tony Civella and was a captain at the time of Tonys last prison stretch. After Cammisano's death in 95, and Simone's incarseration, Sciortino was made street boss. He was Civella's hand picked successor with a long history in the family.

The March 2010 indictment (following raids in 2009) involved a bookmaking operation that involved 10 people and handled $3.6 million in bets over 3 years. I suppose "large" is relative but I'm not sure it applies here.

Of course, during the 2009 raids, Jimmy DiCapo was found with over $400,000 in counterfeit merchandise (purses, wallets, shoes, sunglasses, hats, t-shirts, etc.)

There's also been cases after that. In June 2011, KC soldier Vincent Pisciotta and associate Mark Sorrentino were indicted for their part in the Herford House arson job. In February 2014, Anthony Civella Jr pleaded guilty to bank larceny and money laundering involving the theft of over $330,000 from a bank while his company (C Management Group LLC) serviced it's ATM machines.

Apparently not strong enough to even be recognized by the FBI or mob experts anymore.

Re: Kansas City Mafia Chart - 10/29/15 11:34 AM

Johnny Joe is semi retired, what little activity is left is controlled by Simone. The titles of boss and underboss are still used but it is more for ceremonial and respect purposes than anything. Larry Strada owned a bar and was a bookie for the mob, he was not a robber. He was killed for giving testimony before the grand jury which led to the conviction of John Mandacina, Sutera and Eddie Searing for running a gambling operation. This also eventually connected to the arrest and conviction of Pete Simone and Jimmy Moretina and Be Amused Vending. Mandacina was convicted of having Strada killed using a Robber, name McGuire as the hitter. Johnny Joe and Simone were unindicted coconspiritors in that case.

Wille Cammisano and Willie Cammisano Jr. were feared in this city for their ruthlessness and willing to kill. Jr is suspected in at least 4 murders but probably many more.

Not really, what's left still revolves around the Civella's and Cammisanos.

The Sansone brothers are the grandsons of Tony Civella. Nick Civella did not have any kids.

There is a few guys involved in this and that, but they no longer are a viable and structured family and I am not sure they want to be.
