John Gotti's Crew - 05/28/08 01:21 PM

After John Gotti was promoted to the Boss of the Gambino Crime Family, Angie Ruggiero was promoted to the Captain of the Gotti Crew, but who was promoted to the Captain of the Crew after Angie died and who the present Captain of the Gotti Crew?

Gotti wasn't promoted to be the head of the Gambinos--he got there by murdering boss Paul Castellano in December 1985. Angelo (Quack-Quack) Ruggiero was a close pal of Gotti's but I don't believe he ever had a captain's tatus. But the time of Gotti's takeover, Ruggiero was ill from the cancer that killed him in 1989, and was under indictment on four serious charges. Gotti's brothers Peter and Gene were the equivalents of crew chiefs at that time. Peter was acting Don after Gotti died. The current boss of the Gambino family, as far as is known, is Jackie (Nose) D'Amico.

Peter became the official boss after John died, and he still holds the title. D'Amico was acting boss before he was indicted.

John "Johnny Boy" Gotti was originally in the Fatico crew headed by past Gambino captain Carmine Fatico. Gotti joined the crew in the mid 1960s. Before that he belonged to an East New York, Brooklyn gang called the Fulton Rockway Boys. Angelo Ruggiero, Peter Gotti and the Carneglia Bro's were all members of the street gang. Fatico was placed in prison in the early 1970s and the Fatico crew had only one other made member other then Fatico himself. Because Carlo Gambino didn't make any new members before that because he was affraid of bringing in a drug dealer. Fatico named Gotti the acting captain of his crew, while he was in the joint. Gotti didn't get made until after his release from prison in 1977.

Ruggerio was never Underboss or "Co-Underboss." When Gotti took over, Frank DeCicco was Underboss before he was killed. After that Joe Armone became Underboss until he was imprisoned. Then Frank Locascio became Underboss but later switched positions with Sammy Gravano, who had previously been Consigliere.

After decicco died the underboss position was vacant so for the time being gotti filled the posstion by naming gravano and ruggiero as co-underbosses then named Joe Piney as underboss

I'm not sure where you are getting this information but it isn't correct. Ruggiero was already on Gotti's shit list for all the trouble the tapes of his heroin operation brought. It was the primary reason for the conflict with Castellano, which ultimately led to them taking Paul out.

Once Gotti took over as Boss he made Frank DeCicco his Underboss and Joe N. Gallo stayed on as Consigliere. Then DeCicco was killed in the car bomb and was replaced by Joe Armone. Sammy Gravano briefly became Acting Boss while Gotti was in jail. Later he replaced Gallo as Consigliere and Frank Locascio became Acting Underboss when Armone was indicted. And then when Armone went away, Locascio became Underboss. Later Gravano and Locascio switched positions.

Ruggiero never rose above Captain before he died.

I'm not saying you are wrong but i read in gravano's book that after frank's death gott made angelo and sammy kind of co-underbosses for a short perios because gotti was in jail and they were running the day to day activties. Joe Armone was made formal underboss and spent time in florida to run things for gotti
