I always wondered, if you retired as the don of A mob family, but them chose to become the boss again, would that be allowed now tht there was A new boss?
Chances are, youd have to fight your way back to the top.

If you retired a Don and then decided to come out of retirement , you could no longer be known as "The Don." You would now be called " The Donald."

Didn't Accardo retire in 1957 and became the boss again after Giancana's reign?
Technically you're right, but he "shared" the tip slot with a bunch of other top Outfit members.
Accardo basically wanted out of the day to day menutia of the Outfit. While guys like Giancana, Cerone, Aiuppa, and Alex took that role, Accardo was brought in on the bigger decisions up until his death.
