Although I do not know there are many differs in the movie.

SPOILER WARNING.

In real life, Lefty Ruggiero did not get whacked, but went to prison and died.

In real life, Brasco was actually more close to Sonny Black then Lefty.

In real life, it was Sonny Black who was whacked.

Sonny red was a capo, the entire faction
was at war over the drug dealings,
carmine galante was whacked for his
constant push to become the "BOSS"
of the commisson,among other things,
by the time sonny black became a man
of power the entire family was doomed,
the entire crew was whacked except
for Russo who just vanished,lefty
did some 12 or 15 years then died
shortly after being released from prison.
ONE NOTE-Joe Pistone does not tell the
entire story,there are many non-truths
to the actual time-lines and his so
called under-cover work.He described
the sonny-black hit completely wrong
and only now is there a case against the
actual crew that clipped sonny, the crew
was recently indicted for his murder.
Also there was no such bounty put on his
head by Paul Castellano 500,000.00$
Joe Pistone was much more active then
he leads on,pretty much he's a piece of
shit and a liar to say the least,he lives
off his bogus book and celebrity,he's
not worth the time to execute.

Re: donnie brasco - 01/03/04 05:24 PM

There are many discrepancies among the movie, the book and real life. I have no doubt that Joe Pistone exaggerated and probably fictionalized some events to improve the drama of his story (and sales of his book). That said, the book is very enjoyable, far more so than the movie (which isn't bad, either).
Alfonse (Sonny Red) Indelicato was killed as part of a Bonanno war between factions supporting Carmine Galante and Philip (Rusty) Rastelli. The latter faction won, and since Sonny Red supported Galante, he paid the price. That's how Dominick (Sonny Black) Napolitano rose to be come the Number Two equivalent in the Bonannos.
Galante made his bones by murdering Carlo Tresca, a famous Italian anarchist and editor of an anti-fascist newspaper in America, in 1943. Supposedly the Tresca murder was ordered by Vito Genovese as a favor to Mussolini, whom Tresca opposed, in order to pave the way for Genovese's sojourn in Italy to escape murder charges in the US. Joe Bonanno, late in his life, blamed the family's reputation for drug-dealing on Galante, and said he (Bonanno) had no knowledge of it. Anyone who believes that probably believes in the Great Pumpkin and the Tooth Fairy. :p
I agree: Robert Miano, who played Sonny Red in the film, was, like Luca Brasi, "a very scary guy."

Either of you guys, Turnbull or Eddie the plumber....you seem as though you have studied OC quite deeply.....I know Eddie, you said Pistone was full of sh** but tell me something....In the flick, everytime something goes down (usually a hit,it seems like the movie goes out of the way to show how Pistone (ooops...Donnie Brasco) was not directly involved.

was this 'cause the mob still didn't trust him, or was he really involved and is as you say...full of sh**?

From what I know of the mob, you've gotta prove yourself in order to move up as high as Pistone supposedly did and that usually meant whacking someone.....So....what's up with that, please?

^^^^

Ur probabaly right for pistone 2 get that high he would of had to make some sort of 'bones' by wacking some one, however even if that had happened pistone would of never admitted to it as he would of been convicted himself.

Also who was the old moustache pete boss who gets wacked early on supposed to be???

No ones really explained that

Thanks

carmine galante

Re: donnie brasco - 01/05/04 05:50 PM

Galante was not really a so called moustache
pete.He was a killer though,and good
at it,he did some hard time and gained
some much due respect by the family.
Pistone was highly trusted,he made
the Napolitano crew very wealthy and
powerful.Do not kid your-self as far
as his role was w/the Bonannos'in
those days 70s-80s you had to be
in on or the man when a hit went down.
If his story is true then his almost
being made or the Bonannos' opening
the books for him, only shows that he is or
was a liar or he was in on a hit.
It also has to be true that he received
money from the crew for their scores, the
fbi was all but done financing his jaunts
to FLA. WISCONSIN and back to NEWYORK.
This i will tell you and my word is good,
in no way shape or form has any one of
the 5 factions put a open contract on
pistone,not for 5.00 or 500,000.00
he would be dead now,guarenteed.
