Has anybody seen this movie? How was it?

I've seen it. It wasn't fantastic, but I didn't mind it. Better than I thought it was going to be. Jay Hernandez is pretty impressive, I'm really liking him these days. Worth watching if you liked the original.

It wasn't bad as a movie, but it sucked as a preqel. The timeline doesn't match at all.

Yeah, I noticed that too. It also bugged me how he was still with his girlfriend at the end of the movie when Gayle is so important to Carlito in the original. I haven't read the books so I don't know how it's all meant to play out, but I didn't like that much.

Yeah, that bugged me too. The biggest thing was the year/age thing. Totally off from the first movie. In Rise to Power he was in his 20's in the 1960's, and in the original he was in his 50's or 60's in the mid 1970's.

Do they actually say his age during any of the movies? Or are you guessing? I can't remember.

No, they don't say, but it takes place in the mid 60's and he is obviously young (i'd say in his late 20's), and the original takes place in like 1974 or so (it says in the begining) and Al Pacino was in his 50's or 60's.

Just because Pacino was that age doesn't mean Carlito was. I dunno, I bought the books ages ago, working in a book store means I buy heaps of books and then forget I own them until I'm reminded, so I'll read them to see if I can get some semblance to this time line.

True, but ten years wouldn't change you that much. I can see him aging a little, but that's too much.

I read at amazon.com that the only thing similar was the name Carlito. This movie isn't a prequel to Carlito's Way. Luis Guzman who was in the first is in this but not as the same character he played in Carlito's Way.

Yeah, it's just based on the same books as Carlito's Way. One of the films is probably more accurate to the books and the other isn't. Hense the differances. I still think they could have paid more attention to it though.

Al Pacino isn't playing his age in the first film. Keep that in mind.

I'm pretty sure the prequel is based on 'After Hours', if memory serves me it says that in the opening credits. The second book is just called Carlito's Way. I just assumed After Hours was the prequel and Carlito's Way the original.

Carlito's Way, the movie, was based on After Hours. Rise to Power was based on Carlito's Way.

True, but wasn't that the whole point of this Prequel? To bank off the original film? You would've thought that they would've played to that script wise. They certainly did with sales.

The book "After Hours" is a cracking read but the new movie version is a bit lame!
Not terrible,just a bit lame.

I liked it more than the original, it wasnt a better movie, but I enjoyed it more, if that makes sense.
