Finally being released on DVD

Don't miss it.

http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1808490806/dvdinfo

The original thread from when the movie first hit the theatres (July of 2005, I think) has been deleted, but I can state with certainty that there is no one who likes the mob film genre that won't really enjoy this one.

If you Google it, there are a bunch of interesting links with photos, the trailer, etc.

I remember that you gave it a rave review, but I couldn't find it for sale. I'll try it ("the finest in New York"?).

Apparently it's being released for the first time on March 7th.

I wouldn't have known myself, but Beth was watching a TV interview last night with my pal Frank Vincent, and he mentioned it and she gave me the heads-up.

Yay! I'd been wanting to see it again. What show was he doing an interview on?

By the way, I'm so glad other people will finally get to see this movie. One of the times that I saw it, I was all alone in the theater, isn't that sad?! And the other time, there was an older man closer to the front. I think that makes it about 5 people who saw it in theaters, counting you and the people you took, right PL?

The interview Frank was on was a Cable talk show. I'm not sure if this is just local or if it's nationwide. Here's a link.

I just watched it for the first time. A very generous friend of mine bought it for me and surpirsed me with it yesterday.

I agree with Plaw. Anyone who loves the Mob genre will enjoy this movie.

Typical Frank Vincent mobster character.

James Caan, well he's good in whatever movie he plays in.

Vincent Pastore. All they did had to do was change his name from Big Pussy into Skip for this movie. Same type of entertaining character that he was in The Sopranos.

For anyone who's seen it or even anyone who is going to watch it for the first time, see how long it takes you to realize what other movie the actor, who plays Austin Palermo in this movie, is from. See if you can name the movie and the character he played.

I just received this movie from Columbia House and watched it. It was a very good movie, I concur with my esteemed colleagues who say anyone who loves Mob genre movies will appreciate and like this one, very well done.

I have yet to find a movie with Mr. Vincent in it that I dont at least appreciate his part, I especially loved him in Goodfellas.

Have any of you seen the music video on the DVD? Some of thr cast as well as Steve Tyler and Joe Perry spoof/re-enact some scenes from The Godfather.. funny stuff.

A very generous friend also sent me a copy of "This Thing of Ours." I liked it a lot, but it's not a great film, IMO. On the one hand, it's got an unbeatable cast, and some of the dialog between the veterans is as natural-sounding and engaging as anything in a Scorsese gangster flick. On the other hand, I found the plot far-fetched and the ending unsatisfying.

I noticed that one of the actors Paul Vario who plays Paulie is in this movie. I wonder if he is related to the Vario's.

Re: "This Thing Of Ours" - 06/02/06 01:16 AM

I just got this movie from half.com for 10 bucks...Honestly, it kinda sucked. I mean, I love Frank Vincent, which is basically the reason I got the movie...but this movie was obviously very amateur in many ways. Most of the acting sucked really badly-Frank was good, but he's definitely been better. A lot of the sort of jokes/"funny" parts of the movie just dragged on. It was like, haha that's funny, but then after you chuckle about it, the "joke" continues on for seriously like 2 more minutes full, and it made me think "Okay, I f---ing get it, move on please!"

To me, it was exactly like watching one of those crappy, low-budget soft-core pornos you see late at night on Cinemax or whatever, but minus the porno part. It just had the exact same feel and look to it. Anyone else know what I mean?

Decent movie to watch if you're bored, but that's about as far as I'll go.

Re: "This Thing Of Ours" - 06/02/06 08:53 AM

I liked it, Morello, but I agree with your general feeling about it - it was good only if you like this genre of movie. The acting was somewhat amateurish, but it tells a good story, and its more up-to-date than many Mob movies.

Re: "This Thing Of Ours" - 06/02/06 11:57 AM

The only acting that I thought was bad was the FBI guys.

The mobster's roles, I thought, were all very well acted, and the scenes where they were simply having those little exchanges among themselves which had nothing to do with the plot were very realistic and funny at the same time because I found them to be so right on the mark.

Obviously it was low budget and amateurish in spots, but overall I liked it a lot.

Re: "This Thing Of Ours" - 06/02/06 02:28 PM

I agree that it was a good story/plot. The only part of the story I found basically downright ridiculous was when they said how they had talked to Fidel Castro in Cuba and he was in on it, too, or something like that. I actually found myself saying out loud, "What a crock of sh--." But still, good and clever story, no doubt. I also agree that most of the mob guys did act pretty well, and yes, the FBI guys were horrible-especially the one who was in charge! There were definitely some positive aspects to it, I admit. One thing I was confused about-the ending: was Frank Vincent letting him out, or saying no, or basically just saying maybe, we'll see how things go first...?
