Fargo 4 to feature KC Mafia - 06/12/19 03:56 PM

The fourth season of Fargo will premiere in early 2020.
Here’s the show’s premise:

“In 1950, at the end of two great American migrations — that of Southern Europeans from countries like Italy, who came to the US at the turn of the last century and settled in northern cities like New York, Chicago — and African Americans who left the south in great numbers to escape Jim Crow and moved to those same cities — you saw a collision of outsiders, all fighting for a piece of the American dream. In Kansas City, Missouri, two criminal syndicates have struck an uneasy peace. One Italian, one African American. Together they control an alternate economy — that of exploitation, graft and drugs. This too is the history of America. To cement their peace, the heads of both families have traded their eldest sons.

Chris Rock plays the head of one family, a man who — in order to prosper — has surrendered his oldest boy to his enemy, and who must in turn raise his son’s enemy as his own. It’s an uneasy peace, but profitable. And then the head of the Kansas City mafia goes into the hospital for routine surgery and dies. And everything changes. It’s a story of immigration and assimilation, and the things we do for money. And as always, a story of basically decent people who are probably in over their heads. You know, Fargo.”

Sounds like historical revisionism.

Yes and yes.

They already did that with the second season of the show, set in the 1970s, where the KC-based “mafia” plays a pivotal role.

Surprisingly none of its members were of Italian decent. They were a melting-pot outfit of Jewish, black, Asian and Anglo-German leaders and hitmen.

Diversity was their strength...

I guess that whatever happened in the 1950s messed them up real bad.

I thought this was close to airing, not in the casting phase still. Shit.

Yeah, the first season was the best, and the third season was good. So far, Mr. Wrench is the constant factor between the anthologies. With the fourth taking place in the 1950s, we wont be seeing Mr. Wrench.

It's plausible Italians were running that empire from behind the scenes. The midwest mobs are typically depicted this way in tv and movies. The organization of that KC syndicate in S2 of Fargo resembles that of Nitti's outfit in Road To Perdition. His office was in a typical business highrise.

Nice. I'm surprised at how many people won't give the tv version of Fargo a chance. They have no idea what they're missing.

The movie is good. I gave the show a shot and was hooked by the 4th episode. Second season was good till they tried to experiment with somethings that I did not like. The third season was also good and the top performances were Carrie Coon, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, David Thewlis, and Ewan McGregor in dual roles. A lot of people are missing out on the show. The writing and chemistry the actors have is what makes it a gem to watch. The first season is still the best in my opinion.

I thought the second season was great. May I ask what did they experiment with that you did not like?

The alien thing was kind of silly in season 2 but it was still the best season imo. Best build up to the final showdown. More suspense. Peggy and Ed realizing Dodd had escaped was one of the great moments of television this decade. Too many great characters to count. Mike Milligan (black KC mobster, which will be the focus on season 4), Hanzee, Nick Offerman as the town lawyer and drunk, Ted Danson. Several good subplots, none of which were excessive or overdone, all with ties to the ending.

Season 4 trailer.

Looks like a fictional iteration of the Civellas plays significantly into this.

The Entertainment industry sure loves to put blacks against Italians whenever they have a chance...from movies to tv series to video games.

Actually there have been feuds between them in Kansas City, but the African-Americans were also their biggest customers.

This has been delayed too. They were almost done filming when the virus started spreading. I imagine 2021. Maybe late this year.
