The mother of all sleeper films. Wow. If you like your old school 1970's action/crime man films, then you'll like this! I'd never heard of this film untill recently when it was aired in its full restored glory on uk tv. It was released the same day as Star Wars in 1977 in the U.S and as Friedkin put it "died a horrible death that day". The title of the film confused people into thinking it was about wizards and was a sequel to the exorcist. Not a mafia film but has mob elements involved. Four segments, four criminals from different parts of the world. An assassin, a terrorist, a corrupt French banker and a Irish mobster who robs a mafia controlled church. All four on the run and hiding in some dump in South America, take a job, a 1 way trip to hell, transporting 2 trucks(sorcerer) full of hyper sensitive explosives, 200 miles across hostile terrain. It's Stephen Kings favourite film ever and one of Tarantinos. it's been getting a lot of media attention of late , where the critics are calling it a lost masterpiece. Friedkin said its his proudest piece of work. The scene where the Mafia put the contract on Roy Schneider is captured so authenticly.

I saw it, it was not a mob movie but it was great. It has. small mafia element, the main character being on the run, but that took up only a few minutes of the movie. I want to see the original French movie it was based on, called The Wages of Fear. Supposedly the original is the better of the 2 versions. Roy Schneider"s a great character actor. Has anyone seen the Seven Ups, a mob movie he made?
