I see that this news was originally released way back in October of last year. However there hasn't been any other news releases or any other information provided about this since the initial report back in October.

I can't seem to find anything else about this.

You young'uns are forgetting "The Gangster Chronicles."

It was a mini-series, made for tv back in the early '80s. Not very factual, and not even all that well acted, but it's a lot of fun to watch. If you can find a copy on ebay (and it's not easy), I recommend it just as a fun popcorn movie.

Re: Upcoming Five Families TV-Series - 05/17/14 07:15 AM

Here are some old shows on this subject I liked.

Crime story starring Anthony Dennison. I thought his character was very good. It took me a while to get used to his haircut.

WiseGuy starting Ken Walh. Dug the sonny character and Pat the cat Patrice. Joe delesandro is still kicking. Saw him in a music video not so long ago.

Falcone really liked that short lived series. The kid that just got out of the clink was in it. Shot it in Brooklyn. There is an actor Titus weaveri co stared in it. I thought he was really good in it. If you have not seen it gets it. Hard to get good copies though.

Weaver is going to have a new tv show for amazon Bosch something like that. He plays a detective not my favorite people. At the end of the pilot you find out he was abused by his Daddio as a kid. Since I was also lucky enough to have that happen to me.

I am interested how that effected how he deals with people now as a cop.

It made me a more interesting person thats for sure smile

I hope they don't mess it up by solely focousing Masseria, Maranzono, Luciano, Lanksy and Seigel.

It would be great to see the stories of Profaci, Gagliano, Mangano, Bonanno and even maybe Reina and Pinozlo covered (or what we know about them at least). Even better if they went as far back as Giuseppe Morello but that's a pipedream, even Raab didn't cover that era much in his book.

If they was to focus on Morello then the makers should read The First family which goes into great depth about Morello.

I loved that show. I thought that Michael Nouri, Joe Penny and Brian Benben did a good job portraying Luciano, Siegal and Lasker (Lansky). And you know who I thought did a really great job portraying his character? Richard Castellano. To me he played Joe The Boss Masseria exactly as I pictured Joe to be from all of the books that I read.

The entire series is very tough to find. I believe that there was a total of 13 episodes.

They have a bogus 2 hour cut down version which was edited and renamed The Gangster Wars, but it leaves out way too much!

Crime Story was awesome. Not many remember it. Dennison played a great gangster, and Dennis Farina was great as well. I just watched that whole series earlier this year on Hulu (and it was free BTW). For those that enjoy gangsters should watch this series for sure.

Remember when Mike Starr played the shy. I thought he would be a star character actor after seeing him in that, and he has.

He's okay, but he only plays one part. Talk about typecast!

Re: Upcoming Five Families TV-Series - 05/24/14 07:36 PM

That's right

My daughter owned a house in Jersey. We took the train to see her. He was in the same car he lives in Jersey. I introduced myself to him. He tried to say he was not him. Then I told him I saw him in the odd couple on broadway he played the cop. Then that my friend was in goodfellas Johnny Roastbeef. Then he felt comfortable enough to talk.

He is a dead ringer for a friend of mine Ralphie. Except Ralph was shorter and Ralphie is dead smile

Looking forward to this. I just wonder if they are going to show all the bosses or just going to concentrate on Luciano, Genovese, Costello, Anastasia ect.

Re: Upcoming Five Families TV-Series - 06/29/14 12:25 PM

Gangster Chronicles definitely one of the best gangster shows ever. Very believable and I think it was based on reminisences of Meyer Lansky himself. I read a book around the time that show was on and the author was only identified as M.L. It was over thirty years ago so I may be way off. Anyone else read that book?

As there been any date set for this show..

Re: Upcoming Five Families TV-Series - 07/04/14 08:32 PM

A good idea for the show would be if they had each season take place in different eras of the mob. Starting with Masseria and Maranzano, to the 70s with all the drugs, up to the 90s with the mob's decline and a recruitment pool of coked out youngsters.

Re: Upcoming Five Families TV-Series - 07/05/14 12:37 AM

Still in development. I say by 2015 it will be airing. They have been talking about this for roughly two years and only at the begining of this year have they said that it is in development, so I think at least 2015, maybe later this year even. Hard to say with these networks, projects come and go and some never get off the ground.
