Mob killer- Charles Carneglia

Who else is getting completely excited for this book!? Can't wait for the release date. I only hope they release a hardcover as well. Tony DeStefano is a great writer and this topic should make for a great read.

I am also excited about this book, hope its another one that i can't put down like The Ice Man, that book i couldnt put down, it went everywhere with me. I've got Mob-Killer Rampage on my wishlist on amazon. damn, my wishlist is getting so long lol.

Most mob biographies aren't worth the paper they're printed on. But the author of this book is Anthony DeStefano, who wrote the outstanding "King of the Godfathers," the Joe Massino bio. I'm definitely ready for this one.

I picked it up Saturday night and just finished it.

DeStefano is a truly gifted writer. He was able to display that there is plenty of gray area in even the most horrific personality. Carneglia's actions (like keeping souvenirs from his victims, as if he was an unsub on an episode of "Criminal Minds") are some of the most shocking you'll ever read. They're right up there with anything the DeMeo crew ever pulled. But he's able to display some humanity in the man without coming off like a mob groupie (he was good to his mother and little kids, etc.).

In other words, DeStefano writes that Carneglia deserves to live out his days in prison, but he did have a decent side to him, and, to DeStefano's credit, he wasn't afraid to write about it. There's also plenty of stuff about Junior Gotti's crew during the '90s, after Senior went to prison. To my knowledge, it's the first book to really touch on the subject. You know that if Mikey Scars or John Alite ever write a book it's going to be filled with utter bullshit. This one has the ring of truth to it.

In short, it's thoroughly researched and well written. DeStefano should be covering the mob for one of the major New York outlets.

Bonus: At the straight-to-paperback price of $6.99, it won't set you back at all.

DeStefano is a great writer, I wish he wrote something on Sonny Franzese or the Chin or somebody like that... I will def be picking this one up

The actions of the DeMeo crew take some beating.
If Carneglia had been from Canarsie instead of East New York he may well have ended up at the Gemini - he would have fitted in pretty well there!!

But you're right, Carneglia would have been right at home in the back room of the Gemini. Sick bastard that he is.

I couldn't help but laugh at the idea of Carneglia dropping a finger bone in Ruggeiro's soup.

Charlie Carneglia may not have been the most famous gangster in New York but he was very strange. The soup bone story is just one of many in the book Mob Killer which show how eccentric and cruel he could be. Alot of mobsters didn't like him because of his drinking and erratic unpredicatable nature. But with his brother being John and his reputation as a killer for the late John Gotti he was protected for longer than he might have been had he not had those allies.

Perfect description of the guy, especially in describing his longetivity. If it weren't for John, Charlie probably wouldn't have survived the '80s. People often protect their troublesome siblings in all walks of life, not just in the mob.

Any new insights into the Castellano hit? IIRC, Carneglia was one of the shooters wasn't he?

I read that Charles had a friend who had a "problem", so he asked Charlie for some advice - not someone you would usually turn to for advice but a friends a friend - so charlie tells him "we'll plant a piece in the guys car, then call the cops and say some maniac is driving crazy and waving a gun at you out of the window, so the guy gets pulled over and they find the gun - not the end of the world right?, well not until they find a dead guy in the trunk with 2 bullets in his brain - which matches the gun found in the car - end of the "problem", his friend says "Ya know - thanks charlie but no thanks" .........
