"King of the Godfathers"-book - 04/14/10 12:54 PM

"King of the Godfathers" "Big Joey" Massino and the fall of the Bonanno crime family.330 pgs.
Has anyone read this book written in 2008.
A friend of mine just gave me a copy for my collection he obtained.
I am only about 50 pages in and it has alot of good info especially on other gangsters, crimes,LCN families,Pics, etc but the thing that pisses me off-king of the Godfathers?NO FREAKIN WAY-This guy is a freakin Rat and i dont care who he killed, pushed the button on,etc.Hes a rat and that takes him out of the running for King.Gotti,Persico there doing/did there time like your suppost to.Maybe Carlo Gambino,Vito Genovese,Jack Tocco,Charles"Lucky"Luciano but not a canary like Massino.
I will read it though as it probably pertains info i havent read about, etc.

I think the book was previously published as "The Last Godfather". I read it and I know other members have as well. There's probably a review around here somewhere.

I think the title , whether it is "King" or "Last" is probably meant to be somewhat sardonic/insulting as in 'look how far these folks have fallen'. And of course the author/publisher just want to sell books..

Very good, very informative book. I read it when it was first published as "The Last Godfather," and recommended it to Turnbull. He enjoyed it, as well. I'm sure he reviewed it but I'm not sure what thread it's in.

The "King" of the Godfathers would have to be Carlo Gambino I think.

Carmine Persico seems a good boss too, he's been the main Colombo man since about the late 70's

This was an excellent book, one of the few mob bios that was actually accurate, well researched and written. That said, Massino turned rat--after everyone else around him turned rat.

Yes it says on the bottom cover:Updated with new revelations.Dont see anything about a title change but that could be also.?
Some gruesome pics of Sonny Black,Alphonse Indelicato,Anthony Mirra, etc.
How did Joe Massino get such a Beautiful wife? She still had looks in some of the most recent pics ive seen.
Is the Casablanca building still standin?

I like Carlo Gambino the best as far as NEW YORK Bosses. He had a great long storied career, etc.
Got to ride with Joe " Uno" Zirelli and Current Boss Jack Tocco of the Detroit LCN as my favorite stand up Mobster Bosses as they have both had long storied careers also and Jack Toccos is still going.

Is that an excuse? With His $$ he should have got the best attorney he could and fought that shit.Gotti jr. continued fighting his cases without squealin and he has said he quit the life 10+ years ago and he still stood up for the oath he took.
I thought Massino started recording Acting Boss Vinny Gorgeous while Massino was attempting to become a goverment witness in lock up?
Did Vinny become a Cooperating witness for the Feds?
Vinny wasnt cooperating before Massino if he did.?
