Obviously because they also "sampled" or took guitar riffs from other "not so known" bands from the 80s., and made it sound more powerful. Dre did similar stuff.

When discussing some of the most underrated pieces of his catalogue, Richards singled out the 1997 record Bridges to Babylon as a personal favourite, telling Much Music: “This one is the first one since maybe the early ’80s, late ’70s where it’s taken another step. (That) is actually pushing some boundaries again, for better or worst. I knew from the songs that we had a good album”.

Scorsese used the song four times. ‘Gimme Shelter’ is utilised in Mean Streets, his blistering Harvey Keitel film, in Goodfellas as the world around Henry Hill begins to crumble, in Casino the song soundtracks the spilling of blood and finally in 2006’s The Departed it acts as the perfect way to introduce the demented character of Frank Costello.

Mannish Boy was such an important song for that movie. People don't realize how important music is when it comes to filmmaking. Muddy Waters was the man btw!

“La Raza” is likely the first time a rapper talked so proudly about his Mexican heritage with a song that became part of the pantheon of great West Coast jams. The fact that he often faced Ice-T in freestyle battles and counts Dr. Dre and Yella as his first DJs make him a definitive part of gangsta rap history.

Yes similar to Top of the Pops (TOTP), Countdown was on-the-air for 16 years (1977-1993).

REST IN POWER Aston "Family Man" Barrett (November 22, 1946 - February 3, 2024)
Bass Player (magazine): Perhaps no music evokes the notion of bass and bass tone like reggae and dub, and no two words are more synonymous with those plucking practices than Family Man.[21]
Ali Campbell (UB40 frontman): There was bluebeat, rocksteady and ska. That all happened before reggae, which kind of happened in about '69, you know, when reggae as we know it was invented by the Barrett brothers, I'd say.[22]
John Lennon (The Beatles, discussing his plans for a comeback album in early 1980 while listening to the Bob Marley & The Wailers album Burnin'): In fact, if they really wanted the right sound, they should go to Jamaica! Go to the same studio that Bob Marley used! Get down with the Rasta men and smoke ganja in big spliffs or hash in chillums. Then they could get that deep-down, super funky, bass-box sound that comes from Trenchtown. You couldn't get that sound in New York. No way![23]
Ziggy Marley (Bob Marley's oldest son): I think the drum and bass, they are a very important part in Bob music. It was, you know, Family Man and Carlton, two brothers. They have their own style.[24]
Keith Richards (The Rolling Stones): The first time the Wailers went to England, soon after this, I caught them by chance up in Tottenham Court Road. I thought they were pretty feeble compared to what I'd been hearing in Steer Town. But they certainly got their act together real quick. Family Man joined in on the bass, and Bob obviously had all of the stuff required.[25]
Robbie Shakespeare (Sly & Robbie, who has been estimated to have played bass on 200,000 tracks[26]): Well ... what can I say? He is the man (laughter). Just the way the man plays the bass, you know. There are gun fighters and there are gun fighters, seen? I can't tell you nothing more. He is a master for me. I have had help and influences from other people, but I have to give it mostly to Family Man.[27]

I agree H. Music can make a scene or film so much more enjoyable. Quentin Tarantino and Martin Scorsese are my favorite directors and their use of music is second to none and has influenced me and expanded my tastes in music in so many ways.

That's right H!! Straight outta Los Angeles, she was one of the first blue-eyed soul (also called white soul) singers. They called her "the little girl with the big voice". She was greatly influenced by Dinah Washington, another gem of an artist who used to call herself the "the Queen of the Blues". Ironically, Dinah was more of a jazz vocalist, though. And even though she died very young, she left behind an impressive legacy and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, a feat that Yuro never accomplished

"Sì" ("Yes") served as the Italian entry for the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974, ultimately securing the second position, trailing behind the Swedish entry "Waterloo" performed by ABBA.

No need to feel bad about it lol. The Dutch are usually on point when it comes to producing good music.
Long live the great people of Israel! Long live the great people of Iceland!
I'm not hating on the kid. He's actually gay. Can you be gay in Gaza? I don't think so lol. The sad thing is that his song was the best by fucking far, but he went about it all wrong. I'm so proud of Iceland though for standing up. Wesssssssiiiiiiiide!!!!
Re: What song are you listening to at the moment (2) - 03/02/2411:18 PM
As horrible as some of those Eurovision songs can be, the truth is that this contest has also birthed some masterpieces. And Måneskin are some bad motherfuckers!!
Re: What song are you listening to at the moment (2) - 03/03/2401:34 AM
Måneskin were the best this millenium. I believe Europapa does have hit-potential and it already has been streamed millions of times on spotify and youtube. It helps if you have a big 'tiktok' fanbase, but we have to see how the performance on stage looks like.

The show is amazing in case you haven't seen it. This is one of the few (if only) that has gone back and actually done an existing IP by rebooting it, allowing fans who grew up with it to return to the beloved characters while appealing to a new generation as well. Sad this next season will be the last but I'd rather it go out on top rather than overstay its welcome.

Both didn't have the huge succes of ABBA ofcourse but still good songs. Frida's biggest hit was this one. Produced by Phil Collins, which you can cleary hear.

RIP Def Rhymz !
Nederhop is the umbrella term for a musical style from the Netherlands, which is based on American hip hop music . The music mainly consists of Dutch rap .
Although the first Dutch rappers usually wrote in the English language, this started to change when Osdorp Posse gained a large fan base. They were the first to record and release hip hop in the Dutch language, were the first to perform for large audiences and were the first to reach the charts with their albums.
In 1995, the same year that Osdorp Posse had a top 20 success with their album Afslag Osdorp , rapper Extince was the first Dutch rap artist to achieve a top 10 hit in the singles charts with Spraakwater .
Rapper Def Rhymz was the first rapper with number 1 hits such as Doekoe and Schudden, with a more pop, R&B and dance-oriented sound, Dutch hip hop has become the most popular storm of mainstream pop music in the Netherlands in the 21st century.
In 2024, the Dutch music streaming charts are dominated by Dutch-language rap artists such as Boef, Josylvio, Broederliefde, Lil' Kleine, Snelle and Sevn Alias.

Mark Knopfler joins forces with more than 60 artists for charity, including Bruce Springsteen and Sting. Together they release a new version of Knopfler's Going Home: Theme Of The Local Hero.
The Dire Straits frontman invites a huge list of rock icons for this collaboration. Guitar greats such as Bruce Springsteen, Eric Clapton, Brian May, Slash and Ronnie Wood each contribute to the new version of Knopfler's 1983 hit, to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust. The song will be released on March 15.
Not just guitarists Although most of the artists are well-known guitarists, Knopfler also invites Ringo Starr and his son Zak Starkey for the drums, Sting for the bass guitar and The Who's Roger Daltrey for the harmonica. Other legends in the guitar lineup include Joan Jett, Eagles' Joe Walsh, The Who's Peter Townshend and TOTO's Steve Lukather.

Pulp Fiction is the sexy pick because it was nominated for so many Oscars. Honestly, Kill Bill is my favorite followed by Jackie Brown (that gets overlooked too IMO). I think a lot of people didn't like it because it wasn't Pulp Fiction 2 but still had a stellar cast and a killer soundtrack as always.
Re: What song are you listening to at the moment (2) - 04/07/2410:49 PM
Personally, I have trouble deciding which one is the best. My favorite one is and has always been Reservoir Dogs, but I think his most underrated movie is Jackie Brown
Re: What song are you listening to at the moment (2) - 04/07/2410:57 PM
Those of us who grew up on blaxploitation films have trouble overlooking Jackie Brown. It's such a nostalgic ride for me. Movies like Coffy, Super Fly, The Mack and Foxy Brown bring the memories

KARL KEATON Love’s Burn (dance mix) (6:28) American Singer living in Germany asked me to produce a ballad. Nevertheless I sneaked in the extra drums and the track became a cross-over hit between ballad and dance-track, radio and club-track. It received an award for best German production of 1991. Best GERMAN production, produced by Dutch Ben Liebrand. Go Figure!

Re: What song are you listening to at the moment (2) - 04/09/2410:38 PM
Not a flashy or pounding remix here, but a mix with the right sounds adding up to a warm feel supporting the composition. Difficult task. Well sounding end result.

One of Ben's best.
CULTURE BEAT Der Erdbeermund (get into magic mix) (8:09) It is the odd track that stands out! This absolutely goes for this track featuring a well known dude in Germany who recited this bit of poetry. And it worked.
Re: What song are you listening to at the moment (2) - 04/09/2410:56 PM
Nina Hagen was/is a Phenomenon ranging from cocky to headstrong. I believe she simply did what she liked and this track is all about her view of New York and it's people. The remix features heavy Hip Hop beats and transformer effects. It was re-edited from the digitally recorded mix-down sections where I discovered an extra bit of acappella that you now find added as a bonus.
Re: What song are you listening to at the moment (2) - 04/09/2411:05 PM
Done in 1984 this was basically turning a 7" version into a 12" version by splicing in Instrumental parts and bits that where mixed down extra called out-takes. The resulting 12" was Fox The Fox's biggest hit selling more copies of the 12" version in germany than Michael did of his 12" of Thriller. Not Bad!

A lot of people don't realize that Axl has a vocal range of 5 octaves and 5 semitones, from F1 to Bb6. Compared to almost every other singer on the planet, this is extraordinary, higher than Whitney, Tina, Mariah, Freddy, and so on. In my opinion, Axl was the very best front man ever.

ON THIS DAY IN 1965 TODAY: THE RIFF FROM SATISFACTION
In the night of May 6 to 7, 1965, Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones came up with the riff for (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction. The band is currently on an American tour and is sleeping in a hotel in Clearwater, Florida. According to Richards, he woke up at night with the riff in his head. He gets up, records it and then goes back to sleep. Later that day, he and Mick Jagger finish the song. The text is about the commercialization of society that Jagger encounters in America.

Sugar Daddy is the most popular hit in the Dutch Top 40 this week. The differences remain small at the top of the List of Lists.
A fourth week at number 1 means that Roxy Dekker manages to match the previous performances of Lisa Loïs and Anouk this week. Ten Dutch women were at number 1 for longer and Davina Michelle, with 18 weeks in first place, is the record holder.

Isn't that great Clapton, Gilmour, Knopfler, Deep Purple, Marillion etc.. still making good records and don't forget the 80s artist like Madness, Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys, OMD, Simple Minds lol..
