The 2022 Dead Pool

The 2022 Dead Pool (Our 15th Annual!)

GOAL: Predict which notable* figures will die on/between January 1 and December 31, 2022, Eastern Time.

Produce a maximum of 50 names, to be PM'ed to me (NOT posted here) before the ball drops in Times Square (NYC) at midnight on New Years (i.e., 12AM ET, January 1, 2022). The BB's default timestamp will determine entry time, but I often post after midnight so the west coast has a little extra time.

*It's assumed that all notable figures will have an entry, or be mentioned in an entry, at Google, Wikipedia or another legit source which you may have to prove.

Rules:

1) PLEASE alphabetize your list of 50 names by LAST name (regardless of profession), either in the form of FIRSTNAME LASTNAME -or- LASTNAME, FIRSTNAME, in *1* column of names.

2) If it's not obvious who the person is for most people, after the name please add why they're notable. For example: "Douglas Fraser, trade unionist" (Sorry, he's already dead). In addition, you may or may not choose to include the person's current age; for example: "Douglas Fraser, trade unionist (91)"

3) If you submit your list days before Midnight, January 1st, 2022, and someone on your list dies before 2022, you should substitute the person with another and resubmit your list (by the deadline). If you do not resubmit your list, and the person died in 2021, the person will obviously NOT count for 2022.

4) a) Thou Shalt Not Kill (anyone on your list); b) criminals subject to the Death Penalty or anyone kidnapped or held hostage in 2021 won't count -- unless they die of natural causes; c) "Dead" means permanently dead, not later revived, nor put in animated suspension, or any induced or natural coma starting before 2022 begins; d) do not edit Wikipedia with false death information.

Everyone's lists will be updated unofficially throughout the year, but year-end audits should be performed to determine the final winner sometime shortly after December 31, 2022. YOU are responsible for your own audit at years' end.

A native of Dallas, Aday was the son of a school teacher who raised him on her own after divorcing his alcoholic father, a police officer. Aday was singing and acting in high school (Mick Jagger was an early favorite, so was Ethel Merman) and attended Lubbock Christian College and what is now the University of North Texas. Among his more notable childhood memories: Seeing John F. Kennedy arrive at Love Field in Dallas on Nov. 22, 1963, then learning the president had been assassinated and driving to Parkland Hospital and watching a bloodied Jackie Kennedy step out of a car.

Marvin Lee Aday was born in Dallas, Texas, on Sept. 27, 1947. He was a chunky baby, and he claimed his father named him “Meat” when he was just four days old. His father was also a violent alcoholic that regularly beat him, and things at school weren’t much better since his large size caused the kids to mercilessly tease him. Things turned around in high school when his stature proved to be an asset on the football team. He also discovered he suddenly had a three-and-a-half-octave vocal range his sophomore year after a 12-pound shot landed on his head during a track and field event. (For the rest of his life, he believed the accident somehow created his singing voice.)

So far this has been a bad year.

Sad to report, former child actor Peter Robbins, who was the original voice of Charlie Brown in "A Charlie Brown Christmas" and other cartoons took his own life sometime last week at age 65.

From what I've read on the Net, he had a very troubled life. Bi-polar disorder, incarceration, and things like that. I hope he is at peace.

Agarn and Paulie Walnuts...

Old timers here would recall that I met Tony Sirico and a few other Sopranos actors back in 2007: We got to get a photo with them and Tony Sirico ("Paulie Walnuts") was smiling for the camera. Dean Caswell, one of the last Marine fighter pilot aces of World War II, died at his Austin home Wednesday. He was 100.

Caswell enlisted in the Marine Corps in September 1942 and served in combat three times in three decades: in the Pacific theater of World War II in the 1940s, the Korean War in the early ?50s and the Vietnam War in the ?60s. Caswell was born in California and moved to Edinburg in 1922 so his parents could work as entomologists in the Rio Grande Valley. He made butter and ice cream at a creamery for $35 a week before he applied for flight training with the Navy in 1941.

He hitchhiked to Los Angeles just two weeks before Japanese carrier pilots attacked American forces at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
