2019 Dead Pool

2019 Dead Pool - 12/25/18 07:47 PM

The 2019 Dead Pool

GOAL: Predict which notable* figures will die on/between January 1 and December 31, 2019, Eastern Time.

Produce a maximum of 50 names, to be PM'ed to me (NOT posted here) before the ball drops in Times Square (NYC) at midnight on New Years (i.e., 12AM ET, January 1, 2019). The BB's default timestamp will determine entry time, but I often post after midnight so the west coast has a little extra time.

*It's assumed that all notable figures will have an entry, or be mentioned in an entry, at Google, Wikipedia or another legit source which you may have to prove.

Rules:

1) PLEASE alphabetize your list of 50 names by LAST name (regardless of profession), either in the form of FIRSTNAME LASTNAME -or- LASTNAME, FIRSTNAME, in *1* column of names.

2) If it's not obvious who the person is for most people, after the name please add why they're notable. For example: "Douglas Fraser, trade unionist" (Sorry, he's already dead). In addition, you may or may not choose to include the person's current age; for example: "Douglas Fraser, trade unionist (91)"

3) If you submit your list days before Midnight, January 1st, 2019, and someone on your list dies before 2019, you should substitute the person with another and resubmit your list (by the deadline). If you do not resubmit your list, and the person died in 2018, the person will obviously NOT count for 2019.

4) a) Thou Shalt Not Kill (anyone on your list); b) criminals subject to the Death Penalty or anyone kidnapped or held hostage in 2018 won't count -- unless they die of natural causes; c) "Dead" means permanently dead, not later revived, nor put in animated suspension, or any induced or natural coma starting before 2019 begins; d) do not edit Wikipedia with false death information.

Everyone's lists will be updated unofficially throughout the year, but year-end audits should be performed to determine the final winner sometime shortly after December 31, 2019. YOU are responsible for your own audit at years' end.

(The next post will contain all participants' lists for easy reference, sometime on Jan 1st)

I just saw that. I would not have known/remembered his name. He was always "The Captain." I wasn't aware that they divorced either. Tho I never had any of their music, I didn't mind their songs. they were quite popular back in the day. RIP Captain frown

I knew him as Super Dave and he was hilarious as a policeman on Liberace's show and during his daring stunts that never went right.

Wow, the new year brought in the Reaper quick.

Super Dave was hysterical.

THE captain looked old back then.

Re: 2019 Dead Pool - 01/03/19 01:11 AM

The famous studio complex, Rumbo Recorders was built by The Captain and when not used by Tennille and himself was the place where many legendary records were created. Probably the most famous being Appetite for Destruction from Guns N Roses. Looking over the list of artists that worked at Rumbo it's interesting to see a studio built by a mellow, pop performer had quite the following among some fairly heavy musicians.

Paula Abdul, All-4-One, Bad Religion, Belinda Carlisle, The Captain & Tennille, Matt Catingub, Damn Yankees, Ronnie James Dio, Celine Dion, Sheena Easton, Firehouse, Getting Red, Guns N' Roses, Beth Hart Band, Corey Hart, Heart, Bruce Hornsby, I Mother Earth, Kiss, Michael Landau, Lynch Mob, Jeff Lynn, Barry Manilow, Kathy Mattea, Megadeth, John Cougar Mellencamp, Eddie Money, Mr Big, Vince Neil, Never The Bride, Stevie Nicks, No Doubt, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers, Poison, Rage Against The Machine, The Rembrandts, Kenny Rogers, Michael Shenker, Diane Shuur, Slash's Snakepit, Smashing Pumpkins, Spinal Tap, Ringo Starr, Stone Temple Pilots, Take 6, Toni Tennille, John Tesh, Thunder, UFO

Very cool, Dio.

Sheena Easton is surprising since I thought Prince produced all her music and performances in his own studios.
I think their may be a story where he lured her from this studio mentioned to his.

Re: 2019 Dead Pool - 01/05/19 08:20 PM

I'll second you on Dio. He and wife Wendy were/are two of the nicest "show biz" folks I had the pleasure of meeting and working with back when I was in management/PR.

Do you mean Shiela E? Both worked with Prince extensively and had already launched careers prior to collaborating with him. Of the two Sheena had more hits under her belt before working with Prince and mostly co-wrote w/ him. Shiela E had more of a mentor/protege arrangement and was signed to his Paisley Park label.

I remember a few years ago when I thought I was the first to announce Jean Stapleton passing away only to find out she died 3 years earlier. It's funny, and a little ghoulish, that my first thought when a celebrity passes away is whether or not I have them on my list, and if I did, is it one of the unique ones. A few years ago the whole Zsa Zsa Gabor thing was very anti-climatic since everyone had her.

I understand your position Hood however, death is handled differently throughout the world and the ages.

Death is something that everyone will be a participant of and can be dealt with any way you like.
Death was good enough for my Da and My Dog, I will be good enough to greet it and treat it like any other natural event in Life.

Most of the people on the Lists are people who screamed for attention in Life, why should they not receive it in Death as well.

I like the idea of Laughing in The Face of Death.

Have the soundtrack to the movie as well Does anybody remember The Wild Angels? Had that soundtrack too. 😄 Oh yea and there was The Trip. Probably before most of your time 😂 It was popular at the time but now it’s really dated I couldn’t sit and watch it again. Anyway very sorry to hear that news RIP Peter Fonda.

Some Board members may be old enough to have watched her show Rhoda. If so, recall that it was on opposite Monday Night Football and was so popular that it gave Football a run for its money especially the Rhoda's Wedding episode. In fact, even Howard Cosell welcomed those viewers back to football who had tuned out to watch the wedding.

https://www.cinemablend.com/news/2486682/do-the-right-thing-actor-danny-aiello-has-died-at-86

It seems we're in the middle of one of those periods of time where we're apparently just going to lose one great star after another. It's only been a few days since we lost Rene Auberjonois and Big Bird performer Caroll Spinney on the same day, and now, news has come that we've lost another valuable actor. Academy Award nominee Danny Aiello has died at the age of 86.Danny Aiello racked up more than 100 acting credits in a career that spanned more than 40 years. He made his debut in 1973's Bang the Drum Slowly, which was followed up in short order with the role of Tomny Rosato in The Godfather: Part II.

Aiello would frequently play Italian mobsters in his roles forever after, but over his long career he still had opportunities to do more. He had roles in Once Upon a Time in America, The Purple Rose of Cairo, and Moonstruck. He played Madonna's father in her "Papa Don't Preach" music video. The man basically had every sort of role under the sun at one time or another.
Posted By: Moe_Tilden

Re: 2019 Dead Pool - 12/13/19 07:33 PM

I thought Aiello was good as Tim Robbins's guardian angel in Jacob's Ladder. Creepy movie.

He also played a mobster in a memorable episode of the 80s horror anthology, Tales from the Darkside.

Been a while since I saw Do the Right Thing.

I'm going to stress this again, because I just went thru SC's list for 2019 and discovered that one of his (Richard Overton, 112) actually died a year ago, in 2018 -- had he realized it then, his total would've been 14 to tie Mig's 14. I never did come up with a tie-breaker as it had never happened. I suppose there'd be no tie-breaker, just co-winners. As for 2019, SC is currently tied with Don Marco with just a few days to go....

A quick way to check your names is -- on a desktop computer -- to highlight the name, right-click, and click "Search Google" in the menu. On the right side of the page it'll show dates for Born and (if applicable) Died....
