Crime Rate v Raw Numbers - 06/20/17 04:32 PM

According to 2016 data from NOPD, there were approximately 520 shooting incidents in New Orleans last year - or roughly 133 incidents per 100,000 residents. The count includes only instances in which someone was hit by a bullet, not every time a gun was fired.

That's a higher rate than in Chicago, which tallied a gruesome 3,550 shooting incidents last year. With a population seven times larger than New Orleans, Chicago had a rate of 130 shootings per 100,000 people.

Not exclusively comparing those 2 cities but in general. Should major funding go to cities with the higher rate before those with high incidents or reverse? Yall opinion?

I think if funding should go anywhere, it should go to those cities that are working on effective solutions and not partisan political talking points. Throwing money when the city governments are repeating the same mistakes of the past is the definition of insanity.

Yes. More efficient policing, not money, lowers crime rates.

chicago's crime rate is like sooo overblown. moast shootings in chicago are non-fatal. like, people getting shot in the arm or the foot. Southern cities like N.O., atlanta or birmingham al have the worst murder rates because their shootings are moar often fatal. those country people know how to shoot. everyone has a gun in the South, you can like just go to your local Ya'll-Mart store and buy one offthe shelves

The number of shootings report is more or less recent with most major cities outside the big 3, whose recording of shootings started in the 90s. Southern cities along with some Midwest ( St.Louis, Detroit, Milwaukee) , West ( Oakland , Las Vegas, Albuquerque) & Northeast ( Trenton, Philadelphia, Baltimore) have similar or higher rates as well. Southerners love they guns. 😊
