You make good points, but let's unconfuse two separate issues:

One is the US (or rather the CIA and others) tampering with governments and elections around the world,

The other is the US and Russia interfering or not interfering in each others elections and governments.

Two separate things.

Historically there has always been a tit for tat. Unfortunately Russia sees itself as America's counterbalance, it's equal. It isn't, not even militarily. But they behave as such.

What it seems like is that in the history of the cold war we just never tampered with the electoral process or government of the other side. Now Russia has crossed a line. You can't have diplomatic relations (negotiation) with someone who is trying to undermine your sovereignty. Negotiations only occur between sovereigns. So the diplomats had to go.

personally i'm in agreement with Cook and Gets, cops have always looked the other way for each other and will continue to do so until there are independent review boards with the power to actually make them pay. i also believe that when the cops lose a lawsuit that money should come from their union, not which ever city they work for.

there's an old case in Boston where an officer in plainclothes responding to an incident was mistaken for a suspect and beaten brutally, and even he faced intimidation from the department. if that's how they treat their own, you know a civilian, especially a poor civilian, doesn't stand a chance.

I think I know the case you're talking about. Undercover Black cop got shot in the subway years ago in NYC by uniformed cops.....under the same circumstances. I think the sort of police training that's given in the UK could be very useful in curtailing a lot of police abuse. One big area of concern for me is the treatment of the mentally ill and those with physical issues, from obesity to disability.

Eric Garner, who was clearly obese and had asthma, should never have been placed on the ground with a man on top of him putting pressure on his lungs and diminishing his ability to breathe. I firmly believe that this had more to do with his death than the officer choking him. The police get away with that because it's in their training, and as long as they follow policy, it's legal. The training is wrong, backward, outdated and dangerous.

Meanwhile, the officer who choked and put his weight on Garner's torso, Officer Daniel Pantaleo, was being supervised and every move watched by Sergeant Kizzy Adoni, who did nothing to intervene. She was the ranking officer, yet no charges were brought against her. This is the sort of thing that's a lot more common than the sadistic cop. Sadistic cops need to be fired, and if they commit crimes while wearing their badges, but in prison. The average cop, however, thinks he or she is doing the right thing as long as the policy is being followed. So to have a greater effect, there has to be more accounting for the policies.

OK from what I understand, the Ukraine was vulnerable to Russian aggression because they never joined NATO. That is the main issue. Everything else is secondary. The Ukraine not joining NATO is how they were played, not Obama. Obama was wise enough to see that even if a US president can, by American law, launch military attacks in the interest of American national security for limited periods of time, that time runs out and Congress must then deal with the aftermath. He was wise to go to Congress and request backing. He didn't get the backing. It was the US Congress that backed away from Assad and allowed Putin to move troops in. That's really all there is to it. The Republicans in Congress wouldn't back Obama, not even in war, not even in a war that was supposedly in America's self interest. So they allowed Putin and Assad to unite and strut.

Trump is REALLY reaching with the phone tap allegations. I think Obama did play dirty politics and set Trump and his team up in several ways. Donald Trump’s campaign is still trembling from its shakeup this week.

Trump on Friday announced that campaign Chairman Paul Manafort had resigned, two days after the Republican nominee put in place a new leadership structure that appeared to minimize Manafort’s role.

Manafort had increasingly come under fire over his past lobbying work for pro-Russian Ukrainian oligarchs — which was fundamentally at odds with Trump’s boasts about being free from moneyed interests — and for the sloppy nature of the Republican National Convention, which Manafort oversaw.

“This morning Paul Manafort offered, and I accepted, his resignation from the campaign,” Trump said in a statement. “I am very appreciative for his great work in helping to get us where we are today, and in particular his work guiding us through the delegate and convention process. Paul is a true professional and I wish him the greatest success.”

In recent days, Manafort had lost the confidence of Jared Kushner, Trump's son-in-law and one of his closest advisers, and other members of Trump’s family, according to a source close to the campaign. Kushner had once been a major backer of Manafort and was instrumental in his elevation — and the downfall of Corey Lewandowski, Trump's former campaign manager.

The family was particularly troubled by reports of Manafort's involvement with Russia and felt he hadn’t been entirely forthright about his activities overseas, the source said. Family members were also unhappy about changes made to the GOP platform that were seen as beneficial to Russia, which they felt Manafort played a role in, the source added.

Manafort was also wary about his increasing scrutiny becoming a distraction, according to a senior Trump aide, echoing a point one of Trump’s sons acknowledged Friday.

“I think my father didn’t want to be, you know, distracted by, you know, whatever things Paul was dealing with,” Eric Trump said, according to an excerpt of an interview set to air on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures.”

Eric Trump called Manafort’s work through the primary “amazing” and praised him for getting the campaign through the convention.

“Now you look at Kellyanne [Conway] and some of the other people that we’re bringing in, and they’re absolutely fantastic, and I think they’re going to be the ones that bring us all the way through November 8th and ultimately get us the victory,” Eric Trump continued. “But again, my father just didn’t want to have the distraction looming over the campaign and, quite frankly, looming over all the issues that Hillary’s facing right now.”

The departure could help consolidate the power of Conway, who was promoted earlier this week to campaign manager and is credited with urging Trump to offer “regret” for his past offensive comments, and Breitbart executive Stephen Bannon, who was brought on as campaign CEO.

But the news is also overshadowing Trump’s reboot. The Republican nominee made a presidential-style trip to flood-ravaged Louisiana on Friday with his running mate, Mike Pence, and the campaign rolled out its first television ads of the general election.

And there are signs that the early shakeup may not have gone entirely smoothly. On Wednesday evening, according to two sources close to the campaign, Trump aides determined that their first TV ad would be focused on an economic message. But on early Thursday morning, the staff got word that the plans were changing. Instead, the commercial would have a tough-on-immigration message.

The move caught some aides by surprise and led them to believe that a small group of staffers — and perhaps Trump himself — had made the decision.

Some staffers said they were surprised by Manafort's exit and that they had learned of it from news reports. As of late Friday morning, there had been no staff conference call to inform them of the move.

Charlie Black, a longtime friend and business associate of Manafort's, said he didn't think the departure of a seasoned GOP operative would hinder the campaign's ability to function.

"Paul is my friend, but Paul has never managed a campaign before, either," he said. "Kellyanne is very good, very bright. I have confidence in her."

Lewandowski, who lost in a power struggle with Manafort, said the news showed that the Republican nominee is serious about his mission to win the White House.

“The most important thing is this is a reminder to me and to the American public that Donald Trump will do anything it takes to win,” Lewandowski said on CNN, where he is a paid contributor.

Although Manafort is out, his longtime deputy, Rick Gates, will take over as the Trump campaign's liaison to the Republican National Committee, senior communications adviser Jason Miller tweeted Friday afternoon.

Hillary Clinton's campaign seized on Manafort's departure as a chance to hammer Trump for his repeated overtures to Russian President Vladimir Putin, which they have characterized as dangerous. "You can get rid of Manafort, but that doesn't end the odd bromance Trump has with Putin," Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook said in a statement.

Manafort joined Trump’s operation in late March to lead its delegate effort ahead of the convention. His hire came just as Trump was in the midst of one of the roughest stretches of the primary, as Ted Cruz was playing the inside political game to win delegate contests and some key states, including Wisconsin.

Manafort, an elder statesman on a campaign that had lacked such a figure, soon won the trust of Trump as a political fixer, particularly among the party elites. He traveled to the Republican National Committee’s spring meeting in April pressing Trump’s case and insisting he would evolve as the nominee.

But leaked audio from the meeting, in which Manafort said Trump was simply playing “a part,” damaged his fresh relationship with Trump just as he was tussling internally for power with Lewandowski, whose motto was “Let Trump be Trump.”

By late May, Manafort was clearly on the rise, as he had been promoted to campaign chairman and became a key coordinator with the Republican National Committee after Trump became the presumptive nominee.

For the next month, Manafort and Lewandowski butted heads — over hiring, strategy and credit for Trump’s success. Tensions were so bad that there were reports of fears that the Trump headquarters was bugged. “Do I believe it? No, I don’t believe it,” Manafort said on ABC in late May, adding, “But I don’t know who said that.”

In late June, following a meeting with his adult children, Trump fired Lewandowski, and Manafort emerged as the main power center on the campaign. Despite his persistence, Manafort failed to convert the bombastic political outsider into the kind of presidential candidate Republican leaders had been wanting to see.

At the Republican National Convention, when it was discovered that Trump's wife, Melania, had plagiarized portions of her speech, Lewandowski seized on the chance to poke at his old rival, saying on CNN “the buck stopped with me” when he ran the campaign.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- A week after Jewish institutions across the country received dozens of anti-Semitic threats, the state Senate passed a package of bills from the Independent Democratic Conference (IDC) aimed at cracking down on hate crimes.

The first bill was sponsored by IDC member Sen. David Carlucci (D-Rockland) and creates a hate crime offense for graffiti that targets a person's race, color, national origin, ancestry, gender, religion, religious practice, age, disability or sexual orientation.

There is a bill in the Assembly matching Klein's bill regarding damaging houses of worship or cemeteries, but it has not yet been voted on.

The other bills don't have matching bills in the Assembly.

Mayor Bill de Blasio visited the Sea View JCC on Staten Island Tuesday to denounce anti-Semitism, holding a closed-door meeting with NYPD Commissioner James O'Neill, elected officials and Jewish leaders, speaking to the press afterward.

As they were meeting, more threats were made to the Anti-Defamation League in Manhattan and nationwide.

The Sea View JCC was one of more than 30 all over the country that received bomb threats over the phone last week.

When it comes to issues related to health, state Rep. Jessica Farrar says that men should have to undergo the same “unnecessary” and “invasive” procedures that she says Texas women are subjected to under recently passed state laws.

That’s why the the Houston Democrat on Friday filed House Bill 4260, which would fine men $100 for masturbating. In proposing a fine for masturbation, Farrar says that if a man’s semen is not used to create a pregnancy, “then it’s a waste ... because that semen can be used — and is to be used — for creating more human life.”

Gets, that's a tough one that I can't answer, even with a guess. One hoax is one hoax too many. Many of these crimes only make local news, and often when they do make national news, if they're discovered to be a hoax and that hoax goes against their narrative, the correction will be barely mentioned at all.

Today I was reading about some teen, I think it was a 17-year-old girl, who lied about being raped so a guy she liked would feel sorry for her. That was a hoax, but not a racial hoax.

I think when it comes to racial hoaxes, they usually fall into two categories. The first is people who use race to cover up for serious crimes, like Susan Smith, who blamed a black men for the murder of her baby, which she committed. The second type is the professional victim or SJW crime, like the Duke lacrosse rape case, where everyone worked against the students because it fit a racial victim narrative.

There are several reasons why an individual Muslim might go on a killing spree. Islam depends on the mercy of Allah for salvation. There's no guarantee unless one dies in jihad. So if you're a Muslim who converts from Islam to become a Christian or an atheist, any Muslim can come after you to kill you. I personally know someone in the Philippines who left Islam to become a Christian, and she had to flee her home and stay in hiding. Her own brothers (who are police officers) want to kill her. (Some of the Philippine islands closer to Malaysia are Muslim-dominated, and some even have their own ISIS group called Abu Sayyaf.) A majority of Muslims in many Muslim countries believe this. I must ask what the full context is for the Koran verse. The reason is that, as I've alluded to before, there exist several verses from the Old Testament of the Bible that call for slaughter of non believers/enemies.

For example 1st Samuel 15:3

Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.

Now, this isn't a verse urging Christians to kill non Christians, but a story from the Old Testament specifically about a group that were enemies of the Hebrew people.

I have a few audio bibles and I've listened to the full version of whichever translation it was, and there are definitely examples of passages that detail the killing of non believers.Mostly in the Old Testament.
I guess it's about how one interprets the passage in full context.

One major difference between the OT verses and modern jihadism is that those commands were for a specific time and place. They were temporal and limited to the ancient Hebrews and early ancient Israel. In Islam, Muslims are told to follow the example of Muhammad. His example stands until the day of judgment. He's considered the ideal, the role model.

"Ye have indeed in the Messenger of Allah a beautiful pattern (of conduct) for any one whose hope is in Allah and the Final Day, and who engages much in the Praise of Allah." (Quran 33:21)

So from the Quran and Hadith we can gather that during the Meccan (Makka) period when Muhammad and his followers were a minority, he tried to avoid causing problems until he became vocal in condemning the other pagan gods. Then he got chased out and fled to Medina. There he increased his numbers and raided supply caravans meant for Mecca. Mecca depended on those supply caravans since it was a desert city, so those raids hurt it. Eventually, Muhammad grew an army and raided Mecca. After several battles, he conquered the city of his birth when it surrendered. (There is evidence that one of Muhammad's successors, Umar, changed a lot of the facts and that it wasn't really Mecca that Muhammad conquered, but Petra, but that's for another time.)

So in the Quran we find "peaceful verses" from the early Meccan period, and "violent verses" from the later Medinan period. So the principle that can be gathered from the verses is that when Islam is a small minority it may stay isolated and submit to the laws of the country that it's in. As it grows it can agitate and demand more rights. Ultimately the goal is to take over the country...and the world under a single caliph. For ISIS, its members believe that Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi is that caliph. I disagree with the author that ISIS is misinterpreting Islam. ISIS puts out a magazine that is free to download. In English. Anyone reading it can see that everything they do is justified by the Quran, the Hadith and the life of Muhammad. EVERYTHING. Since all these sources are also online and available for anyone to read, we can see for ourselves that they are NOT taking the verses out of context.

While in reality a global caliphate wouldn't work since there would always be fighting factions, etc., the point is that most Muslims have a belief in it as their ultimate goal. Even without a caliphate, non-Muslims in official Muslim countries suffer persecution. Often they live as dhimmis, official second-class citizens with few rights.

As to colonialism, which colonialism? Usually we think of Western colonialism, such as the UK, Germany, Belgium, etc. Even the USA. Certain a lot of evils were committed by colonialists. Sometimes they made things worse, but not always. Some good things that the Brits did was to end Sati, the ritual burning of spouses in India, and the ending of slavery. Most Americans are so ignorant on slavery that they think it ended in 1865. It didn't. It ended in most of the United States in 1865 (the Native American Five Civilized Tribes, such as the Cherokee and Choctow, didn't end slavery until 1870), but it continued in the rest of the world. Brazil didn't end it until 1888. Slavery wasn't criminalized in Niger until 2003. Slavery still exists in Somalia and Iraq, and when the Muslim Brotherhood ran Egypt in 2012, it brought back slavery. Slavery is allowed in Islam because Muhammad owned slaves.

Getting back to colonialism, I agree that sometimes European colonialism made things worse. But let's not forget that the Muslim conquests themselves were colonialism, and they didn't help anyone.

A French police officer was killed on Thursday and another left fighting for his life after an apparent terrorist shooting on the famous Champs Elysées avenue just days before the first round of the presidential election.

A gunman opened fire on police officers on the famous avenue in the west of Paris around 9pm on Thursday evening when the boulevard was packed with shoppers, restaurant goers and tourists.

Tourists visiting the National Mall in Washington D.C. in the summer can expect to occasionally see people on the street lugging coolers around and selling water.

Three teenagers, ranging in age from 16 and 17, were allegedly attempting to do just that before being handcuffed by plainclothes police officers Thursday afternoon.

Tim Krepp, a tour guide, took photos of the incident, which happened near the Washington Monument and posted them on Twitter. The post has since been retweeted more than 12,000 times as of Friday evening.

Krepp got in heated debates on Twitter with various users throughout the day arguing the arrest was racist since the teens were African-American.

"My kids sell water and everyone smiles at them. These kids do it and get arrested. It IS racist," Krepp tweeted.

A spokeswoman for the U.S. Park Police Sgt. Anna Rose, told U.S. News & World Report that the teens were detained for “illegally selling water” without a permit, and believed the whole situation “has gotten blown out of proportion.”

"Vending on the National Mall is illegal without a permit," Rose told U.S. News & World Report. "The National Park Service has a whole office dedicated to permitting."

The teens were held until their parents arrived. They were let off with a warning, according to WJLA.

Some Washington D.C. elected officials were concerned about the arrests.

After getting reports of the incident, D.C. Council member Charles Allen, a Democrat, sent a letter to the U.S. Park Police Chief.

"I can't help but think how the reaction by these same officers might have varied if different children had set up a quaint hand-painted lemonade stand on the same spot. While still the same violation of selling a beverage without proper permits and licenses, I doubt we would have seen little girls in pigtails handcuffed on the ground,” the letter read.

When I was a young kid, my Grandma (who was visiting) and I went with my Dad to take some things to the dump. He didn't really know the area that well because we were only in California for about six months. So, unknowingly, he dumped the stuff in a PRIVATE dump area. All of a sudden this cop comes down the road lights on, siren. The cop asks my Dad what he's doing on this private road. And my Dad tells him he didn't know it was a private dump. Then, the cop puts my Dad in handcuffs. My Grandma starts getting out of the car yelling at the cop. The cop told her to get back into the car. I thought she was going to hit him with her pocketbook lol. I could see that my Dad was getting aggravated but had to keep his mouth shut because the cop hated his kind, a New Jersey/New Yorker moving into California. Finally, the cop took the cuffs off and let him go. But, it's something that I'll remember my entire life. My Dad had to go to court. He told this story a million times. He said that he told the judge he's "guilty with an explanation". He paid the fine. Back then if you had an east coast accent especially what I call a CITY accent like my parents have, native Californias dislike you. They think you have an attitude when it's not that at all. You only speak up for yourself. They don't like that.

Black teenage woman, mistaken for machete-wielding black man, alleges police brutality

A black 19-year-old woman was punched in the mouth by an officer, bitten by a police K9 and arrested last month after an officer said he mistook her for a 180-pound bald man suspected of threatening people with a machete at a nearby grocery store.

Tatyana Hargrove’s story has been gaining attention this week after the NAACP's Bakersfield chapter released a Facebook video Monday morning recapping the incident, which it said was racially motivated.

It comes about six months after the group released a similar video alleging two black college students were roughed up similarly by Bakersfield Police Department officers without cause.

In the most recent video, Hargrove alleges that on June 18 she was walking home from Wooden Nickel Trading Company on Ming Avenue, where she had gone for a Father’s Day gift, when she was approached by an officer. He drew his gun as soon as he got out of his patrol car, she claims.

The result of the contact? An altercation that left Hargrove with scrapes, bruises, a punch to the mouth from one officer and a bite from a K9 released by another. During the course of her arrest, Hargrove said she feared for her life.

“He [the officer] put his other knee on my head, and I told him, ‘I can’t breathe, I can’t breathe’ and I started yelling out: 'Somebody help me, somebody help me, they’re going to kill me,’” Hargrove said in the video, which received more than 225,000 views in eight hours and attracted hundreds of comments expressing frustration and anger.

She declined to speak to The Californian through NAACP Bakersfield chapter President Patrick Jackson, who spoke on her behalf.

She was arrested on suspicion of resisting or delaying an officer and aggravated assault on an officer, according to BPD arrest records.

The NAACP says Hargrove was targeted for her race. BPD says it was a case of mistaken identity.

BPD Sgt. Ryan Kroeker wouldn’t comment on specific matters in the police report, but said that criminal charges have been filed against Hargrove and the case has been forwarded to the Kern County District Attorney’s office for review. The department has determined the force used was appropriate, and no internal investigation has been launched, Kroeker added.

‘DON’T LIE TO ME, THAT’S A GIRL’S NAME’

The arresting officer, Christopher Moore, said in a police report obtained by The Californian that he didn’t know Hargrove was a woman until after she was handcuffed.

He mistook her for a machete-wielding suspect who had come out of the Grocery Outlet Bargain Market on Ming and Ashe avenues after threatening several people, according to the report.

That man, who police identified as Douglas Washington before arresting him the next day, was described in multiple police reports from June 18 as a 25- to 30-year-old man, bald, about 170 pounds standing at 5 feet 10 inches. He was wearing a white t-shirt, dark jeans and a pink or red backpack that contained the machete.

When Moore found Hargrove behind the Grocery Outlet Bargain Market, the 115-pound teen, who stands 5 feet 2 inches, was wearing a baggy white shirt, blue jean shorts and a black hat. She was straddling a bicycle, a red and black backpack slung over her shoulder. In it were three cold water bottles, Hargrove said in her video. She had pulled over in the shade for a drink.

“She appeared to be a male and matched the description of the suspect that had brandished the machete and was also within the same complex the suspect had fled to,” Moore wrote in his report. He thought she had a weapon in her bag.

Moore, who patrols with a K9, pulled over, drew his sidearm and ordered Hargrove to put her hands in the air, according to the report.

Hargrove turned around and said: “What you all stopping another black person for. I’m out of here,” according to Moore’s report.

Jackson denied Hargrove ever spoke those words and disputes other parts of Moore’s report. The incident escalated when Moore asked to search Hargrove’s backpack, she said in the video. When she asked if he had a warrant, she claims, he gestured toward his K9 and then released the dog.

None of that is mentioned in the police report.

Instead, Moore wrote that Hargrove ignored police commands, placed her feet on her bike pedals and that it “appeared she was going to flee.”

It was around then that Officer G. Vasquez arrived. Moore told Hargrove she matched the description of a man who had just threatened people with a machete, and he ordered her again to get off her bike and put her hands up.

Hargrove’s response, according to Moore: “This isn’t happening. I’m leaving.”

The report doesn’t indicate that at any time Hargrove fled.

Moore retrieved his K9, Hamer. Moments later, Vasquez was handcuffing her when she spun her left shoulder into him, according to the report.

He was knocked off balance and fell to the ground, his legs tangled in the bicycle. Hargrove fell backward on top of him, then spun around into "a mounting position” astride the officer. Vasquez punched her in the mouth then pushed her off, but she got back on top, the report states.

Seeing that Hargrove was within arm’s reach of her backpack, which Moore still suspected contained a machete, he released his dog, his report states. She tried fighting him off, grabbing his muzzle.

“Let go of my dog,” Moore shouted. She thrashed back and forth, screamed obscenities and kicked at the officers as they subdued her, the report states.

Officers searched her and the backpack but found no weapons, according to the report.

Once Hargrove was in the backseat of the patrol car, Moore asked her name. “Tatyana,” she said.

“Don’t lie to me, that’s a girl’s name. What is your name?” Moore asked.

“I’m a girl, I just don’t dress like one,” she responded.

“This was when I first discovered she was a female,” Moore wrote in his report.

He wrote that when he brought Hargrove to Kern Medical Center, several nurses referred to Hargrove as a man, asking what “he” had done. Moore corrected them, saying she was a girl and the nurses “were surprised and apologized for the mistake.”

A SIMILAR ACCOUNT

Hargrove’s account is a familiar narrative. Just six months ago, the NAACP released a similar video featuring Timothy Grismore and Xavier Hines, two black college students who said they were taking a break from studying to get a late night meal at Taco Bell when they claim they were stopped by an unmarked BPD patrol car, roughed up, and arrested.

Police said at the time they suspected the two were illegally jaywalking. Kern County District Attorney Lisa Green declined to press charges and said police had no reason to contact the pair the night they were arrested.

Grismore and Hines have since retained an attorney at Chain Cohn Stiles and filed a civil suit against the department. Their trial is set for January 2019.

Neil Gehlawat, who is representing Grismore and Hines, said he’s seen Hargrove’s video and is appalled by the events, calling it “consistent with the culture and allegations” leveled previously against the department.

Jackson said it was positive proof of the BPD's pattern of targeting black people in that neighborhood. Hargrove’s incident occurred about a mile from where Grismore and Hines were arrested. It’s a neighborhood where police say they try to proactively curb violence among criminal street gangs.

“It’s becoming more and more of a pattern,” said Jackson, who alleges Hargrove was arrested for simply walking down the street. “She’s never been in trouble before, and all of a sudden you’re a heinous criminal in two seconds.”

He wants the Kern County District Attorney’s office to drop all charges against Hargrove, but more importantly, to bring public awareness of the inequality in policing
