GOAL: Predict which notable* figures will die on/between January 1 and December 31, 2017, Eastern Time.
Produce a maximum of 50 names, to be PM'ed to me (NOT posted here) before the ball drops in Times Square (NYC) at midnight on New Years (i.e., 12AM ET, January 1, 2017). The BB's default timestamp will determine entry time.
*It's assumed that all notable figures will have an entry, or be mentioned in an entry, at Google, Wikipedia or another legit source which you may have to prove.
Rules:
1) PLEASE alphabetize your list of 50 names by LAST name (regardless of profession), either in the form of FIRSTNAME LASTNAME -or- LASTNAME, FIRSTNAME, in *1* column of names.
2) If it's not obvious who the person is for most people, after the name please add why they're notable. For example: "Douglas Fraser, trade unionist" (Sorry, he's already dead). In addition, you may or may not choose to include the person's current age; for example: "Douglas Fraser, trade unionist (91)"
3) If you submit your list days before Midnight, January 1st, 2017, and someone on your list dies before 2017, you should substitute the person with another and resubmit your list (by the deadline). If you do not resubmit your list, and the person died in 2016, the person will obviously NOT count for 2017.
4) a) Thou Shalt Not Kill (anyone on your list); b) criminals subject to the Death Penalty or anyone kidnapped or held hostage in 2015 won't count -- unless they die of natural causes; c) "Dead" means permanently dead, not later revived, nor put in animated suspension, or any induced or natural coma starting before 2017 begins; d) do not edit Wikipedia with false death information.
Everyone's lists will be updated unofficially throughout the year, but year-end audits should be performed to determine the final winner sometime shortly after December 31, 2017. YOU are responsible for your own audit at years' end.

Okay, being that it's XDCX's birthday, he needs some extra time -- so I'll give it to him. And hopefully SC will get over his freak-out that he "killed" so many last year. And SV gets on the ball.
...so if any newbies want to get in, you still have some time to PM me your lists ASAP.
NOTE: Anyone who dies before the lists are made public WILL COUNT for the lists I already have, but NOT for those I don't have.
Franklin Roosevelt used to tell a story, with himself as the implied punchline:
A Fat Cat would approach the same news stand every morning, give the guy a dime, pick up a newspaper, and look at the front page. Then he'd put the paper back down and walk away. Finally after a year of this the news stand guy asked, "Why do you just glance at the paper every day and then walk away?"
The Fat Cat answered, "I'm only interested in the obituaries."
The news guy said, "Obituaries? But you never open the paper!"
The Fat Cat explained, "Believe me, the S.O.B. I'm looking for will be on Page 1."
We might have our first major death of 2017 soon. Charles Manson is reported to be gravely ill, and is currently at the hospital. Many have been looking forward to this.

Francine York died yesterday at 79. She wasn't as famous as some, she was a "guest starlet" in the 1960s and 1970s in the mold of The Godfather's Julie Gregg and Marianna Hill. She was on everything in that era from Perry Mason to Green Acres to The Odd Couple, and kept right on working until very recently:
The best wrestler I have seen was never in the wwf his name was Lou thiez still flying around he was in his mid 60s when I saw him at the beacon theather.
Actress Mary Tyler Moore died at 80. Didn't realize she was that far up there. A big part of my life growing up. "Dick Van Dyke Show" and "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" were regular viewing when I was a kid.
I have a personal note from Bob Newhart that my wife secured for me and I have an autographed picture of MTM that my wife also secured for me. I treasure that since I never missed the MTM Show.

Same here. What a shame But still surprised she was only on 2 DP lists.
Same. I would have figured that she was a high pick since she has been dealing with diabetes since her early 30's. From what I read before, she was going or gone blind.
I had her on my list a few years ago and took her off. I really enjoyed her work and still think that the "Chuckles the Clown" episode was one of the funniest shows I have ever seen. Saw her statue in Minneapolis a few years ago.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Mike Connors, who starred as a hard-hitting private eye on the long-running television series "Mannix," has died. He was 91.
The actor died surrounded by family Thursday afternoon at a Los Angeles hospital from complications of leukemia that had been diagnosed a week earlier, said his son-in-law, Mike Condon.
Wow! So many passing and it's only January. I liked Mannix and as a kid always remember watching Perry Mason and even later episodes when it returned in the 90s I think.

Like you TIS, I always watched Mannix and never missed Perry Mason. It came on past my bedtime, but I would sometimes get to watch it. The last time I saw Mike was on an episode of Two and a Half Men

It probably will get worse throughout the year. It looked like Bush Sr was almost at the end last week. But, like last January, we lost an iconic star and a well liked and known actor.
I knew that KNEW who Richard Hatch was, tho I never watched his tv show. I realized the first time I saw him was in a tv movie called "Deadman's Curve" which was the story of CA singing duo, Jan & Dean. He played Jan Berry. I know I've seen him in movies but for some reason that's movie I remembered. Always thought he was cute.
Can't say I remember Irwin Corey but wow, 102? Amazing!
My old associate newscaster Lucy Noland, implied ,as the way we all use 2 remember our crushes,in high school of course,or in my case ,Jaclyn Smith,,that she fantasized (aka)(rubbing herself)oooh..what a thought..about richard hatch..I wish my mouth was there 2 get the drippings..Lucy ..Im sorry ,but I love u..miss u.!
I He was a funny guy. There was a night club here in NYC called the upstairs at the down stairs. He appeared their so did Joan Rivers we used to see both of then their it was for comedians.
When you reach a certain age nothing surprises you when people die.
There are s few people that I am still friendly with that are still alive. But I only have two real friends that are still breathing. The rest are only a memory.
You think the kids inlaws are waiting for you to kick off so they can divide the inheritance.
I know. I am so sorry to hear that. I'm guessing he has the "early onset dementia" (which occurs in your 60s) which from what I read IS hereditary, since it seems to run in his family. AND Glen Campbell a couple years ago also announced he suffered from it.
with respect and not trying to offend anyone, get the feeling that Cassidy's revelation isn't true and a p.r. move to hide alcoholism.
My maternal grandmother suffered from form of dementia during her final days, so I'm obviously not making light of it. Saw the footage of him stumbling around the other day ..slurring words,etc....and that's consistent with just plain being drunk.

I understand that statement, and had that thought as well. Especially, since his father also suffered from alcoholism. But, being drunk can mask symptoms of someone who is suffering from dementia, or Alzheimers. Rita Hayworth is a case like that, with her getting kicked off a flight while possibly drunk. It pretty much masked what would be diagnosed in 1980 as Alzheimers. We will see in time though.
I don't know if Berry was still performing, but he was until recently. When I saw him, a couple times he got lost in a loop somewhere. He went back to the start of the song each time, sang it fresh. It was almost 20 years ago, on a "see them while you can" bill with Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis. Berry's the first to go.

There was no one better. RIP
Actually, it was announced last year that he would release a new album this year. No idea if that will happen now or not
The only founders of rock and roll still alive (as far as I can recall) are Little Richard and Fats Domino. Richard is 84 and Fats is 89.
If Domino makes it past this year, he will replace Berry for 2018. Thing is, I believe Fats has had history of bad health for some years now. It's still weird to see these three outlive a lot of the legends that would be inspired from them.

Jerry Lee Lewis is still alive. He's 81. Off the top of my head, he's the only other one of that generation that I can think of. Maybe there's more.
Jimmy Breslin, the award-winning columnist for NYC papers and author of many great novels died today at age 86. Breslin wrote "The Gang that Couldn't Shoot Straight" a novel based on the Joey Gallo times. He often reported on organized crime an a colorful, bold way and I always enjoyed his columns. He was a key figure in the Son of Sam killings in 1977 NYC and wrote a good novel about it afterwards (".44").
Mike Aktari, who appeared on the Style Network's Jerseylicious from 2010-12, has died at age 28.
The reality star died in his hometown of Westbury, New York, on Monday, according to TMZ. The cause of death is not yet known, but police reportedly say that foul play is not suspected.
Hope that song dies too. Can't stand it. Gang banger song.
Whoa! Why?
Oli, growing up here going to school with the Mexican gang bangers, cholos and cholas, I would dj at some of their parties with my friends. Angel Baby, I'm Your Puppet and anything by War was played at least a half dozen times. Lol. Believe it or not I made a few friends with these gang bangers, cholos, vatos, whatever you want to call them. Whenever somebody got shot or some poor innocent kid was killed the song sung at the funeral was always Angel Baby. So, I can't listen to that song without being reminded of gang bangers.
I guess it says something about the priorities in my upbringing - when I was a kid one of the few things that would justify my staying up as late as 11:30 was to see Rickles's monologue when he hosted The Tonight Show.
Hope that song dies too. Can't stand it. Gang banger song.
About 25 years ago I was going to get guitar lessons from an instructor named Joey Tafolla, but then he went big time. Little did I know that he was Rosie's nephew. RIP

Clifton James best known for his roles as Sheriff J.W. Pepper alongside Roger Moore in the James Bond films Live and Let Die (1973) and The Man with the Golden Gun (1974), died aged 95.
I just read that. Wow. Tho I'm kind of surprised I'm really not. I know she had a real messed up life, living on the streets and I think drug abuse. Sorry to hear. Only 56.

Surprising enough, throat cancer is said to be what killed her. No drugs were found in her system at the time.
Mean Gene Okerlund was on my plane yesterday and he does not look too good and now elton john.....
Wait! Elton John? I read yesterday he was home from hospital. Is his condition worse than an infection???? I hope not.
Re: Erin Moran, it was determined she likely died of cancer, tho not sure what kind. Also, I believe report said (surprisingly) that no drugs were in her system.

Elton John is supposed to be stable now, and resting at home. He did cancel dates up til July I believe. Either way, his body is probably still weak and stressed from the week long hospital visit. Hope it's not something that will effect him from now on.
Quinn O'Hara, 76, was one of the legion of young actresses who hit Hollywood in the 60s. She was in some Jerry Lewis movies, The Ghost in the Invisible Bikini, and a ton of TV shows:
Powers Boothe, an Emmy-winning character actor whose credits included “Nashville,” “The Avengers” and “Deadwood,” died Sunday at age 68.
The first movie I remember seeing him in was way back where he played Jim Jones. I don't remember the title, but he was excellent!
RIP

That was Guyana. I agree he was excellent there. Also remember him fondly from Tombstone, Deadwood, and the original Red Dawn. He also elevated Sudden Death to a much higher level than it would have been otherwise.
Well, a monster is finally gone from this world. Ian Brady died in jail from lung cancer at 79. Ian Brady, along with his lover Myra Hindley, sexually assaulted and murdered around 5 young victims, known as the Moors murders. Hindley has been roasting in hell since 2002. I hope the families that were affected from this reached some sort of peace.
Whatever film or TV series he was in, he always added with his great acting skills. He could play any role. When he played Jim Jones in "The Guyana Tragedy" I thought he WAS Jim Jones. He was on "Marvel's Agents of Shield" not too long ago as a Hydra villain.
Yea, I just heard about Roger Moore. Tho I've seen a few Bond movies, I was never a huge fan. However, I remember way back when he was in the tv series "The Saint." Was on late at night on weekends, but I use to watch.

Frank Deford, legendary sportswriter, dies at age 78
Frank Deford, one of the sharpest and most affable sportswriters in American journalistic history, died Sunday at the age of 78. Deford’s decades-long career reached from the daily newspaper to the smartphone screen, covering every medium in between. A Sports Illustrated contributor since 1962, Deford also created memorable television segments for outlets including HBO and CNN. His weekly sports segments on NPR, which he concluded earlier this month, showcased his characteristic wit, insight, curiosity, and compassion.
Former major leaguer Jim Piersall, who bared his soul about his struggles with mental illness in his book "Fear Strikes Out," has died. He was 87. Piersall died Saturday at a care facility in Wheaton, Illinois, after a monthslong illness, according to the Boston Red Sox, for whom Piersall played for seven of his 17 seasons in the majors.
Piersall's on-field antics when he first broke into the majors with the Red Sox full-time in 1952 cracked up fans and provided fodder for newspaper columnists. In one game against the St. Louis Browns, he made pig noises and mocked the odd throwing motion of aging Hall of Fame pitcher Satchel Paige.
But Piersall also had furious arguments with umpires, broke down sobbing one day when told he wouldn't play and got into a fistfight with the New York Yankees' Billy Martin at Fenway Park, followed minutes later by a scuffle with a teammate.
"Almost everybody except the umpires and the Red Sox thought I was a riot," Piersall said in the 1955 autobiography, later made into a movie starring Anthony Perkins and Karl Malden. "My wife knew I was sick, yet she was helpless to stop my mad rush towards a mental collapse. The Red Sox couldn't figure out how to handle me. I was a problem child."
He played 56 games in the majors before being admitted to a mental hospital with what was later diagnosed as bipolar disorder. He wrote in his book that he had almost no memory of the season or his time in the hospital. He returned to the majors in 1953 "sound and healthy" thanks to "shock treatments, faith, a wonderful wife, a fine doctor and loyal friends." He went public to shatter society's stereotypes of the mentally ill.

Piersall was "famous" for running the bases backwards after he hit his 100th career homerun. Also, one of his incidents involved charging the mound and throwing his batting helmut at pitcher, Jim Bunning in the early '60s. Bunning just died last week.
Piersall, depsite all the attention to his emotional issues, was a decent ballplayer.
Actor Peter Sallis died June 2 at age 96. (He was on Don Marco's list.)
Actress Elena Verdugo died May 30 at age 92. (She was on my list.)
Yeah, I'd say it was time for an update!
Signor V.
SV, I knew Elena Verdugo rang a bell. My first thought was she played a nurse on tv. Sure enough, I googled her and remembered she was on Marcus Welby.
Just saw that Jerry Lewis (the comedian) has been in the hospital since the 2nd of June for UT infection, but has faced other complications while being treated.
John G. Avildsen, who won an Oscar for directing the original “Rocky” (1976), starring Sylvester Stallone, and also directed all three of the original “Karate Kid” films, has died in Los Angeles. He was 81.
Actor Stephen Furst, best known for his performances as the hapless Flounder in Animal House and put-upon rookie doc Eliott Axelrod on St. Elsewhere, died yesterday at his home in Moorpark, California, near Los Angeles, due to complications from diabetes.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Carrie Fisher's autopsy report shows the actress had cocaine in her system when she fell ill on a plane last year, but investigators could not determine what impact the cocaine and other drugs found in her system had on her death.
The report released Monday states Fisher may have taken cocaine three days before the Dec. 23 flight on which she became ill. She died four days later.
It also found traces of heroin and MDMA, which is also known as ecstasy, but that they could not determine when Fisher had taken those drugs. The findings were based on toxicology screenings done on samples taken when the "Star Wars" actress arrived at a Los Angeles hospital.
Bill Dana goes on the ed Sullivan show dressed like an astronaut. Sullivan sees his helmet and says I see you have your crash helmet on. He says crash helmet I hope not.
I'm not sure how many of you over there knew about him but I am sure at least a couple of you did. Swedish actor Michael Nyqvist passed away today from cancer at the age of 56. Some of the films that you might know him from was the 'Millennium'-trilogy and 'Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol'.
I won't post any link because there seem to not be an option to switch lanuage.

Beautiful wife, father of 4 sons and 2 daughters, an alleged net worth of 30 million dollars and in the prime of his life..
I am never one to judge someone who takes his or her life, because nobody knows what goes on in the head of such a person, but he sure had a lot of things that would make life worth living.
I was in disbelief when I heard it a week ago. A few days before that he was talking about his new project. Talked to him at a some horror conventions. RIP.
When I was 12, I had a paper route that included a senior citizens' apartment complex. I used to collect at 7:30 on Tuesday nights, because every single person in the complex would be home watching "The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour."
I was watching what's my line on you tube before he died watching him on that fantastically funny. Man they were funny. Before I had a little bit of money I would go to Martin and Lewis movie. Then just Lewis movies before they got to Broadway. They would come in person to ever Movie Theather from Harlem to Broadway and do ten minutes live before the movie started. Those movies were good, but nothing compared to the off the cuff stuff they did in person on the Theather stage. I never forgot it. My wife introduced me to the real Theather. We saw the opening night of a chorus line we had good seats on the right side of the third row. After the show started and the lights were off a couple sat down next to me. It was Jerry Lewis and his first wife. I did not bother them but all I could was remember the good times I had at the theather with his life 10 minute performance. I did tell him at the very end. He was very gracious to me. When he first sat down his wife was near me I saw a ring she was wearing I wanted to steal it but the wife was there so I did not. Then I saw who her husband was and it was a great moment for me too talk to him. The muscular dystrophy telethons were great. I would go when they just did it in a hotel in NYC and I always gave to it.
Oh yea, Don Fanucci. I always chuckled when in GFII he was at the Italian Feast and as he walked away from the puppet show said "This is too violent for me." RIP
He sold millions of records, charted again and again. My sense is that he never picked up the "crossover appeal" that many other country artists did, and that's a shame - he was right up there with any of them.
Jamaican supercentenarian, Violet Brown who was the world's oldest living person died aged 117. I picked her..
This is becoming a little crazy. It's becoming a contest to see who can find the oldest people on earth of little notoriety (and yes, I'm guilty of it too). No fun in that. I propose we make some limit on these super old people on our lists for next year.

... or set a cutoff age of, say, 99 years at the time the list is composed.

How about we pick an age, say 80. If you pick someone in their 80s and they die, you get one point. If you pick someone in their 90s, you get 3/4 of a point. 100s - 1/2 point. 110s - 1/4 point. You could even go the other way and offer bonuses as the person picked is younger. 70s - 1.25, 60s - 1.5, 50s - 1.75.
Might discourage simply googling the oldest living person.

Sounds like a plan to me. Maybe give a bonus point for any unique pick also.
Playboy founder, Hugh Hefner has passed away at 91.
Truly the end of an era.
Geoff, SC, TIS and Mignon picked him. That makes four. However, after factoring in the Viagra that Hef was known to use, it automatically increases to eight.

Has been confirmed by his manager and family. The original sources were trying to be 'first' in that announcement. RIP
Honestly, out of all the legendary rock stars, I was more worried hearing about Steven Tyler passing away (recent concert's were cancelled due to health). But, that's the reason why heart attacks are the worst and scariest thing to happen.

I guess now he's the big WIG in the sky..RIP Morrie.
Robert Guillaume, the urbane actor who received two Emmy Awards for portraying the acidic butler Benson on a pair of ABC sitcoms, died Tuesday. He was 89.
Guillaume, a baritone who also starred on the stage and voiced the wise mandrill Rafiki in The Lion King (1994) and its related sequels, video games and TV series, died at his home in Los Angeles, his wife, Donna Brown Guillaume, told the Associated Press. He had been battling prostate cancer.
Awww I just heard about Fats Domino. He definitely earned a place in music history. I remember my brother had an EP (Extended play 45) record. RIP Fats
So, I believe that leaves Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Chubby Checker from that time line (at least that I can think of that is well known). I know that quite a few of singers from that time has passed on really young.
This happened last month but I haven't seen it posted. Greg Antonacci passed away in September. Probably best known as Butchie from the Sopranos and John Torrio on Boardwalk Empire.

Dion is a couple years older than Chubby Checker and he's still recording. I'm not saying he's still relevant outside of his own fan base. Although I think it's plenty relevant for one of the only original rock and rollers to still be recording outside of oldies shows. And he still sounds good. Little Anthony is still around. There are a lot of others but you've probably never heard of them. Jimmy Beaumont just passed away. Voice like butter.
Rydell could really sing, Oli. Of the three big solo acts from Philly back then, I'd rate Rydell first, Frankie Avalon second--and I give credit to Avalon for learning to sing at all because he was a teenaged trumpet player when he was initially discovered--and Fabian third. Fabian was awful. And I mean awful.

For some reason, I thought Dion passed away years ago, not sure if I was confusing him with someone else. And, I can't believe that I forgot Avalon (my dad was a big fan of the beach movies with Avalon and Funicello), but that probably made me think of him as an actor before singer.
Wanna feel old? Here is a fairly recent photo showing (l. to r.) Fabian, Frankie Avalon, Chubby Checker and Bobby Rydell.
Take a good look at the photo. Besides being former teen idols, can you guess what they all now have in common? (No, it's not Geritol... well, it might be...)

The answer: They're all wearing toupees!
Damn... I'm really feeling my years now...
Signor V.
e
Aww. They ALL wear toupees? Actually toupee or not they all look pretty good tho Rydell looks the oldest. Yes, I remember Frankie in the Beach Party movies and his Venus in Blue Jeans; Chubby Checker will forever be the master of "The Twist." Fabian, is ok but the only song I remember by him is "Like a Tiger (?) My favorite of the group is probably Bobby Rydell. Loved Wildwood Days (edited. But wasn't there a Wild One as well?) and his "rock" version of "Volare."
Speaking of the Twist. I remember when it came out and people wondered how to do it. The instruction was to "pretend you're wiping your backside with a towel and at the same time putting a cigarette out on the ground with your foot.
TIS
Btw, all but Chubby are Italian. Italians rock!!! Just saying.

Frankie Avalon is 77, and the oldest; he was born September 18, 1940.
Bobby Rydell is 75; he was born April 26, 1942.
Fabian is the youngest at age 74; he was born February 6, 1943.
In July 2012, Bobby Rydell underwent a combination liver/kidney transplant. Here is a photo - sans toupee - taken in the hospital (for some reason, the photo won't upload here):
As far as the others, having worked in the makeup/hair/wig business for over 40 years, I'm quite good at spotting toupees - though I will admit that there's a very slight possibility of Fabian having had transplants instead of wearing a "piece".
John Hillerman, the actor who made a career out of playing snooty types, including Tom Selleck’s fastidious estate caretaker Jonathan Quayle Higgins III on Magnum, P.I., died Thursday. He was 84.
Hillerman, who received four Emmy nominations in consecutive years for portraying Higgins and won in 1987, died at his home in Houston, family spokeswoman Lori De Waal told the Associated Press. She said the cause of death had not been determined.
Hillerman also appeared as Higgins on episodes of Murder, She Wrote and Simon & Simon.
Hmmm... Maybe I'm not as sharp as I used to be (a definite possibility), but I'd say that at least one-third of those people are unrecognizable to me. Too bad there wasn't a list of names to go with that photo.

You're much too modest, SV. You're not half as sharp as you used to be (and that's not saying much).
Truth be told I don't recognize most of the faces in the photo.
SV first asked, "You wanna feel old?" Oh goodie, yea, can I?
I recognize approximately a dozen people in that picture, but man, didn't realize so many celebrities died in one year. Maybe the ones I don't recognize are WAY before my time.
Have a great day SV and SC and everyone on the BB. (hey I rhymed) Ok, I'll shut up now.
When I was in 11th grade my school had a fund raiser for St. Jude's Hospital. Students went to homes in neighborhoods to collect for St. Judes and whichever grade got the most donations won a ticket for a concert which included Chubby Checker, Frankie, Fabian and others (can't remember if Rydell was there.) It wasn't a Dick Clark event. I can't remember who sponsored it.
Anyway I was so excited to go BUT as it turned out, the concert was on the same day as my sister's High School graduation. I remember telling my mom "I don't wanna go to a stupid graduation. I wanna go to the concert." My mom won and I missed the concert.

I hope he died a painful death. There are only a handful of people whom I would classify as truly 100% evil people and he is one of them. I hope they did nothing to comfort him or make his passing any easier.
Throw him and that goddamn swastika carved in his forehead into the ocean and let the fish eat him.
I just saw a report that Charles Manson died. It is NOT confirmed yet, but if it's true - Good Riddance.
A few people picked him.
From what I saw, his medical condition is still unknown, but still living. We might have a busy weekend with notable deaths, since King Michael of Romania is also facing the end of the line. But, yeah, I will be surprised if both somehow make it to 2018.

Last I heard he was on his death bed. Yea, good riddance all right. The guy is so totally creepy.
Also Malcom Young from ACDC passed away from Dementia I hear. Tho I know and don't mind the group, I can't say I would know the singers. Anyway, sorry to hear it.
Was it earlier this year that he said he was diagnosed with dementia or Alzheimer's? Sadly with his history of drugs/alcohol, I am not surprised. I believe his father Jack Cassidy had the same problems, and had a terrible death. I feel terrible for Shirley Jones, past few years of death of those close to her.
Mel Tillis, as famed for his recording career and songwriting as he was for his lifelong stutter, died early Sunday morning at Munroe Regional Medical Center in Ocala, Florida, following a lengthy illness, a representative confirmed. He was 85. As a songwriter, he was known for hits that included the Bobby Bare single "Detroit City," Webb Pierce's "I'm Tired" and the 1969 crossover tune for Kenny Rogers & the First Edition, "Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to Town." As a recording artist and performer, the affable Tillis was the CMA's Entertainer of the Year in 1976, a mainstream country-music superstar at a time when the genre was dominated by pop-leaning country and the burgeoning outlaw movement.

Oh, yeah! I remember seeing him in Smokey and the Bandit II and the Cannonball Run movies
Adding onto this, it seems like David Cassidy is not going to recover and won't be able to do a liver transplant since his dementia
Warren "Pete" Moore, an original member of the legendary Motown singing group the Miracles, died Sunday at the age of 78.
Motown founder Berry Gordy confirmed Moore's death in a statement. No cause of death was provided.
Tho I couldn't name all the people in the Miracles, other than Smokey of course, sorry to hear of Pete Moore's passing. The Miracles contributed to one of the best sounds in music history IMO. Being born/raised in Michigan, Motown Music was our pride & joy. I still love the sound. There's just been nothing like it since.
Not a C&W fan and tho I couldn't list his greatest hits, I certainly know who Mel Tillis is. Sorry to hear of his passing as well. Btw, years ago (90s) on one of my Vegas trips, Mel was performing at one of the Hotels. I wasn't aware that he had a stutter problem and I'll never forget the billboard which said "M M M M Mel Tillis. I'm assuming Mel was ok with joking about it.
As far as Charles Manson, I'm sure he's in a very special spot in Hell.
David Cassidy, pop culture idol of the 1970s, has died as a result of complications from dementia. The musician and actor was 67
I believe his father and mother died the same way.
I heard on the news that both his mother and his uncle had it. But I swear that at one time I heard is father, Jack Cassidy also had it. Sounds like the early-onset dementia, which I understand IS usually hereditary. So sad. RIP David!

Sadly, Jack Cassidy suffered from bi-polar, and his drinking didn't help matters. Jack died from dropping a lit cigarette on the couch after passing out (that night he wanted drinks with his ex-wife Shirly Jones, but she declined. then asked Donna Theodore out on a date. but, soon after Donna asked to be taken back home after awhile because Jack was acting weird).

Same setup as last year, or are we going to go with some age weighting plan?
Same setup as last year, or are we going to go with some age weighting plan?
I'd prefer some age weighting included so that this doesn't become a simple list of the oldest persons alive. That's just me, though. Anyone else wanna add their 2¢? Maybe give extra credit to any unique pick also?
Off the top of my head..How about, set an age (say 65 or 70) and anyone over that age is a normal "win." Whereas, if it's under 40 it counts as a double win? 30 or younger a triple win. So basically there's 3 categories.
This is just a quick thought. Something to chew on. Feel free to modify, delete, add or ignore.
I pretty much agree with TIS. Set an age above which one gets a win; below that age they get double. That way you keep it simple with only two categories.
I like the weighting, even though I think one of mine this year was the oldest person. I like under 50 is 2 points, 50 to under 100 is 1 and over 100 is 1/2.
I like the idea of age weight as well, but maybe make those under 65 two points. Those over 65, can have the normal one point. And, if we want a three point system...maybe the cutting point at 45 or 50. But, I also believe that those certain people who have been on our lists for years (like those who make to 100 or those who have been on their death bed multiple times) should be a few points on when they pass away, as something special. Just an idea though

You mean as a reward for dying? They should get penalized for hanging on so long.

Bob Givens(American animator (Looney Tunes, Tom and Jerry, Garfield and Friends) died aged 99
Bob Givens I remember him when I was a kid i found myself in New York hospital as a kid. There were a bunch of kids with me. One kid had a famous or at least a well known father. He was a cartoonist. He drew looney tunes drawings.
He went into the kids ward and started to draw pictures of bugs bunny, Daffy Duck and Yosemite Sam for all the kids. At that time I could not get over just how fast he could draw a picture. He drew me a picture of bugs bunny.
