GOAL: Predict which notable* figures will die on/between January 1 and December 31, 2016, Eastern Time.
Produce a maximum of 50 names, to be PM'ed to me (NOT posted here) before the ball drops in Times Square (NYC) at midnight on New Years (i.e., 12AM ET, January 1, 2016). The BB's default timestamp will determine entry time.
*It's assumed that all notable figures will have an entry, or be mentioned in an entry, at Google, Wikipedia or another legit source which you may have to prove.
Rules:
1) PLEASE alphabetize your list of 50 names by LAST name (regardless of profession), either in the form of FIRSTNAME LASTNAME -or- LASTNAME, FIRSTNAME, in *1* column of names.
2) If it's not obvious who the person is for most people, after the name please add why they're notable. For example: "Douglas Fraser, trade unionist" (Sorry, he's already dead). In addition, you may or may not choose to include the person's current age; for example: "Douglas Fraser, trade unionist (91)"
3) If you submit your list days before Midnight, January 1st, 2016, and someone on your list dies before 2016, you should substitute the person with another and resubmit your list (by the deadline). If you do not resubmit your list, and the person died in 2015, the person will obviously NOT count for 2016.
4) a) Thou Shalt Not Kill (anyone on your list); b) criminals subject to the Death Penalty or anyone kidnapped or held hostage in 2015 won't count -- unless they die of natural causes; c) "Dead" means permanently dead, not later revived, nor put in animated suspension, or any induced or natural coma starting before 2016 begins; d) do not edit Wikipedia with false death information.
Everyone's lists will be updated unofficially throughout the year, but year-end audits should be performed to determine the final winner sometime shortly after December 31, 2016. YOU are responsible for your own audit at years' end.

Can't say I have heard of him but anyone hear about C&W singer Craig Strickland who died in boating (hunting) accident and died of hypothermia. He was only 29 I believe. How sad.

He sent out some Tweets or posted on Facebook that he didn't know if he was going to survive the trip. This was before he and a friend set out during a really terrible storm. It's like he had a premonition...
Richard Libertini, 82, was one of the greatest comic character actors of the 70s and 80s. His neurotic embezzler turned Dr. Bob Hartley's practice upside down, and he turned up at the 12th Precinct once, claiming his name was "1223." Always perfectly believable no matter how unlikely the character:
I...can't believe it still..but, singer, songwriter, actor, etc. David Bowie has passed away at the age of 69 due to cancer...he just released a new album on his birthday this past friday..fuck cancer

I just heard about it this morning and I'm shocked. Evidently he's had cancer for about 18 months and family wanted to keep it under wraps. I heard on the radio this morning that he had a stroke earlier and that's when they discovered the cancer.
I did see a small clip of his upcoming album last week and thought he looked different but just assumed he looked older. For some reason it never occurred to me he was sick.
Anyway, I can't say I own all his music, but he surely was talented with his unique voice and in some cases different type sound/songs.
Off the top of my head, some favorites: Space Oddity, Young Americans, Let's Dance. I really did love he and Mick Jagger's Dancing in the Street.
I was in shock when i heard about Bowies death he was one of the great acts of the 70's and his album Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders From Mars is up there with the great Beatles Albums as the best album in Pop/Rock history..
A talented and unique individual and his death is a sad day for music..
Baseball Hall of Famer Monte Irvin, at 96. He was one of a very small handful of players to have significant careers in both the major leagues (New York Giants) and the Negro Leagues (Newark Eagles):
The tragic life of Lawrence Phillips has come to an tragic end.
The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation announced Wednesday that Phillips -- a former college star at Nebraska whose NFL career was derailed by off-the-field issues -- was found unresponsive in his cell at Kern Valley State Prison early Wednesday morning. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Phillips was 40. Prison officials are investigating the death as a possible suicide.
Looks like I broke the ice this year. William DelMonte, the last survivor of the Great San Francisco Earthquake (1906) died three days ago at age 109.
It was an exclusive hit for me.
You mean SV didn't have this guy on his list???
Wow, I can't say I ever heard of the guy but wow!! 109? That's amazing.
Sorry about Alan Rickman too. I know him best from Die Hard (one of my favorite movies). He was a great villain. What a coincidence he and Bowie, within days of each other, same age and both die from cancer.
Oh yea, I remember him. Tho I didn't really watch the show my younger brother did. Haggerty was quite popular from that series. Geez, yet another cancer death?
I'm so sad. Glen Frey of The Eagles passed away at 67. Article states intestinal issues. I am so sorry to hear that.
I saw the Eagles "Hell Freezes Over" tour and also one other time after that. They were fabulous. One of my favorite concerts. Gee, I can't believe it.
I remember back in 94 going to the Eagles "Hell Freezes Over" concert here in CA at the Glen Helen pavilion (for those who know of it). It's a great site for a summer outdoor concert.
They allowed a tailgate party a couple hours before the concert in the parking lot. It was so much fun. People BBQing, drinking, Eagle music playing in the background. It was like a party. One of the best concerts I ever attended. A couple years later, I saw them again at the same place and was NOT disappointed.
David Bowie, Glenn Frey BUT what do you bet Keith Richards will outlive us all, God bless him.
Dunno what is going on with rock musicians lately but another one joins the group of dead ..... Dallas Taylor, 66, the drummer for Crosby Stills Nash & Young has just died.

Hate to break it to you SC, but Dallas Taylor died January 18, 2015.
However, this article does add to the confusion, IMO.
What the hell did I miss!? Haven't had internet for the past couple days, and dealing with my father in the hospital (by the looks of it, cancer has been the main cause).
Very sorry to hear that BAM. It's the real moments like this in our personal lives that put this game to shame, but I feel we need to be able to talk about things like this. I hope all works out well for your dad.
Thanks for the well wishes, and I hope the same as well. Pretty much this, seeing a doctor and being vocal about pain or anything else is very crucial. And, make sure that you are covered life insurance wise.

Sad about this one. I really regret not going to see them when I had the chance back in summer 2014.
It saddens me to see some of the abuse and mockery his passing has been greeted with.
R.I.P. Glenn.
One of the very first records (yes, records) I ever got was The Eagle's Greatest Hits, 1971-1975. "One of These Nights" was one of my favorite songs in my childhood. He'll be missed. A true talent.

I know I will.
Sending healing energies to your Dad.
Thank you very much for the wishes everybody. He is back home, and getting hospice care. As long as he is comfortable and happy. That's all my family want.
And, yeah fuck cancer. Made it through Vietnam and just turned 65 this past December.
Sorry to hear about Abe's passing. But damn, 94 yrs old? God bless him. I read his daughter said he "died of old age. He was never sick." Amazing!!
Btw, is this the first person that EVERYONE had on their list? Of course after all the false alarms, it was bound to be true eventually. Although, there's still Zsa Zsa. Isn't she about the same age?
It is sad because he was such a likable character. On the other hand he lived a long life and is to be expected that he would die soon.
I first saw Vigoda on Broadway back around 1967. My sister-in-law's sister was an actress and she was in a play "Marat-Sade" (an artsy kind of thing I would not normally go to see). Anyway, Vigoda was in the play and although I don't remember taking note of him I was somewhat surprised of learning that some years later when I looked up some info on the production.
I always liked him as "Fish" on television and enjoyed seeing him more recently in some commercials.
Was a big fan of Vigoda for The Godfather and Barney Miller. People often thought he was Italian, but he was the son of Samuel and Lena Vigoda, Russian Jewish immigrants.

Huh, I would be one of those people that thought he was Italian.
If It was a betting man, Zsa Zsa will be joining in the next couple of days.
I still maintain that ol' Zsa Zsa will never die!
I actually got to meet and talk with Abe Vigoda many years ago. It was back in 1986, and I was called in to meet with him and discuss possible ideas for his makeup because he was going to appear in a revival of the play "Arsenic & Old Lace." His character was supposed to look like Boris Karloff (who originated the role in 1941) after recent plastic surgery. We talked for about a half-hour, and I tried out a couple of ideas on his face. Ultimately, we both decided to downplay any heavy makeup, and just suggest a couple of scars with makeup pencils. He probably didn't need that either, because his face certainly had that baleful, gaunt look without my "enhancements"!
We didn't discuss GF, or "Barney Miller" or anything like that, though. But he was a very nice fellow, no "star ego". He was just what you saw in his interviews. Just a regular guy who happened to be a working actor.
Thanks to the internet, I listened to Wogan in the Morning quite a bit in the last few years of the show. It was a very pleasant way to start the morning.
Sorry to hear about Jean Stapleton. She will always be the ditzy, but good hearted Edith Bunker.
Wake up youse two..... Jean Stapleton died a few years ago.
I guess the AP has been screwing up again. I recently saw a post that Bob Denver passed away again (he passed back in 2005). This has to be the third time for him, and I won't get into Rue Mcclanahan. Anyways, I believe it's best to look the person up on google/Wikipedia before.
[quote=mustachepete]Comedian Bob Elliott, half of the team of Bob and Ray and the father of Chris Elliott, RIP at 92. Bob and Ray were terrific:
I missed this probably due to all of our local media focusing on the hoopla surrounding the Superbowl. I remember him from Quick Change and Get a Life. That is a talented family for sure - three generations of funny. RIP.
Looks like it might finally be the end for Zsa Zsa Gabor. Being rushed to the hospital yesterday (two days after her 99th birthday) due to breathing problems, and will undergo surgery to take her feeding tube out.
I do feel bad for her, living in that way for years. Hopefully, she is not in pain or agony. Especially since her only daughter passed just last year.
Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia joins the list. He was 79.
The first Paisan on the Court, I did disagree with a couple of his opinions in particular. You New Yorkers should note that he was from Queens(Ginsberg is from Brooklyn).
His strict construction interpretation of the Constitution reminds me of Robert Bork who President Reagan also nominated, but who withdrew from the nomination. Scalia was a little too verbose for me when it came to his commenting on the Court's majority opinions when he dissented. The justices should not do that. Nevertheless, jurists will note his contributions to jurisprudence as important.
She was absolutely gorgeous and still looked amazing even after her health declined. She turned her life around and became an amazing woman on the inside as well as the outside. (And yes, when I was young I used to have her poster on my wall :-)
A couple of baseball players: Tony Phillips, 57, who was one of the most versatile players ever and reached his peak in the early 90s with the Detroit Tigers, and; Jim Davenport, 82, third baseman of the powerful San Francisco Giants teams of the early 60s.

Wonder how many are still left from that powerful Giants team's? I know that Mays, McCovey, and Gaylord Perry are still around.
After seeing George HW Bush on the Debate last night I think we'll all have another "hit" real soon.
Don't forget about Zsa Zsa, and I still have no idea if Carter will make it through the year, even though he did beat cancer. Also, have to wonder about Fidel Castro, since his older brother passed a couple days ago.

George Kennedy, best known for his portrayal of Dragline in "Cool Hand Luke" has died at age 91.
TIS and Mikey_Sunset had him on their lists.
Oh, I hadn't heard he passed.
SC, who was the actor from that movie (Cool Hand Luke) who's famous line was "What we have here is a failure to communicate?" LOL Very familiar face and character actor. Don't remember who he is.

Ha ha. That's a perfect quote for a teacher. I'd suggest it to my daughter, but she's a kindergarten teacher. I doubt the kids would grasp it. Ha ha
After last year's "Beginner's Luck" fluke, SV, the spawn of the devil, decided not to ask his old man for help with his list for this year. We see now how that strategy is working.
Sorry to hear it. Tho I can't say I would know each individual in the group, I did enjoy some of their music. Did I hear it was suicide? Yea, with David Bowie, Glenn Frye it has been a bad year for Rock singers (and the year is still young).
NO! Not the Stones. Well, I don't wish for any of them to die, but especially none of the Stones. I'm not ready for it.
Not ready for it?? Think back 50 years ago - watching the Beatles on Ed Sullivan. Did you think that two of them would be dead within forty years?
Especially one of them being shot down. Just sad to think that all four or at least three of the Beatles could still be around today. But, I guess we could say that for a lot of musicians over the years who left way too soon.
Jon English, the Australian rocker/musician died a few days ago at age 66. Another "young" musician gone.
Okay, seriously, will this be one of those abnormal years with a lot of famous/noteworthy deaths or just a normal year with a bad couple of weeks with back to back famous deaths (like the year with Swazye, Fawcett, Jackson, two Kennedy's, Cronkite, and McMahon).
I mean, with musicians alone this seems to be way too much in a year. I mean no aviation crash, and none of them are 27. It seems like the decade(s) of sex, drugs, and alcohol seems to be catching up with everybody or something like that.
I just heard too. Wow, I am really surprised. So sorry to hear it. They say massive heart attack. Don't remember his dad's age when he died but he was in his 80s I think.

Yeah, Sinatra was 82 and died from a major heart attack. Seems like Nancy, and the rest of his children (that is known or not) should be careful with that stuff. Just terrible to hear that.
I think Frank Jr., Nancy & Tina were his only kids no? I don't think he had kids with his last wife (widow). Anyway I am really sorry to hear it.
TIS
Well, it depends on if you believe Mia Farrow then. A couple years ago, she said that Ronan Farrow's father might be Sinatra's and not Allen's. She did recant what she said, but yeah..might be some truth to that.
....."But as he sought a second term in 2014, Ford was diagnosed with a rare cancer. Malignant liposarcoma in his abdomen forced him to do what months of scandals could not — drop his bid for re-election. Ford underwent aggressive chemotherapy treatments but succumbed to the illness on Tuesday. He was 46." RIP
Just wondering, who is left from that legendary era of the Yankees?
Garagiola's connection to the Yankees was certainly not in their legendary era. He broadcast the Yank's games in the mid '60s when the Bronx Bombers were just about the worst team in the league.
I know Whitey Ford is still alive from that period and I suspect there are many others.
The man is a legend in my country the Netherlands and is considered the best Dutch player ever. Even though he was diagnosed with lung cancer his death comes unexpected nonetheless, because recent reports stated that his treatment was going very well..
Wow cryuff is dead what a player he was his move the cryuff is one of the few moves every player should be able to do. A move where you can reverse your field position by yourself without help from a team mate.
Also shooting off the cryuff is a spectacular play.
Comedian Gary Shandling, 66, died today. As far as I know his death was totally unexpected.
I just heard too. Can't say I was a fan of his humor but I'm sorry (and surprised) to hear of his passing. They just said he was not suffering from an "undisclosed illness." Too bad. RIP

Thanks for the correction, and that's good to hear at least.
I'm really sorry AND surprised to hear of it. I didn't know she was sick. I remember the Miracle Worker and her tv show. Also, I remember her in Valley of The Dolls. RIP
My mom used to make us watch the Patty Duke show on TV as a kid. i grew to like it. She was a good actress and when I went to IMDB.com I was amazed to see how much acting she has done on both TV and film. I saw her a lot doing supporting roles. RIP Patty, thank you for the memories!
Meet Cathy, who's lived most everywhere, From Zanzibar to Barclay Square. But Patty's only seen the sight. A girl can see from Brooklyn Heights -- What a crazy pair!
But they're cousins, Identical cousins all the way. One pair of matching bookends, Different as night and day.

One of the great TV character actors, William Schallert, played Patty's father on her show. He survives her, at 93.
My dad was surprised that he was still alive some months ago, when he saw him on a promo for the show on MeTV.
She did a lot of great work during her time, and I still need to see the Miracle Worker. She was married to Gomez, and Sean Astin is her oldest child. She was an advocate for mental health issues, being diagnosed with bi-polar disorder in 1982. RIP

British actor Douglas Wilmer died March 31 at the age of 96. A prolific character actor, he was perhaps best known for portraying Sherlock Holmes in a 1960's BBC television series. I had the pleasure of meeting him in 1999. A lovely gentleman.
Actor/singer (and Canadian legend) Don Francks died April 3rd at age 84. He was probably best known to American audiences as "Woody Mahoney" (a character loosely based on Woody Guthrie) in Francis Ford Coppola's 1968 film version of "Finian's Rainbow", appearing with Fred Astaire and Petula Clark.
That piece of shit murderer Winston mosley died in prison yesterday. He is the ass who murdered and raped Kitty Genovese in Queens while a large crowd stood there and watched and didn't even try to help her. He went to Attica and at some point shoved glass up his ass and had to be taken into Buffalo to the hospital where he escaped and kidnapped Matthew Kulaga and his wife and raped her before the FBI captured him

Wow, that is beyond fucked up. I honestly thought the Kitty Genovese case was mob related, due to her last name.
I remember Mulligan but not well. Can you tell me more about him.
I used to dig wrestling way back when.
Guys I really remember Bruno Smmartino, Waldo Von Erick, chief jay throng bow, Kangaroo brothers, sciclians Tony alto-more and his partner Lou Albano his signature move fingers in the opponents eyes that was also mine :), Bobo Brazil, calypso kid, Antonio Rocca, can go on and on. It was the golden age of wrestling.
One of the guys I only saw one time he was not in the wwf. It was a show at the becon theather Lou Thiez he was so athletic he was amazing he was in his 60s back then.
People really thought it was real back them. I saw Waldo Von Erick stabbed by someone at the garden the old one. Iron sheik I forget his name the guy that stood on the top rope and head but a guy on the Mat. I think he actually murdered someone yrs ago o yes Jimmy super fly snuka
Foot, BJM had a great gimmick. He was a tough cowboy who wore Black cutoff gloves. His finishing move was the grip opponent on the forehead until blood would gush out.A giant X would appear on the tv screen because censors wouldn't allow blood on tv. Of course as kids,we loved it.
Note that this Will Smith is NOT the actor from "Independence Day" and "Men in Black", etc. THIS Will Smith was the former Saints football player. (He was shot to death after a traffic accident dispute).

When I saw the headline of this story I immediately thought the actor. Since I know next to nothing about any sports person, I have never heard of this Will Smith. Anyway, very sad.

Anne Jackson died April 12 at age 90. A fine actress in her own right, she was the widow of Eli Wallach (Don Altobello in GF3).
Around 15 years ago, we saw the two of them in a two-person theatrical retrospective of their roles in various Tennessee Williams plays throughout their long careers. Got to speak with them a bit afterward. Wonderful show, and the two of them were a real class act.
I am just totally shocked. Only 57. Last week they reported he was in hospital for about 3 hours and released. I assumed it was a flu bug or something.
I don't know all his albums but am familiar with his hit songs, and there's a string of them. I'm so sorry to hear this. Gosh, David Bowie, Glenn Frye and now Prince. A big loss to the music world.
FWIW, my favorite Prince song is "When Doves Cry."
I am really shocked to hear that Prince did not have a will (at least none as been found yet.) You'd think he'd have legal advisors. Anyway, he has no children, but I believe 6 siblings/half siblings. From what I hear most are estranged BUT in the case of no children, they say they are likely to divide inheritance among siblings.
I heard this morning on the radio that comedian, Goerge Lopez gave family $20,000 because the didn't have enough money to cover expenses (his bills, funeral, etc.)
To add to matters it also was reported that a good number of people have called (whoever you'd call???) claiming to be a love child of Prince. I smell a real mess, unless they find a will. So sad!!!!
They said his fortune is about 300 million BUT also there was a vault of many songs he wrote that were not recorded yet.
Tho, I was never a huge fan, nor do I have all his music but I like him. I am most familiar with his many hit songs, yet for some reasons I am really saddened to hear of Prince's death.
Did you see this version of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps"(one of my favorite Beatle songs) With Prince, Tom Petty, Steve Winwood, etc? Excellent guitar work by Prince toward end, especially.
Btw, the young guy is George Harrison's son, which you probably know.
yes the leeches, parasites and bloodsuckers have come out of the woodworks for Prince's money.
Since he was cremated, I don't know if they can do any kind of posthumous DNA test to prove he was anybody's father....so hopeful the leeches crawl back into the holes they were hiding in.
Unfortunately I've witnessed this in real life...and I've also witnessed the flipside where a person dies broke and because of that.....even close family can't bother to even attend funeral services.
Ha ha ha!! Yes, I'd say have 116 yr old on a Dead Pool list has good odds. Seriously tho, 116? Wow! That is amazing.
TIS, it makes me feel old now when someone remarks that it was a really big deal to still be alive after being born in the 19th century. My own grandparents were born then, and yes, they always seemed old to me, but I remember as a kid when I'd hear on the news that Civil War soldiers were still alive.
I got my grandkids a DVD of Mr. Ed. They laugh at the theme song, (remember "A Horse Is A Horse Of Course")....because the video get stuck on keeps repeated that line. Got to be a joke.
Anyway, if I recall that was on Sunday evenings? Didn't watch all the time I do remember it.

Mr. Ed play in the morning on the Antenna TV network. It's still pretty funny, 50 years after it went off the wir.
SANTA MONICA, Calif. (AP) — Beth Howland, the actress best known for her role as a ditzy waitress on the 1970s and '80s CBS sitcom "Alice," has died. She was 74.
Her husband, actor Charles Kimbrough, told The Associated Press that Howland died Dec. 31 of lung cancer in Santa Monica, California. He said there had been no announcement, funeral or memorial service because that's how she wanted it.
"That was her choice," he said.
Howland was born May 28, 1941, in Boston. At 16, she landed a role on Broadway alongside Dick Van Dyke in "Bye Bye Birdie." CBS later noticed Howland on stage in the 1970 production of "Company" and brought her to Hollywood for a bit part on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show."
He was simply the most exciting athlete I've ever seen. I remember seeing Joe Louis on television when he was already an old man and I was just a kid. My dad always remarked how old he looked because he remembered Louis as a young man. That's the same way it was with me and Ali. It was so sad to see him as an old man, ravaged by the years in the ring and his Parkinson's.
Like probably most others here on the GBB I have a few signatures of some famous people. My most-prized one is Ali's. My brother-in-law and I had gone to the last boxing match in the old Madison Square Garden (March, 1967) and after the main event's decision was announced (the crowd didn't like the call) a riot started. Bottles came raining down from the cheap seats and everyone ran out of the Garden. As my brother-in-law and I crossed 8th Avenue I saw Ali, surrounded by six of the biggest, baddest looking bodyguards you'll ever see. Still, I was able to hand my newspaper to him and he signed the back page of the New York Post. I have that proudly framed on my den wall now.
Actor Barry Pearl (my mom's distant cousin who played Doody in the film Grease; and speaking of signatures, I have a pic that both he and Rickles have signed ;)) posted this on FB: "I was walking up 8th Ave. in NYC, circa 1962, about to pass the old Madison Square Garden and I see this guy looking up at the marquee as they're putting his name up...Cassius Clay. I stop and shake his hand. Mine felt like a pea in his.
"Fade out, fade in, I'm at NBC in 1976 doing CPO SHARKEY with Don Rickles. Our studio is directly across from Carson's TONIGHT SHOW. Our shows shared the makeup area so we'd get to meet all the celebs that he'd have on as guests. This one time, Ali was a guest. Got to meet him again and tell him about meeting him in '62 on 8th Ave. in front of the old Garden at the beginning of his rise."
As for me, Ali was always an icon since childhood. It was sad to hear about the Parkinson's, and seeing him suffer for years. RIP, Champ!

An interesting guy saw him in front of the plaza hotel once. He had a big crowd around him.
There were some questions in some of his fights. The fight against Listen. Listen was going to kill him. Then Ali hit him with the fantham punch that knocked listen out that no one saw. Ali said he hit him with an anchor punch that no one ever saw
Everyone thought listen took a dive I thought that myself.
Then the biggie the fight against foreman in Africa. the ring was fixed so Ali could lean back on the ropes well over 2 feet to keep foremen from taging him when foreman had him against the ropes.that was redicules a joke. Foreman got tired and ran out of gas.
Yep she was stabbed and recovered. Then started some support center for victims and what they say on line is that she died today. Not stating cause of death. Wonder what killed her, only 61.....? She died in the hospital so maybe she was already in getting treatment and died...
what????? isnt she the chick that got stabbed many moon's ago? i thought she been dead..i'm confused here...
Same thing happened to actress Rebecca Schaeffer in '89. Some nut has been stalking her for three years, and used a private investigator to find where she lived (like the guy who attacked Saldana). He shows up the first time showing her the letter and autograph that she wrote him. Shaeffer told him not to show up again, so he went to a diner for breakfast. After he was done, he showed up at Shaeffer's home again, and shot her once in the chest. Sadly, she didn't survive from the shooting. I guess Shaeffer was also preparing for an audition for the Godfather Part III at the time.
Madison Square Garden lost two of its big draws within a week. I went there often in the mid/late '60s to see the Rangers play and Detroit (lead by Howe) was always a fun matchup. Gordie was already considered an "older" player by then but he was always very well-respected by fans and opponents as well.
Any one watch the Voice one of the past contestant was just murdered by a nut fan. She was 22 I don't know her name like Lennon was killed. Except the prick that did it did the right thing he killed himself

Played in the NHL at the age of 51 and still produced 41 points. Crazy.
"Elie Wiesel, the Auschwitz survivor who became an eloquent witness for the six million Jews slaughtered in World War II and who, more than anyone, seared the memory of the Holocaust on the world’s conscience, died on Saturday at his home in Manhattan. He was 87."
A rare combination of savvy and big-hearted, Garry Marshall, who has died at age 81, deserves to be remembered as a beloved TV producer, director, and actor. Yes, he was the director of big movie hits like 1990’s Pretty Woman and smaller gems such as 1984’s The Flamingo Kid. But I’d claim Marshall as foremost a great TV artist, bringing to the medium great generosity of heart that rarely veered into mere sentimentality.
Marshall grounded some of his greatest work — on Happy Days, The Odd Couple, Laverne & Shirley, Mork and Mindy, and more — with gags and direction that emphasized the humanity beneath the laughs. Marshall began his career as a writer, producer, and director of sitcoms that showcased comedians — The Danny Thomas Show (aka, Make Room For Daddy), The Dick Van Dyke Show, The Joey Bishop Show, and The Lucy Show. But with his TV adaptation of Neil Simon’s play The Odd Couple, starting in 1970, Marshall came into his own as a master of ensemble-cast comedy. He staged scenes between Tony Randall and Jack Klugman with the precision of a top-notch Broadway farce, and did the hard work of extending Simon’s creations, deepening those characters beyond their theater roots to become true TV originals.
The Odd Couple's one of my top 5 all-time sitcoms. Happy Days and Laverne and Shirley were the two top-rated shows two years in a row. The following year, those two plus Mork and Mindy were in the top 4.
The youngest son of the show-business legend had been performing a tribute show to his famous father in recent years. Ricci Martin, a musician, entertainer and youngest son of show-business legend Dean Martin, was found dead Wednesday at his Utah home, The Hollywood Reporter can confirm. The cause of death has not yet been determined, family members announced on Saturday. He was 62.
Singer Glenn Yarbrough died August 11 at age 86. He had been in declining health for some time. An original member of the folk group The Limeliters, he also had a solo hit in 1964 with "Baby, the Rain Must Fall."

Yep. One and the same.
Also, actor Kenny Baker has died at age 81. He played R2D2 in the original Star Wars films and appeared in the film "Time Bandits" among his many other credits.
Actor Gene Wilder, best known for starring in "The Producers", "Blazing Saddles", "Young Frankenstein" and "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" has died at age 83.
Actor Hugh O'Brien dies at 91. I use to watch Wyatt Earp all the time. Always thought he was cute. Don't know if he's appeared in public lately but it's been years and years since I've seen him. RIP
Did a quick glance. I think I'm the only one who had him on their list.

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Phyllis Schlafly, the outspoken conservative activist who helped defeat the Equal Rights Amendment in the 1970s and founded the Eagle Forum political group, has died. She was 92.
Schlafly's family was with her when she died Monday afternoon of cancer at her home in St. Louis, her son John Schlafly said. Funeral arrangements are pending, he said.
Schlafly rose to national attention in 1964 with her self-published book, "A Choice Not an Echo," that became a manifesto for the far right. The book, which sold three million copies, chronicled the history of the Republican National Convention and is credited for helping conservative Sen. Barry Goldwater of Arizona earn the 1964 GOP nomination.
And, now it's being reported that golfing legend (one of my dad's favorites) Arnold Palmer has passed on at the age of 87. RIP to both men. Young and old.
Fernandez death is extra sad. Had a kid on the way.
I always liked Arnold Palmer. I'm not much of a golf fan but thanks for that lemonade/ice tea! Good flu remedy. Put it in a mug, heat it, clears you right up.
What's up with pro athletes and Florida waters? Fernandez today. Marquis Cooper a few years ago. Tim Crews and Steve Olin in the '90s. One in the Gulf, one in the Atlantic, and the other in a lake.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Pop idol Bobby Vee, the boyish, grinning 1960s singer whose career was born when he took a Midwestern stage as a teenager to fill in after the 1959 plane crash that killed rock 'n' roll stars Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson, has died. He was 73.
Also:
SANTA MONICA, Calif. – Famed '60s anti-war activist Tom Hayden, whose name became forever linked with the celebrated Chicago 7 trial, Vietnam War protests and his ex-wife actress Jane Fonda, has died. He was 76.
He died on Sunday after a long illness, said his wife, Barbara Williams, noting that he suffered a stroke in 2015.
Hayden, once denounced as a traitor by his detractors, overcame his past and won election to the California Assembly and Senate where he served for almost two decades as a progressive force on such issues as the environment and education. He was the only one of the radical Chicago 7 defendants to win such distinction in the mainstream political world.
Tom Hayden was one of the people responsible for putting California on the road to financial and moral oblivion. To paraphrase another poster, "You should always say something good about the dead: he’s dead, good."
Add actor Robert Vaughn to those who have left us this year. He was a gifted actor and I most remember him from his tv show, "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." but his great performances in movies such as "The Magnificent Seven", "The Young Philadelphians" (my favorite role of his) and "Bullitt" will always live on.
R.I.P. Robert and thanks for the hours of entertainment.

It was true that during The Man From U.N.C.L.E.'s run, people would write the show asking how they could apply to be an UNCLE agent.

Was surprised by that headline -- that wasn't a huge role.
The Godfather role didn't do her justice - very pretty girl. Went either blonde or brunette, was one of the legions of starlets who made the rounds of TV shows then: Batman, I Dream of Jeannie, Bewitched, all the detective shows.

Pete, that's one thing about actors that we seldom recognize: it's a job like any other and they want to keep working, so they take a variety of roles. That illustrates their range and quality.
Leon Russell, renowned multi-instrumentalist and songwriter who collaborated with the likes of Bob Dylan, George Harrison, the Rolling Stones and Elton John over the course of 50 years in the music industry, died Saturday. He was 74.
Margaret Whitton, known for her roles in 1980s hit comedies “Major League” and “The Secret of My Success,” has died at the age of 67.
She had a short battle with cancer and died peacefully on Sunday in her Palm Beach, Fla. home, her friend and producing partner Steven Tabakin told TheWrap.
Alan Thicke, who played the head of the Seaver family on the popular ABC sitcom Growing Pains, has died, his publicist confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter. He was 69.
The genial actor reportedly had a heart attack while playing hockey with one of his sons. He was transported to a Los Angeles area hospital on Tuesday afternoon and pronounced dead.
While researching for 2017, I found out that Conrad Hilton's son, Eric Hilton has passed away at the age of 83. Now, what's interesting is the fact that Zsa Zsa Gabor would be his step-mother. At this point, I believe she is going to outlive that husband of hers.

Reminds me of this French investor who thought paying an elderly tenant $500 a month until her death on condition that he gets the house was a good deal. He ended up dying at 77 while she lived past 120. Obviously he never got the house. http://articles.chicagotribune.com/1995-...n-christmas-day

It's being reported now that Zsa Zsa Gabor is dead. She was 99 years old. I think everyone had her on their list.
I'm just seeing that now and was gonna post. Yea, she really really hung in there. Almost made it to 100. What's her husband's name (What her 8th husband or so)? He said he's supposedly a "Prince". I don't even know if she had children or not.

that was unexpected, both dying so close like that. RIP carrie, and Debbie. and I suspect they won't find eddie fisher where they are headed, good chance he's down below.
What a shocker/loss for the family. Very very sad.
I haven't seen all her movies BUT really liked her and thought she was very pretty. Aside from Singing In The Rain, I remember Tammy, The Tender Trap, and one I really liked, Say One For Me.
Old timers, remember back in the day EVERY movie magazine cover was Debbie, Eddie and Liz Taylor who Eddie left Debbie for. Huge scandal

Probably not, but they most likely will run into Liz up there.
This entire year just stings, and it will continue to get worse from here on out.
I think it's the most "kills" we had here on the GBB since we started this. Kind of scary when fully 1/3 of your list bites the proverbial dust.
I'm undecided if I'll participate in next year's contest. While it is ghoulishly fun I'm getting a little freaked by it.
Seriously. Even though, I do believe that your list (and everyone else) consisted of mostly 80+ or known ill. A lot of expected people who would eventually face the end soon. If you had a couple of the surprised deaths that happened this year...then yeah, I would fully agree about taking a year off from this.
For some reason, they keep putting Lemmy in 2016. Otherwise, yeah...wow. Also, would this be considered a jinx against Paul and Ringo? Because fuck that!
