Men's Health Issues - 05/21/15 08:32 PM

Yo Gents, Maybe we have some health issues where conversation might be of interest or help. (Don't let the name fool you, I'm a guy).

Recently I have been diagnosed with Spermatocele, an enlargement in the scrotum. Read below for a brief description. You can google it on webmd. I've had it for about 5 years and its been getting bigger. It might be time to get it taken care of. I'm going for an ultrasound next week. I had an ultrsound 4 years ago and it was found to be non-cancerous. Let's hope it stays that way. Anyone have any experience with this condition?

What is a spermatocele?
A spermatocele (epididymal cyst) is a painless, fluid-filled cyst in the long, tightly coiled tube that lies above and behind each testicle (epididymis camera.gif). The fluid in the cyst may contain sperm that are no longer alive. It feels like a smooth, firm lump in the scrotum on top of the testicle.

I've never had one, MC. But from what I've heard, they don't tend to become cancerous over time. Just bigger. So don't sweat it, and just get it taken care of. NOW. Because the bigger it gets, the more it will affect your quality of life (including your golf swing).

I have to stop by my parish tomorrow. There's a Saint Thérèse statue with a candle offering. So expect some roses as a sign of good things to come (What, you think I'd forget a fellow Catholic's favorite Saints? wink ).

@MaryCas,

No experience or knowledge of the condition but definitely follow what the Dos Equis guy said and get it checked out pronto. Just remember that the only thing that gives orders in this world is smile smile

MC, as I'm sure you already know, this isn't a serious or even worrisome condition. Simple outpatient surgery can correct it--but only if it becomes painful or inhibits your movements.

The most annoying thing about a bigger sack was riding my bike. The boys were in conflict with the "nose" of the seat. I bought a nose-less seat called "The Easy Seat". Works well. Only drawback was more weight on the wrists and wobbly balance. You'd be surprised how the nose affects your weight distribution.

Thanks for the comments. I'll be going to the Urologist after the ultrasound. As TB wrote, "isn't serious or even worrisome", just a pain in the a...balls...figuratively speaking. wink

MC, I don't mean to be preachy, but if the noseless seat is affecting your balance on your bike, you could be putting yourself in more danger than you'd experience in having the condition repaired.

Re: Men's Health Issues - 05/24/15 06:16 PM

The key to all these issues is early detection. Changing gears for a moment, I recently got shingles. I had previously had the vaccine but still got them, so be careful and please get the shot. This shit is very painful. Also true- Laughter is the best medicine.

Re: Men's Health Issues - 05/25/15 11:02 AM

For shingles, take Vitamin C with water throughout the day. You also take whatever your doctor prescribes in addition to the vitamin. C is an antiviral.

Not preachy at all. It was an interesting transition. I'm a cautious person by nature. I've adapted. I know what I can and can't do. Anyone having problems in that area should give it a try. I should probably consider switching to a more upright bike (although my bike is a mountain/road bike). $$ are prohibitive at this point, so I don't over extend my balance point.

Seats turn more people off bicycling than anything else. When I was riding, I always tilted the seat slightly backward to take pressure off the perineum.

How dare you make such a thread and not create a "Women's health issues" topic also? You're such a sexist pig.

In all seriousness though. I've heard about this. Does it feel a little too sensitive or even painful when you touch the spot?

Re: Men's Health Issues - 07/20/15 10:01 AM

Not exactly men's health issue more of a general health issue. I have been having lower back pain, on and off for about a yeah. Recently I had a flair up, at first the pain radiated to my knee which was normal it has started to move down towards the front of my foot. I haven't gone to the doctor but with research online and speaking with my cousin (who is a PA) it sounds I have a herniated disk, I won't know for sure until I go see my cousin who is in Florida for the next week. Anyone on here ever have this? I've looked online to look for remedies, mostly stretching and anti inflammatories.

Re: Men's Health Issues - 07/20/15 11:36 AM

Not sure if the same thing but when my back goes out, with simular pain....

I do both Heat and cold on by lower back.

I will do 20 minutes with a heating pad, then a little later do 20 min with a ice pack.

It gives relief.

If I keep to my excersise routines and my sit ups, it does not show up often.

I get it about twice or three times a year, my doc said it come and goes with weight fluxuation, keep off the extra pounds and the back should be fine, for me anyway.

Good luck with it Dude.

Re: Men's Health Issues - 07/20/15 09:28 PM

Thanks Dues. I decided to call in to work today to rest and go to the chiropractor down the street from my house. He told me one of the joints in my back was out of line from an injury a year ago. He realigned that and my pelvis I go back Wednesday for a check up so hopefully I am in the clear.

Nice, thats sounds good.

Are you getting relief from the pain?

Re: Men's Health Issues - 07/21/15 11:36 AM

Yeah yesterday I was more or less pain free but I was icing it 20 on 20 off and doing some stretches he showed me this morning I was stiff and still had a knot in the same spot, I took some Advil and Tylenol seems to do the trick

Back issues are a plague. Did you consider acupuncture? I had acupuncture twice for lower back pain, and it helped somewhat.

I hadn't considered it but, at this point I would be willing to try almost anything. Thanks for the suggestion.

Years ago I saw that a new type of surgical procedure was invented where they have you on your stomach and through a couple of insertions put the discs back in place. Look into that.

Re: Men's Health Issues - 08/28/16 06:55 PM

I'm Sleeping with a BRAND New Man

For years I've been telling my hubby that I think he has sleep apnea. So, FINALLY, he went to see the doctor about one of those breathing machines. Let me tell you, it's like he's a BRAND new guy. He's getting a full night's rest. Before, he was practically choking in his sleep and I'd have to whack his arm to wake him up. He didn't sleep. I didn't sleep. This went on for years.

With that machine, you either wear a small mask over your nose and mouth or you can use the one that goes under your nose. The machine is very small and not loud. At first, it felt like I was sleeping with Darth Vader because I wasn't used to the little bit of white noise the machine made. Only a few times the mask came off from him moving and it sounded like I opened up a car door window. And of course, I had to break his balls a lil about that mask lol. Oh you look so sexy, mask man meow lol. grin But overall that machine has made a world of difference!!

So if any of you think you may have sleep apnea go to the doc and get one of those machines.

Re: Men's Health Issues - 08/28/16 07:10 PM

AG, I too have sleep apnea. The sleep study was intense. They put you in hotel style room in the Hospital and wire you up and down your who;e body then they tell you that you will be monitored by video and sound and then they say now go to sleep. That was tough sleeping with all that gear on. After a few days the Doctor said i stopped breathing a lot of times during my test. It took me a long while to get used to the mask but, now, I can't sleep without it. I take it with me everywhere. even if I take a nap i use it. I feel so much better. Yeah the jokes are out there but, you know what I am more rested and feel better. I hope he's changing the filters, hose, mask regularly. Glad to hear that your husband is doing well with it. It does save lives.

Re: Men's Health Issues - 08/28/16 07:26 PM

You don't have to go to the sleep lab anymore. I guess now they monitor you right from home through wifi. The machine sends info to the company about one hour after using it. You create a web page for yourself that shows how many episodes you had during the night, how many times the mask came off, etc. It monitors everything. Then, the doctor can check in to see what he needs to see.

Yes, he is good about cleaning and changing everything.

I'm glad that you are using the mask and getting a good night's rest, Beans.

Re: Men's Health Issues - 08/28/16 07:31 PM

I tell my friends and family members all about this when they start to complain about not sleeping right or their spouses complain about their snoring. It can cause heart attacks and you can even die. This new system then sounds great. I don't know why people don't do it. Thanks for making it aware here. Maybe someone who is experiencing the same will appreciate it down the line. I know I did!

Re: Men's Health Issues - 08/29/16 06:13 AM

Sure Beans, anytime. I think most men do NOT want to have to go to the sleep lab. With this new machine allowing them to be monitored at home, it makes it so easy. There's no excuse why they shouldn't try it. But of course, it's like anything else, we women can't push it. They have to be ready and commit to it. It's a win-win for everybody. Being healthy is so important.

Re: Men's Health Issues - 09/16/16 03:24 AM

I once had sleep apnea and was given the machine- this was 15 years ago and the mask was rather large- not like the ones of today. I used it for around a year with no problems, but then suddenly I stopped snoring as I had lost a lot of weight, so now the machine sits in my garage collecting dust.
Regarding the issue of cycling with enlarged testicles, I used to race bikes too and you should see the doctor but also experiment with raising and lowering the nose of the saddle and see if any one position gives you relief. good luck to you sir

The weather is warming up so that means it's time to protect your skin from too much sun. For the past couple of years, I've been using Aveeno lotion with the SPF 15. I highly recommend it. So, do yourself a favor, buy it, use it daily. Moisturizes too. cool Please us women for a change. We don't like to nag at you men to use sunscreen lol

Funny you should mention that. Soccer America a on line football news in it a women doctor wrote make sure the kids use sun screen. They must think we as coaches are stupid and don't know to make sure all the players wear it. We find a spot early in the shade and they stay their between games. We even send them in groups to go to the bathroom. All we have to do is lose one of them forgetabout it. I don't know which one I have it's like a 50. Always put it on exposed areas back of the neck, nose, I wear a hat with a shade. We always make sure my grandkids are covered in it. When they are in the pool or go to the beach same thing. I don't have to worry about looking pale. My mother looked black when she was in the sun.

Glad you use common sense. From my observation most men don't bother with sunblock and have to be reminded by us females. My kids don't burn but I still put a 30 or 50 on them depending how long they'll be out in the sun. I use a 35 on my face daily. Years ago we would use a 2 spf or baby oil uhwhat Never sunblock.

This Aveeno lotion I'm talking about is non-greasy and does the job if you are in and out of the sun during the day. When playing sports or going to the pool or beach, it would be best to use sunblock. smile

Before long sleeve FR shirts became mandatory I would have the worst farmers tan! LOL

These days with long sleeves being mandatory, I don't get any sun no more

Re: Men's Health Issues - 04/21/17 12:14 PM

That's cause real men don't need any sunblock. We ain't scared of the sun! Sunblock is for woman and children. lol

Seriously though I don't use it only because I cant stand the feel of it on my skin. I would rather burn than have that oily sticky feeling. Once you burn though and it goes away it makes a nice base tan for the rest of the season.

Before leaving the urologist's office yesterday, I had to schedule a "procedure". The schedule guy says, "how's your day sir?" "Considering I just had to explain to three different people the problems I'm having with my prick, the doctor sticking his fingers up my ass, and now I have to have a scoping of my prick. I must say I have had better days."
