Louisiana Crab and Crawfish Boil

Louisiana Crab and Crawfish Boil - 04/17/15 09:49 AM

Hey guys, I was wondering if any of you could give me some feedback on the respective areas you live in. Can you get Louisiana Crab and Crawfish boil at any convenience store or Wal Mart?

I have been shipping it in bulk to a few military friends in Hawaii and I think I am on to something marketing wise. I know most people use generic Old Bay boil, but it isn't anything in flavor compared to what we have down here. Thanks!

A man is going ice fishing. He drills a hole in the ice and hears a booming voice, "There's no fish in there!"

He begins to drill another hole and again hears the voice, "Stop drilling, there's no fish there!"

He drills a third hole and the voice sounds again, "You aren't going to find any fish there!"

The fisherman, frightened, asks, "Is this God?"

The booming voice yells back, "No! I'm the rink manager!" smile

I have half of Hawaii begging me for this stuff I'm shipping it out once a week.

If anyone wants a sample give me an address and I'll ship some to you. One bag and you will be hooked.

I'll have to look tomorrow and see if we have that brand. I'm pretty sure I can find it here locally since we are not that far apart.

I know I've been ready for some mud bugs. Haven't had a good set in a LONG time!

I was actually in that crap hole walmart today but forgot to look. They did have some frozen mudbugs sold out of Louisiana but on the back said "a product of China". Can't believe people fall for that crap! lol

I can't believe people actually eat that!

Word of mouth, I don't know if it is true or not so don't quote me, but you know how crabs, crawfish, etc are bottom feeders? I heard in China they put those things in the sanitation tanks to quicken the process. So basically China crawfish are literally eating human shit all day then they take them out, process, then ship that stuff here.

So if you eat that, you are basically eating Chinese shit. And I mean that literally.

LMAO that's enough to put me off crawfish forever lol
The only variant we get in Europe of the stuff is the Chinese one, or one somewhere from Southeast Asia. But I'm not up for Indian shit either lol

Sounds good to me, Lou. One day i'll get around to see what CajunLand has to offer. I know this may sound touristy, but i would like to check out what Mardi Gras is all about.

How much does a bag cost?

Re: Louisiana Crab and Crawfish Boil - 05/09/15 06:11 PM

Inexpensive man like $5 dollars for a huge bag, but it's on me.

Primo, let me know when you get the package, I'm not sure how long it takes stuff to reach you.

Re: Louisiana Crab and Crawfish Boil - 05/15/15 01:38 PM

LaLouisiane - I'm in the San Francisco Bay Area and that boil is available at our local "Lucky's" supermarkets. They also have other products by the same brand - a blackening blend and fish fry. The store near me used to have tanks with live catfish and I'd regularly get them to dress a couple and I'd alternate using the blackening or fry mix. I think they were pressured to get rid of the tanks because they were "inhumane".

Anyway it's available this far out west but it might be cost prohibitive to sell in Hawaii.

Last week I went to a New Orleans wedding. But it was a four day party. We arrived on day 2 for the Crawfish boil at the Courtyard ?? on Erato St. It was a craft beer place. I had 5 Crawfish. My lips were on fire. Thank God for cold beer. I could have fought thru the spice, but eating those crawfish reminded me of the last time I puked. July 2000, Maryland crab, food poisoning. I was on vacation and sick for 3 days. NOLA was great. Loved the Jambalaya and Gumbo.

Gumbo is my favorite, but I never turn down any "good" mudbugs. Of course I like anything spicy as well. The hotter the better.

They sale pre made roux for gumbo down here dixie, let me know if you can find that up there, if not I can ship you some.

Re: Louisiana Crab and Crawfish Boil - 05/20/15 05:39 PM

Yea I can get ahold of some mix and make it myself, it's actually not that bad. Nothing like some chicken and sausage gumbo. Of course I had to ask my Mother for some help when making it myself for the first time lol

Entergy fed us some after Isaac from a local Kenner restaurant, their roux was very dark and strong which I liked. I'm guessing they made file gumbo? Have you ever tried file seasoning? It did feel darker and thicker than normal roux.

No muffalatta. But I did have a great Shrimp Po'Boy. I'm not a spice guy. I like to taste the food. And it doesn't sit well in my stomach. Visited the WWII museum. Very impressive. It still under construction, but what they had was top notch. Jogged along the Mississippi 3 mornings. Would love to go back someday.

Re: Louisiana Crab and Crawfish Boil - 05/21/15 08:12 PM

Wait, MaryCas I thought you was a woman? lol

But yea I wouldn't recommend Creole food to anyone that doesn't like spicy food. You would have been better off getting the Muffaletta honestly. Nobody should go to New Orleans to eat if you don't like spicy food. Just a friendly warning to anyone thinking about going. Most of the South really likes to heat things up. Here it's our BBQ. Louisiana, MS, and Bama Gulf Coast likes to spice up about everything but their drinks lol

My parents tell me I'm half Creole since I like going so much. Storm work in Louisiana always pays off for me shhh

What's in a name? lol Male, 65, married 43 years. One daughter, twin grandkids. Used to climb poles as a Telco lineman/splicer. If storms ever bring you to South Jersey maybe we can connect.

Well shit I need to pay attention more! lol No offense of course, I just seen the name and always thought you were and never even paid attention to the posts (I mean I read your posts but it never clicked if you know what I mean).

Our company had some crews working for Jersey Central Power & Light on Sandy, but other than that I'm not sure we have been up there much. It seems when I go North it is always for National Grid in Massachusetts or Rhode Island. Closest I've come to your area is Long Island and that is when National Grid ran LIPA for New York and since PSE&G took over we don't handle them anymore. I hope to visit the area though since my Grandmother's side is from Camden. I will holler at you for sure though if we ever get up that way!

So you climbed too eh? You kind of know what I go through except the gloves and sleeves. Other than that our jobs was about the same. I'm glad I don't have to climb much anymore, I'm too old for that shit!lol I'm only 35 but been in it since 18 so people think I don't have much experience but half my life has been spent on a line crew so that's a long time. I just wished I would have stayed with the same company the whole time as I'd be ready to retire in a few years but my retirement wont be too bad though. Even if I was done I'd find something to get back into it part time so I couldn't quit or retire even if I wanted to. Love the job too much.
