It was $1.79 yesterday; today it's $1.69.

Last I seen it was $2.11 but I haven't went to town in a day or two.

Cost me $43 to tank up my truck yesterday. big difference from $75 a month ago!!

I don't drive too much (although I do have a sweet ride, I admit) but it looks like from what I catch in the headlines Saudi Arabia really did us a solid!

Maybe not Barrett. If the Saudi price for crude keeps going down, the fracking and other USA oil operations may shut down because the Saudi stuff will be too cheap to beat. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Well it's $2.39 here and it's great! I have a small compact car and usually $20 would give me almost a half tank. I nearly a full tank. Love it!!

Market down 330. If you got a retirement you are going to lose alot more than you gain with the cheaper fill-ups. Unless you race monster cars maybe.

The market is still near a record high, and hit record highs the last 2 months as oil tumbled. I don't think sub $50 a barrel oil is gonna have too many negative long term effects on the market. My mutual funds have recently made up all the money they lost during the Bush recession.

I hope you're not complaining, MC. There is only one gas station in my town and it's charging $2.69. The cheapest place near here is three miles away and it's $2.55.

It is weird. I went to Atlantic City last week, and gas was more expensive down there, than up here.

Oil's at $46/47 per barrel. I don't think it's been that low since the 80s. In any case, gas here is at $1.64.

I forgot. It dropped to about $12 in the 90s.

Since gas is so low. What if Obama wants to raise the tax on gas to help pay for new road construction and for head start?

Where I live the government is taxing the SHIT out of gas, it's ridiculous... I'm pretty sure the key guys on top have a good racket going on, reminds me of the infamous NY gas tax scheme that made the mob millions.
Avg price in the world is like 1.07$ per liter. Here we still pay 1.4$ per liter... unbelievable.

This was intentional, the Arabs are slashing crude prices because they're terrified of the domestic fracking and the market share their going to lose. They want to keep us dependent on their crude. Talked to some guys in the past few days that are heavily invested in the gas/oil industry and they're none too happy....

Paid $2.29 for gas in NJ, while it's $2.89 by my house on Staten Island.

If the price of gas is going down. Then why isn't the price of food going down instead of up?

Every state have different blends of gas. That drives prices up.

If you took the most expensive blend of gas and used it throughout the U.S. The would knock down the price of gas. But they won't do it?

Got gas at Sam's Club in Fountain Valley for $2.59/gal a couple days ago.

Gas is going down and yet the price of food is not. Cost of food goes up when it costs more to ship. So why isn't the price of food not going down?

The prices should have been adjusted with 2-3 quarters of lower gas prices, but unless consumers stop buying the product...price isn't going to budge.

And when it does drop, an eagle eye will notice that the size of the product package is smaller also.

I am the one who buys the groceries, but I do it on line so I notice the price changes. More then the average person who goes to the big store to buy them.

Going to the local mom and pop store. That is when you really see when you buy a small tray. How much smaller they are now at an even higher price then they were before.

U.S. oil prices joined the global benchmark at levels last seen in 2004, hammered by the market turmoil in China, the world’s second-biggest consumer of the fuel.

Worries about slowing economic growth, especially in China, are helping to drive the sharp drop in crude prices. With producers in the U.S. and Mideast still pumping oil at a fast clip, a drop-off in demand would add to the global supply glut that has shaved about 70% off prices over the past 18 months.

The U.S. benchmark crude-oil contract tumbled 70 cents, or 2.1%, to $33.27 a barrel Thursday on the New York Mercantile Exchange. That is the lowest close since February 2004.

Just a month ago, oil markets were preoccupied with the idea of oil staying below $40 a barrel. Now a number of analysts say $30 a barrel is the next stop for the battered commodity.

“It looks more likely than not that we will drop below $30,” said Chris Main, oil strategist at Citigroup. “And with fundamentals looking pretty terrible, we could stay there for a couple of months.”

Some analysts are even calling for oil to drop into the $20-a-barrel range, a view that grabbed headlines back in September when it was espoused by Goldman Sachs analysts. At that time, the investment bank was a rare outlier. Then, the average forecast of 12 investment banks polled by The Wall Street Journal was for $47 a barrel in the first quarter of this year.

Wall Street and industry analysts have repeatedly been proved wrong during the oil rout, whose speed and scope have defied even the most pessimistic forecasts.

“Demand won’t be coming to the rescue this time, with China and the way the world economy is shaping up,” said Doug King, chief investment officer at RCMA Asset Management and manager of that firm’s $225 million Merchant Commodity hedge fund. China consumes about 12% of the world’s oil, making it the world’s No. 2 user after the U.S.

You do know that there was no such thing as "trickle down," right? There was "Supply Side economics" if that's what you mean. And when it was applied during the Coolidge, Kennedy/Johnson and Reagan administrations it did work. You probably don't realize that "the rich" pay most of the taxes and when they get to keep more of the money they earn it results in investments (which creates jobs), purchases (which creates jobs), or savings (which creates investments which creates jobs). Or maybe that a lot of outsourcing actually saves companies from going bankrupt because their margins are so slim between taxes, fees and regulations. Have you ever owned a business? Do you know the risks and liabilities in owning a business, and that in a lot of start-ups the owners may end up paying themselves less then their employees? A lot of businesses shut down in the first couple of years for a lot of reasons, which can mean that owners and investors can face losing a lot of money? Let's face it, Republicans want to let more people keep what they earn and Democrats want to take it from their pockets and purses and give it to themselves and their constituents. BTW, I'm an independent.

A lot of companies are cost cutting now. They are laying off people. There not leaving the country they are just down sizing. They are not spending money to expand.

You better be an important worker to the company or your going to be let go.

I could be wrong on this but the story with 47 cents a gallon. Was two rival gas stations were under cutting each other for business and it got out of hand.

Years ago it happened with two rival hotdog stands. Hot dogs were selling for 25 cents a piece.

California sucks when it comes to gas prices. While the rest of the country is experiencing really cheap gas, we're still paying closer to $3.00 a gallon in most places. We have the highest gas tax in the nation and we have to have our own special blends that cost more. Then the ethanol subsidy jacks up prices even more while increasing engine wear.

I believe it, going back to the prices of the first season of the Sopranos.

Tesla and other electric cars are becoming main stream. Hybrid cars (Formerly pussy cars) are in exotics such as Ferrari and Porsche.
Who owns oil companies? There's a family or two out in Texas I could think of. Let's drop the prices, people will move away from eclectic cars and buy gas guzzling SUVs, then when electric car companies go out of business... Boom raise the prices.

It's being proposed but Governor Christie swears he won't sign the bill into law. The proposed bill will raise the tax by 23¢ per gallon.

That's NJ State tax. Same here. Texas imposes a $0.20 per gallon tax. Note that the Texas federal tax is $0.184.
