Bermuda?

Bermuda? - 10/15/14 06:34 PM

Anybody ever been to Bermuda? Do you need a passport to fly there? They thinking we might get some work from Hurricane Gonzalo as Bermuda will take a direct hit but some of my higher ups are saying I need a passport and of course can't get one quick enough to go. I know as well sometimes they will waive this for workers in emergency situations too as I had some friends in the 90's go to the Virgin Islands or something like that as they shipped their buckets by barge there. Have the same setup here but I figured someone here might know or have traveled there before.

Anybody got anything?

Years ago a US citizen could get in with just a state issued id card. But you need a passport today. 9/11 and all that.

Thanks! I know sometimes they will waive that to get countries help so I'm not sure if they'll do it or not. It's a waiting game now. Was hoping Hawaii would call! lol

Hang on Dix and good luck with storm chasing. Hard to remember that Hurricane Sandie hit Jersey the end of October. I guess Hawaii would be better than ice storm damage in upstate New York in January. panic

Actually I would take New York over Hawaii, we make more per hour there lol

We visited Bermuda four of five times (most recently 1989). Closest place to paradise we've ever visited. Very nice people, too.

Bermuda may not be Maui, but it's gorgeous in its own right. Great golf courses grin.

Dixie,

What you have to do is contact a passport agency I am sure there is one in New Orleans and make an appointment. Just google passport agency Louisiana. If you can show that you are travelling within two weeks, they will give you a passport the same or next day. You need to fill out the application, have your old passport if you have one, two passport pictures and a birth certificate and other ID. It costs close to 200 for the expedited processing but you get is asap. Good luck.

I get what you're saying, DeNiro. Most people who work in travel and tourism are putting on a show. But if they seem pleasant, what's the difference? I mean, you're never going to see them again. Right?

Conversely, as an American who has visited France, I can tell you that they don't even bother to put on a show for us. No matter how much money we're spending. They don't like us and they make no bones about it. At least in the Caribbean they're willing to "fake" it smile.

Pizza man I've been to France before and not just Paris where most of the arrogant snobs reside. Go to Normandy or the Lorraine Valley, they love Americans there. They still haven't forgotten what we did for em in the World Wars

I went to Bermuda on my honeymoon...43 years ago. 7 days and 6 nights - $360, included breakfast and dinner at the Elbow Beach Hotel. I think the flight was under $300 for both of us. The locals were very nice - fakin' or not. I think it would be neat to go there for the 50th...if we make it. Maybe they would give us a discount. tongue

Re: Bermuda? - 10/16/14 06:09 PM

Now I just had another company call wanting to know about my passport situation. Can possibly get one in 72 hours I found out, but nobody wants to tell us if we have a legit shot at going or not and nobody I know at both companies have a passport either so I'm not sure WTF is going on. We could have already had them on the way if these assholes would tell us something. I won't be going out of country so I don't need one period unless for things like this. Who knows what will happen...

I also found out if you are on a cruise ship you DON'T need a passport and I would imagine they would have to ship some kind of vehicles for us there to use to transport material so that could be a way around it too so like I said above who the hell knows at this point.

Dixie, I've been on cruises to the Caribbean since the rules changed, and I've had to bring my passport, so I'm not sure where you heard that.

I think I read that on Bermuda's site but could be wrong. Like I said I know nothing about all of this.

Looks like now Bermuda's utility is mainly calling companies from the Caribbean to help (mainly the British owned ones) so I don't see any of our crews going period at this point. They didn't even take their full crews and crazy enough BELCO didn't even have all the lights back on from T.S. Fay that hit about a week ago. Going to be a long few weeks for Bermuda I imagine.

Back on topic. I think SB is right, Dix. They check for passports now on cruises.

Well it's all moot anyways, they only had like 27,000 outages so that is not enough to get us out even though that is almost half the island.
