iPhone 6 & 6 Plus - 09/19/14 03:20 PM

Is anyone planning on falling into this trap?

Personally, I try not to fall into the vicious cycle of upgrading every single year. But the changes from the 5 to the 6 seem to be significant, and the idea of that plus size screen and almost paper thin body are very appealing, so I'm giving it some thought.

I know Geoffy is a big Apple guy. What do you think, buddy?

Re: iPhone 6 & 6 Plus - 09/19/14 03:38 PM

I currently have the iPhone 5 and it's a good phone, there's nothing wrong with it but my contract is up in November and I'm definitely upgrading to the iPhone 6 Plus. I can't wait! I'm a little worried about how big it'll be in my pockets but that's really my only concern. If you are thinking of getting either of the new iPhones, wait until the first batch has already sold out. The first batch of anything technological is always buggy.

After using a TracFone the last 10 years for travel and my landline at home, I just went totally "cellular" last month. I purchased an Apple 5c which I thought was the latest model. That lasted 3 weeks. lol I am very happy with it. It goes with me everywhere and I'm learning many of the features. I am sure I won't be rushing out to get the 6 any time soon.

I know. I remember staying in line for concerts or to see a movie. Who would have thought someday people would wait overnight in line for a phone. lol The times, they are a-changing. lol

Btw, I learned if you ever want help with electronics, ask the young. I was at a Grandparents Day program at a school for my grandkids. I THOUGHT, with my new phone, I was filming a short video. When I went to show my 7 yr old grandson, I discovered I recorded nothing. He said "you do this grandma" and taught me how to video. lol

I remember waiting on line for "Wild Life," by Paul McCartney and Wings. But I was about twelve years old at the time lol.

I remember when that album came out like it was yesterday, DeNiro. I was 12 years old and I took two buses up to Sam Goody's in Yonkers to buy it.

Now "Band on the Run" was a MUCH better album overall. But the expectation for "Wild Life" was much bigger, being that it was Paul's "comeback" album. That's how I remember it, anyway. But like I said, I was twelve years old. Maybe Tis remembers it differently.

Of course, you weren't even a thought in 1971. But you're a Brit, so I figured you'd enjoy that little piece of my personal history lol.

When did everyone get so attached to having a phone with them? I may be overly old-fashioned but I just don't understand the attraction to having a phone connected to my face 24 hours a day.

I was out socially two weeks ago. A group of twenty people (ages ran from 20s through 60s). All but myself and one couple had phones in front of themselves and some seemed to be checking them every few minutes. You're SOCIALIZING ..... do it with the people in the same room as yourself! uhwhat

I'm thinking about checking out the new iPhone 6 myself. But i always say that when the new model comes out and so far i've never owned one.

I remember when Windows 98 first came out Best Buy opened at midnight and there was a pretty massive line of people waiting to get it. We were driving by and we asked someone why everyone was there and one girl screamed "for WIN98"! So i asked her couldn't you wait until the next day, do you really need it at 1am in the morning? lol

Ha ha Windows98 too funny, Microsoft SUCKS if you ask me. The only time I lose my temper is when I have to do something with Windows on the computer. My kids have Windows 8 on their gaming computer and that software is so f'd up that I lose the screen I'm on all the time. It just vanishes. APPLE is the best. I am definitely getting an iPhone 6 but gonna wait a month or so.

I've been using a Toshiba Chromebook for my everyday Internet needs for the better part of a year now. Between that and my iPhone 5, I don't think I've been on my desktop three times in the past six months.

Another good thing about the iPhone is its ability to serve as a hotspot. When we're in Florida, the free wifi at our condo blocks this site (among others), so for years I couldn't post much from down there. But now all I have to do is add the Sprint hotspot and use it selectively when I need to check a blocked site. The download speed is fast enough for all of my basic Internet needs.

My LG G2 would run circles around an iPhone.

I don't understand why so many peoples lives revolve around a telephone. I have a basic cell phone which lets me make and receive calls and that's all I need. I get along just fine. Last night at dinner, I noticed that half of the people there had a phone up to their ear or sitting in front of them. What is so important that it can't wait a while- except for maybe a murder contract lol

Same here. I just recently caved in and bought my first smartphone (Samsung Galaxy S4) and I love it. My mother in law had an extra iPhone 5 and I tried it out for a while, and I hated it. The interface is confusing, lack of customization options, and I always felt so restricted while using it.

Android all the way for me, too.

I've been using iPhones since they first came out in 2007, and just got the iPhone 6 (and am quite happy with it). I don't get a new one every year, but every 2 years (I've had iPhone 1, 3GS, 4, 5, 6)

Here's the first one next to my newest one -- the 4.7" size is finally just right!

I think the 6 Plus (5.5") would be too big for me -- I like to keep it in my pants or interior jacket pocket, and this still fits even in a shirt pocket.

Are these phones perfect? Of course not -- no smartphone is perfect. But it fits my needs, and I'm generally happy with it. I can't bash Android because I've never used one, tho many bash Apple having never used one, either. Hmm. wink

I also am happily stuck with AT&T as I'm grandfathered-in with an unlimited data plan that I can never give up at this point!

I didn't read thru the answers yet, but right off the bat I gotta say the iPhone 6 plus has a tendency to bend easy. Call me boring, but I always stay a model or 2 behind so I know I'm getting it after all the problems are worked out.
Plus I just switched from iPhone to galaxy and I have zero complaints. All this shit apple is doing has been the standard for years with androids

The devs of this software were supposed to incorporate Tapatalk a while ago, but updates have been almost non-existent. Sadly, I wish I had decided on a different software solution those many years ago... ohwell

Yea some are just too damn big and are getting almost the size of a tablet. My LG G2 is like 5.2" and I really don't care to get any bigger. It's perfect to read stuff on it when traveling and can still fit in my pocket with no problems. I couldn't imagine going bigger with any phone honestly. I'll either stick with LG or go to Samsung when my time is up. (LG came out with a G3 but I hear it is not as good as the G2)

I used to hate the idea of a contract. Now, 4 cell phones later, bought and paid for, and completely obsolete, I now see the value in being about to trade in and trade up.

I'm not into "Phablets", they're too big. My phone of choice is iPhone 5S. The right size, the right look, the right power. Get the one you want. But if you buy it outright, then you have to unload some outdated swag. wink

What's hysterical is, for twenty years they poured billions of dollars into developing cell phones that got smaller and smaller, and now they're making them bigger and bigger. The new Nexus is six inches. Tablets start at seven. It's ridiculous. My thinking is, I'm almost better off keeping my tablet with me at all times and going back to a small clamshell phone. I know I'm old and cranky, but I doubt I'm alone in feeling this way.

Oldie but goodie I agree with you. I always liked the little flip phones.
They should just sell a lil mini sized flip phone to hang up on the side or top of a tablet to use for strictly talking nothing else. When not in use it stays hooked onto the tablet charging.

Hey I had that phone it was heavy. What year was that 97?

I got my first phone in 95. Back then you either picked LA Cellular or PacBell. I chose LA Cellular (which is now AT&T) cuz you could get reception in and around Vegas since I always ventured that way.

lol How long was the battery life? 2 hrs ha ha. If you forgot your charger you were f'd. I remember having it plugged into my car charger to talk hardly ever remember not having it connected.

My friend had a cell phone back in 1990 now that thing was HUGE lol. My home cordless phone was smaller than that one.

To correct myself above: I think it was AirTouch vs. LA Cellular something like that.

I got my first cell phone in 1989, a few years before they became the norm. It was a Motorola about the size of a VHS tape, but a little narrower. By '93, or '94 the smaller flip phones were starting to become popular, and by the mid or late '90s the Motorola StarTAC seemed so far out that it may as well have come off the USS Enterprise. We've come a long way since Maxwell Smart and his shoe phone (which to a grade school kid in the '60s was just about the coolest thing ever).

Re: iPhone 6 & 6 Plus - 03/16/15 05:18 PM

Yes those Motorolas in the '90's were huge. You could even get the extended battery which made it even bigger. Everyone carried it in their back pocket. it was definitely the size of a brick with an antenna sticking out of it. The nextels were the best and my favorite. I don't know what happened to that technology. it always worked.

lol The size of a VHS tape no joke. I'm picturing you with a pager maybe even two pagers on u and ur phone constantly attached to your ear cuz back then you only had a phone for one reason, to conduct business. What was reception like in the city? Could you even get good reception there?

I grew up watching the Jetsons. So much of the tech on that show is in use today. It's almost unbelievable.

Over here in OC & LA I don't think anyone put it in their back pocket they held it to show that they had a phone and you didn't.

My friend had to keep an extra battery with her at all times. We were 19 driving all around OC, Hollyweird, and LA so it was good we had a phone.

What ever did happen to Nextel?

Re: iPhone 6 & 6 Plus - 03/16/15 07:00 PM

That's the phone, Mark! lol

But I made my first trip to Florida as a little kid in the '60s, pre-Disney. My grandparents had a place in Palm Beach County at the time. But if you were a kid back then (and again, this is before the arrival of Mickey, Goofy and Snow White), all you wanted to see in Florida was Cape Kennedy and Sea World, which were both up north.

My Dad would rent a car, and we'd make the drive up every time. We'd stay in one of those funky old motels on A1A, pick up a rubber alligator and one of those little plastic orange juice squeeze things (that never really worked), and it seemed great. Today a kid would be bored to tears, but we liked it fine smile.

And prior to the tanning booth generation (and the kids on "Jersey Shore" can't even be blamed because they weren't even born yet when those things came out in the '80s), so was the suntan. The February tan was the ultimate status symbol back then. Just think of Cliff Clavin going on and on about his Florida tan on "Cheers," and multiply the obnoxiousness by a hundred.

Oh, yeah! The winter tan thing. My buddy I grew up with was a pollack and his folks were loaded. Every year over the Christmas Holidays they would go out to either California, Florida or Las Vegas for a couple weeks and come back "tanned". He would be all Cliff Clavin about it until one of the girls in CCD class asked him if I went along with him. He was not very happy.

My grandfather was from Palermo and he passed a long that year round "dark Dago" thing. lol

My pollack pal strutted through the halls of St. Dominick's a bit more humbled! lol

Edit: Apologies for the off topic posts, guys. It's all pizzaboy's fault! He gets me wound up and we go off the charts.

Can't find an image, AG.
However, I'll try to paint a mental picture... imagine a hollow plastic sippy cup type thing filled with OJ and the screw on cap is like a green stem with a straw.

Now that was a status symbol lol

I remember my best friend got a flip phone around 96 when we hit driving age. Only display it had was the orange numbers you dialed.

I didn't get my first one until 99 for work then I regretted it because in those days we had roaming and it seemed the bastard was always on roaming and they would charge the crap out of you for it. I was sooooo glad when they got rid of that.
Posted By: Alfanosgirl

Re: iPhone 6 & 6 Plus - 03/18/15 06:30 PM

Oh yes the roaming charges and all the other fees they used to hit you with. I remember being in the city (NYC) in 2002 and trying to meet up with my sis in midtown. She is the type of person who calls you just to tell you she is going to call if you know what I mean, a waster. So I texted her where I was and she had to call me to tell me that she can see me. No shit! I told her you dummie you just made me pay AT&T $10 just so you can tell me that. Why didn't you just shout to me and wave your hands all around ... Money waster lol.

As soon as I got back to CA I signed up for the coast to coast nation calling plan or whatever it was called so no extra fees.

This isn't the organized crime section. It's General Discussion, where we help each other out with mundane questions (such as modern electronics, and other things lost on old farts like me).

But just for the record, go ask Greg DePalma how much good a throwaway phone did for him? Oops, you can't. Because he died in jail for using one.

Yeah, he told him that it was untraceable because it was a throwaway.

Mark my words, the day will come when the Feds get into the untraceable/no-contract phone business, for just such occasions.

I recently switched from android to Apple and am loving it. Rocking a new iPhone 5S in gold. Waiting for the cell phone cases I ordered to come through the mail.

This phone does not stall, or crash, and the apps open lightening quick. No more missing out on identifying a great tune because Shazam wouldn't open fast enough or connect.

You can't beat the camera of an iPhone, and let's face it, these are cameras just as much as they are phones. If the camera takes crapola shots...why, just why?

The internet on the Apple is crazy. The reception is perfect for the WiFi. That comes in handy when you need it.

Any Tom Dick or Harry can cook up an app for Android. There is no quality control. Some of the Android apps will freeze up the phone, or the app will crash and you'll have to restart the phone just to boot up the app. You are downloading sketchy apps from anonymous authors for free...and they are still a rip off. With Apple, the apps go through strict quality control to make them fully compatible with the phone.

The way I see it is, Android is more for kids. If you need your phone for business purposes, you better get an iPhone or something comparable. If your phone is something you depend on when you travel, you better get an iPhone or something comparable.

I'm have the complete opposite opinion. I strongly dislike Android products. I think people who use Android phones do it just to be "cool" or "different". Android people "don't follow the crowd like the rest of the sheep." However, iPhones are far superior to any android phone you can buy. Android phones get pop ups and viruses, unlike iPhones. Android phones lock up and freeze, unlike iPhones. Android phones are convoluted with all sorts of folders ect... iPhones are simple and to the point. iPhones have an easy to access folder containing pictures for example. iTunes and the App Store are the best music and game application store of any smart phone. The App Store has quality control unlike any store found on Android devices. The App Store is far superior to anything else. The touch screens on iPhones are much better and more responsive than any other smart phone. Cameras on the iPhone are far superior than those on Android phones. I can tell when someone takes a picture on an Android phone because it looks like someone sneezed ranch dressing on the lens of the camera. Bottom line, iPhone is a much better, far more reliable phone than any Android phone.

You will find PLENTY that will dispute that including myself. Hell my Droid had a better camera than an iPhone and the Droid was garbage. And of course the Android's will have popups on most apps, they are free! You keep dishing out your money for the same apps I can get for free. That's why I have free pop up blockers and anti-virus (never had a virus on ANY of my Android's) so I never have to deal with them either. As for a touch screen my nephew has an iPhone and my LG G2 blows his away. The camera is better, when it comes to running videos (especially in HD) mine smokes his and I could go on and on. I even cut my phone on by tapping the screen twice so it would have to be pretty sensitive to pick all of that up but it does with no problem.

There are better phones out there on both platforms.

So what you're trying to say is that the iPhone is the norm? So anybody who deosn't buy their blatantly overpriced products is deviating from the norm and trying to "look cool?"

No two people on this earth are THAT different. If you keep that in mind, and we BOTH learn to bite our tongues once in a while, I think we can eventually learn to treat each other with respect.

Some of my closest friends and allies on these boards started out as the exact opposite. We worked things out through pms and moved on. Now, realistically, you and I will probably never be friends, even in the online sense. But there's absolutely no reason why we can't respect each other and treat each other civilly.

That's my olive branch to you. Before my Dad got sick, it would have been impossible for me to make this post. But life's too short, man. It's too fucking short. Especially for the bullshit.

Okay, I believe that was sincere, and that's a start. So, moving forward, let's both keep this particular exchange in mind smile.

Now, back on topic. A neighbor kid recently bought the LG G3, but he got locked into a contract and got the thing disconnected (read the fine print, boys). The phone goes for like $600, and it was like brand new. So I took a chance and bought it off the kid for a hundred bucks. It took a little doing, but I finally found a small cellular store in the mid-Bronx willing to "unlock" it.

He charged me fifty bucks to do it, then he put in a T-Mobile prepaid sim. $80 a month for unlimited talk, text, and data. I never had an android phone before (although I have an ASUS tablet), and my iPhone is still my "go-to" phone for now. But this LG G3 is a helluva phone. My only beef is that it's a little too big.

Re: iPhone 6 & 6 Plus - 06/23/15 11:22 PM

The LG G4 came out this week. And according to most articles, it blows the iPhone 6 away. Not that it will change anyone's mind. Because most tech geeks are as extreme in their position (Android vs iOS) as some political types are in theirs (Left vs Right).

I have iPhones but not at all a team guy or give a rats ass for Apple or any other company, I think they just made it easier for all the devices to Jive.

My phones and ipad sync with my computer, they update and share all the info or contacts / content , very convenient for work and play.

I am sure the others do that too.

@DP,

Good point about convenience and ease. I was just saying that when I ask my designated tech friends questions about products, unless it's Samsung or Apple they won't even give me advice or opinion of the specs/features.

Scam. I had insurance against theft and my phone got stolen. I had to prove it got stolen, by sending the insurance company paperwork from the police. Even after that it wasn't enough to get my money back. Apparently the circumstances in which my phone was stolen was not a reason for them to refund my phone. Waste of paying a year of insurance.

I agree. I was just asking to see what everyone else thought. To me, it's on par with car rental insurance.

The big four here in the U.S. (Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile and AT&T) all charge roughly $14 a month for coverage. Now, if you take a two-year contract, that's an extra $336 right there. Plus, there's a deductible.

I'd rather invest thirty or forty bucks into a high-quality case and take my chances. And if you LOSE your phone, then, I'm sorry, but that's on you lol.

Agreed 100%! I bought an Otter Box for my G2 (which sucked) and I have since bought a Trident for it that works 100x better. I'd much rather spend the money on a great case than to drop my phone and break it. My nephew can't keep a decent phone because "he doesn't like the case" and of course he needs a new phone now and mine is 2 years old and looks almost brand new because it went into a case right away.

Nowadays you also have those glass screenprotectors. If you dont like a case you can always use them. They atleast prevent most of the damage on your screen and arent that expensive either.

I bought that iPhone case protector for my phone, see my previous post on here. That case is TOUGH. Yesterday, I went to one of those kid jumpy places, had my phone clipped to my shorts. Jumped up and down then played dodge ball. Did that for an hour..the clip stayed in place the whole time. Forget about insurance just get one of those Pelican cases.

Question: On these newer phones that feature fingerprint scanners, do you HAVE TO enable the feature?

I'm not worried about anything, I just find it to be an incredible invasion of my privacy. I'm fine with a four or five digit pin code.

I'm sorry to break the news to you but you HAVE TO put 1 fingerprint and 1 toe print. Isn't that ridiculous?

lol lol Giggle giggle giggle Ha ha no you do NOT HAVE TO put in a fingerprint. You can even put one in and then delete it later if you want. You have options.

No Sir, this option needs to be initiated.

I do not think I would input the source needed for the option of this technology as well.

I do not use Skype for almost the same Security reasons also.

I cannot believe I forgot to mention the cleaning cloth you MUST have for your iphone or any device. They are microfiber cloths that clean the screen so well, like magic. I bought a 3 pack at Bed Bath and Beyond. I am so anal when it comes to a clean phone screen so I promise you won't be disappointed with these cloths.

Edit: Here is link to cloths

Re: iPhone 6 & 6 Plus - 09/29/15 05:06 PM

I did not update my iPhone did you? My husband did and his phone has problems. What he said is that he updated while connected to wifi which was a mistake. He should have kept his cellular data connected. He turned it off. This is what caused his phone problems. Now he cannot use the apps he downloaded and can only use his phone while connected to wifi. Hope that makes sense.

There is a patch coming out soon.

Did anyone have problems with the latest update?

I updated the software to ios 9 and I haven't had any problems. I just got the iPhone 6 Plus last year so I'm going to pass on this year's model and will get the iPhone 7 next.

The 6S just came out. It never ends with these tech gluttons. They're as greedy as insurance companies. Yeah, they give a lot away for show, but they're still pigs.

I just updated my phone, seems to be working fine. It turned my voicemail back on, damn. Now I have no excuse to not call people back. I liked being unavailable.

So far so good.

I got a look at the 6 yesterday. It's a sleek heavy phone. Almost the same size as the 5S, but a tad wider and maybe a tad taller. Round around the edges. It's hard to put my finger on it, but it makes me think of a phone that is made by a different company, not Apple. It's like an Asian phone, if that makes any sense.

My phone just glitched while I was on here. The bottom display bar was in the center of my screen. Weird. I kept refreshing the page but that did nothing. So I had to log off and close out the page. Now it's back to normal. So I am happy again.

Also shut down and reboot, do regular updates.

Remember, these new smart phones are little computers, not just phones like we once thought of them.

Re: iPhone 6 & 6 Plus - 10/16/15 05:46 PM

Yup. I do that. Lately, I've been using Siri, changed it to be an Australian male. He is so good to me. I wonder why I waited so long to use it. Siri really can be helpful.

My kids ask Siri all kinds of things just for fun so I thought I'd try. Right now I said Meow to Siri and he said. Nice kitty lol but when I asked Siri to say Meow, he wouldn't. He said That may be beyond my abilities at the moment lol

DP do you ever use Siri?

Re: iPhone 6 & 6 Plus - 08/02/16 03:08 AM

My kid has been messing around with my keyboard settings. Did you know that you can put a word in to make it write a totally different word?

Well, I've been learning the hard way. My friend texted me while I was driving. So when I came to the light I texted back "Can't text I'm driving", but instead I wrote Can't text I'm partying". So I looked at it and said wtf. She wrote back lol. So I tried to explain it but every time I wrote that word driving it came up as partying grin lol

And the other word I typed was I'm on my way home. But it typed out I'm on my way Batman. Wtf. She changed all kinds of words on me but those two I use the most. She named my friend Snoop Dog so when I'd type her name it would come up as snoop dog lol. My friends must have thought I went crazy tongue

(And it took me forever to type this post up cuz I haven't gone into my settings yet to change them back) Giggle giggle lol

I took a pic to show you what I mean

Re: iPhone 6 & 6 Plus - 08/02/16 02:50 PM

I have the IPhone 5s and voice text with auto spell all the time. I quickly send without checking and sometimes the funniest texts are sent. I know you can disable auto spell but it is convenient. We get a lot of laughs tho. lol

Btw, I've had my IPhone for over two years now. I thought I'd miss my landline or that it'd be an adjustment, but I don't miss it at all. I take my phone everywhere. smile

That's so funny TIS! So you don't miss the landline? They say that the new iPhone coming out will be much thinner and they will take the headphone jack out. So you will only be able to use wireless headphones.

I wear headphones all the time while I listen to my music. So much so, that my hubby said that when I was pulling the dog in from outside, it was dark and I couldn't really see or hear, I (unknowingly) got him away from a skunk lol I thought he was barking at a cat.

Re: iPhone 6 & 6 Plus - 08/03/16 03:26 AM

I forgot to ask my question in my last post. Will the removal of the headphone jack deter any of you from buying the iPhone 7?

Re: iPhone 6 & 6 Plus - 08/13/16 04:24 PM

My kid lost her phone at a concert. So we looked to see if we could find it using that app. It is in the heart of Santa Ana aka Stabba Ana in gang banger territory. F Troop gang to be exact. So I replaced it instead of going down there and trying to bust heads to get it back grin The cops don't even go in that neighborhood unless there's a shooting. But anyway, I lowered my bill by about 100 bucks, got more memory, the SPORTS package for me so I can watch my Giants, a mini iPad and all the channels. Premium chnls for 3 mos. And a $200 gift card. It's almost too good to be true! I almost didn't take it cuz I didn't believe the guy grin

http://www.cnbc.com/2016/09/11/samsung-tells-consumers-to-stop-using-galaxy-note-7.html

Samsung recalls 2.5M Galaxy Note 7 phones

Samsung Electronics on Saturday urged consumers to stop using Galaxy Note 7 smartphones immediately and exchange them as soon as possible, as more reports of the phones catching fire emerged even after the company's global recall.

The call from the South Korean company, the world's largest smartphone maker, comes after U.S. authorities urged consumers to switch the Galaxy Note 7 off and not to use or charge it during a flight. Several airlines around the world asked travelers not switch on the jumbo smartphone or put it in checked baggage, with some carriers banning the phone on flights.

In a statement posted on its website, Samsung asked users around the world to "immediately" return their existing Galaxy Note 7 and get a replacement.

"We are asking users to power down their Galaxy Note 7s and exchange them as soon as possible," Koh Dong-jin, Samsung's mobile president, said in the statement. "We are expediting replacement devices so that they can be provided through the exchange program as conveniently as possible."

Consumers can visit Samsung's service centers to receive rental phones for temporary use. Samsung plans to provide Galaxy Note 7 devices with new batteries in South Korea starting Sept. 19, but schedules for other countries vary.

Earlier this month, Samsung announced an unprecedented recall of 2.5 million Galaxy Note 7s worldwide just two weeks after the phone was launched. That move came after Samsung's investigation into reports of fires found that rechargeable lithium batteries manufactured by one of its suppliers were at fault.

The U.S. was among the first countries to take a step following the recall. Late Friday, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission urged owners of the phone to turn them off and leave them off. It also said it was working with Samsung and hoped to have an official recall "as soon as possible."

The recall by the safety commission will allow the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration to ban passengers from carrying the phones on planes. The FAA already warned airline passengers late Thursday not to turn on or charge the Galaxy Note 7 during flights and not to put the smartphone in their checked bags.

Scandinavian Airlines said Saturday that it has prohibited passengers from using the Galaxy Note 7 on its flights because of concerns about fires. Singapore Airlines has also banned the use or charging of the device during flights.

Samsung said it had confirmed 35 cases of the Galaxy Note 7 catching fire as of Sept. 1, most of them occurring while the battery was being charged.

There are at least two more cases that Samsung said it is aware of — one at a hotel in Perth, Australia, and another in St. Petersburg, Florida, where a family reported that a Galaxy Note 7 left charging in their Jeep had caught fire, destroying the vehicle.

Samsung released the Galaxy Note 7 on Aug. 19. The Galaxy Note series is one of the most expensive lineups made by Samsung.

With the new update for the iPhone you can go on YouTube to listen to music through Safari AND in another tab surf the web. Isn't it great?

Pressing the HOME button instead of sliding to open the phone is so much easier. Why didn't they do that from the beginning?

There are some really crafty features.

I like how they changed iMessage. Did you see how you can WRITE a message?
