Anthony Weiner - 06/27/13 01:04 AM

I just heard that Weiner is running for mayor of NYC and couldn't believe it. Then heard that he's leading in the polls. WOW don't you people deserve better??? If he gets elected, NYC gets what they deserve

I have to agree. But as the old bit of political wisdom goes, all politics are local.

(Old wisdom has nothing about making pictures of your ding dong, however.)

If New york elects him, they'll have a walking punch line as mayor for the next four years. While he shouldn't be barred from running for what he did, his actions show a disturbing lack of judgment that would give me pause before voting for him.

At another web board full of New Yorkers, I asked them why Weiner was winning and their answer was that simply his competition is shit. Even though this board is full of gay people, they actually despise Quinn (who's gay) with descriptions like "vile" and other not so nice things. (So much for political tribalism.)

But we must say this for Weiner if he indeed does win. It'll be one of the great political comebacks in recent American history to go from being forced to resign because he took pictures of himself to getting elected to the most visible mayorship in America.

That's exactly right, Ronnie. Quinn is an angry, overreaching pain in the ass. She was never going to get elected, regardless of what the polls said a month or two ago. Now you know I support gay marriage, but she turned my stomach when she tried to block Chick-Fil-A from opening in NYC because of their religious views. Yeah, they're crackpots. But this is free enterprise we're talking about. She's out of her fucking mind. Good riddance.

Considering New Yorkers voted for Hillary friggin' Clinton to be their Senator, I certainly wouldn't put it past them choosing Weiner for NYC mayor.

Oh, and refresh my memory, how does a believing Catholic support gay marriage again? uhwhat Is that stance from the Joe Biden wing of the church?

I guess it depends how brainwashed a Catholic you are. The Catholic Church itself supports/accepts a lot of things they're allegedly against if you have the money to pay for it. I found out first hand when I tried to get my first marriage annulled.

I should make it clear that I'm not attacking Catholics or the Catholic church. As someone who is religious, I feel a certain kinship to anyone of faith. But I'm continually bewildered by so many self-professed Catholics who seem to not take their Church or it's leadership seriously, which in turn leads to them being what has become known as "Cafeteria Catholics."

99% of Catholics aren't following the "rules". In fact, 100% of the ones I know (including myself when I still considered myself Catholic) never followed all the rules.

Quinn is deep in the pockets of the Real Estate lobby. She is seen as an extension of Bloomie for good reason, arguably she's been his right hand gal legislatively all these years. Now she's been parading around like she's the heir to the mayorship, which I don't like. The NYTimes did a great expose on her leadership and management style here noting "...in private, friends and colleagues say, another Ms. Quinn can emerge: controlling, temperamental and surprisingly volatile, with a habit of hair-trigger eruptions of unchecked, face-to-face wrath. She has threatened, repeatedly, to slice off the private parts of those who cross her. She is sensitive to slights: When a Queens councilwoman neglected to credit Ms. Quinn in a news release, the speaker retaliated by cutting money for programs in her district." http://www.nytimes.com/2013/03/26/nyregi...?pagewanted=all

I subscribed to L'Express, the French newsweekly. A couple of years ago, after Dominique Strauss Kahn was arrested in that sex case in NYC, they devoted an entire issue to "What Do the Americans Think of Us?" Of course, the French don't give a rat's ass what we think of them. The opening article thundered against American political mores: "Certainly the Americans have nothing to teach us about morality in politics" (loosely translated). They then went through a whole list of American political figures involved in public sex scandals, concluding with Anthony Weiner "...who sent over the Internet photos of sa virilite triomphant..."

Isn't that a far more elegant way of saying "hardon"? lol Gotta love the French language... wink
