Alice Cooper

So last night i watched the movie "Dark Shadows," and one of the highlights in the movie was the cameo by Alice Cooper. I'm familiar with him (as i think most people are), but not so familiar with his music. I only know the really popular songs (No more Mr. Nice Guy, Schools Out). I really enjoyed the songs played in Dark Shadows, songs i hadn't heard of, and i started wondering his impact on music. I used to think of him as sort of the flip side of the coin to Ozzy Osbourne. Is Alice Cooper a respect musician? Is there more to him than just School's Out? Did he contribute more to music than just a stage production a la KISS? Is he up there along side Pink Floyd, Zepplin, and other icons of the 70's?

I saw Alice Cooper concert in the mid 70s in Michigan. It was one of the best concerts I went to. The guy is definitely strange that's for sure but I liked his music (at least from back then). I'm not familiar with any recent stuff).

I have the "Love It To Death" and "Killer" albums, both excellent. My personal favorite (tho to the strange side), is 'The Ballad of Dwight Frye"(about a guy in a mental institution LOL). Other good tunes, Sun Arise, Black Juju and from the Killer LP, Dead Babies. Yea, I know.

You probably didn't expect a response from me of all people, but I have fun memories of that packed concert.

Cooper is a great golfer.

The funny thing about the guy is that once upon a time, he was according to old angry white people one of the most dangerous influences to the children.

Same Old Angry White People who worried about NWA back in the day, now Ice Cube is shooting beer commercials and kids movies.

TIS, i saw Cooper a couple of times back then in the 1970's. Great theatrical show, he really entertained his fans. A unique show to say the least.

Favorite song he did was Generation Landslide and of course School's Out. Billion dollar baby was another good one.

Cooper was drinking buddies with Jim Morrison.

It was held at the local armory. We waited in line forever,packed like sardines.When the doors opened, my feet literally left the ground for a couple seconds as the crammed crowd carried me a few feet.

Highlight was the Dwight Frye ballad in which Cooper had a hangman's noose around his neck and hung himself (kind of) LOL

He started out in local areas. I remember hearing commercials and thinking Alice Copper was a girl.

The only thing remotely close to a show of Cooper's that I ever saw was the "Feed My Frankenstein" bit from Waynes World.

Way back (again in the 70s) they had a late night tv show called "In Concert." Cooper was to be one of the performances. My husband & I were waiting to see him perform when an announcer said they didn't "feel it was suitable for the Michigan audience." WTF We were so pissed off that I wrote a letter to the tv station. Never heard back btw.

Seen him live a couple of times back in the 80's and 90's. Always put on a great show, i believe he was hanged and guillotined the times i saw him....

My favorite Alice Cooper song is "I Never Cried."

I remember reading a list of rock stars, who were saiod to have the highest IQs. The list was topped by Iron Butterfly's Taylor Kramer (a nuclear scientist, who worked on the development of the MX Missle), and Erik Brann. Alice Cooper was third or fourth, albeit a distant third or fourth.

Where was Ozzy Osbourne placed on this list Klyd??

Brian May has a doctorate in Astrophysics I think, so he must be up there.

He is also a wildlife enthusiast, keeps hundreds of animals in his mansion. Nice touch but his cleaning staff must be sick of clearing up crap i reckon?

Obviously he's not a rock star but i read that Quentin Tarantino has an IQ of 160 and is a member of MENSA.

Jim Morrison was said to have had an IQ of either 147 or 149.

Just for fun, I googled Alice C. with approx date of concert in Grand Rapids that I attended. I found this poster for sale on E-Bay. This must have been the one I attended. Good God, look at the admission. Big bucks!!!!

Actually, looks like the Stones concert was in Detroit (I don't remember them ever appearing in G.R. or I'd have gone). I'm not quite sure if the HUGE price of $2.50 (Discounted to $1.50) applies to the Cooper Concert or the others?

Forget Alice Cooper. I would of loved to have been at that show with the Stones and Hendrix!

$2.50 was too expensive, they had to knock a buck off. Unbelievable!

For sure. I love the Stones. Still $2.50, even back then, sounds awfully cheap. I don't remember paying that little for any concert. Yet, maybe it didn't seem that cheap back then.

The first concerts i ever went to were in 1974 maybe 75 and for some reason $12.50 comes to mind when i think of ticket prices. Then i remember standing in line at ticketron and paying $19.50 a few years later.

I remember paying about $12 face value to see Paul McCartney and Wings at the Garden in the late Spring of 1976. School hadn't quite let out yet, so it must have been around May. I was a junior at Mount Saint Michael. Four of us went with four chicks from Saint Barnabas over in Woodlawn. Good times.

We should all be as poor as Keef. Him and Mick just announced a couple concert dates, a couple in London and 2 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Those guys have to be close to 70 years old but they just keep rockin!

Another greatest hits LP in a couple weeks with a couple new songs. One is Doom & Gloom which they say sounds like the old stones. I haven't heard it myself though, so i can't vouch for it but i'd love to see them one last time before they hang it up.

My first concert was here in Toronto. A Canadian all female band named Kittie. Of all the concerts to be my first.....what an unfortunate way to start it off. I was 16 and spent most of the night trying to protect my then girlfriend from this crazy guy who kept trying to push us into the mosh pit. He kept trying to offer us this mouth guard with acid strips in it. Thank god i followed that up with the Weezer/Pixies concert a couple of years later.
