I caught this on Reddit; terrible.

F**k those kids. I know middle schoolers can be mean, I know kids tend to test their limits, but man...f**k those kids. There is no way on Earth my little girl would ever be so disrespectful to her elders.

One of the worst parts of this hard to watch video is, IMO, when some of the little shits tell her her children should kill themselves. Apparently one of them actually did a few years back.

There is some silver lining to this saga; once Reddit got a hold of the story and heard that Karen is a widow struggling financially, a poster started a fundraiser for her that at last count was over $100,000. I only hope like hell the money actually makes its way to her.

The heartbreaking thing? When she was asked if she'd continue working for the school, she replied "Yes...because not all kids are bad" What a saint.

Actually, as I understand it, it was social media website Reddit that organised the fundraiser; although Id like to think that many local parents would indeed be inclined to contribute.

That is just awful. mad Those kids were not just being kids and are in need of serious manners. Yea, I have to wonder if that kind of behavior is what they live with. Apple doesn't fall far from the tree? I think it was very sad.

Re: Kids Abusing Elderly Bus Monitor - 06/22/12 12:31 AM

I worked in a Middle School for 23 years and though it's an age I actually loved working with, we definitely had behavior issues with some. Some things are simply "uncalled for" and deserve action.

I remember, for instance, one young man was very angry after coming out of the Assistant Principal's office for discipline issue. He stormed out of the office saying "he didn't give a F and kicked the flag (on a stand on the floor) over. Needless to say he went right into the Principal's office. lol

Those kinds of things, like the bad rude attitude toward that poor lady on the bus I think are totally unnecessary and I always wonder what kind of home life these kids have (NOT to excuse their behavior).

I've seen many disturbing things on YouTube but this is right there on top of the list. I'd like to smack the shit out of the kids involved and their parents, too, just for raising animals like this. Come to think of it, I'd like to smack their parents TWICE.

SC,

There was one time for an 8th grade promotion ceremony the mother of one of the girl's promoting came to the ceremony with a bat to go after her ex-husband new girlfriend. panic Geez Louise! Campus supervisors were warned she was approaching the campus. She started mouthing off right at the ceremony and ended being escorted to the office where we called the police.

The Principal and campus supervisor had to hold her down cause she was going wild. The telephone flew off the receiver and hit one of the office workers in the face causing a very small cut that bled. Police came and if I recall took her away. BUT, her poor daughter, all dressed up and WAS happy about her promotion was crying seeing her parents (especially her mother) literally ruin the day for her. I felt bad for the girl because she fortunately, didn't seem anything like her mother.

All in a days work. lol

As said over on the RD...

While that would never be my kid in the first place, if it was, he'd get the beating of a lifetime once I heard about it. That's something I wouldn't even think about going to jail over child abuse for.

Their behavior is beyond disgusting. I've seen hyenas with better manners. I agree with SC. Not only should the kids be punished, but their parents should be smacked around for not teaching their kids better.

The little cowardly bastards are no doubt trembling now as they're getting a small taste of what it's like to be on the other end. The national reaction to their bullying is going to stain their reputations for a long time. The only difference is that the scorn they're facing is justified.

It's nice to see that this woman may get some solid financial relief.

Re: Kids Abusing Elderly Bus Monitor - 06/22/12 04:16 PM

This really is terrible to see. And the worst part is that it's something more common than most would want to admit. In grade 10 i had a teacher who was always the target of most students. There were a couple of times we (and i share blame in this)got her crying and leaving the classroom. We all thought we were funny.

I took another class with her in OAC/Grade 13 (Ontario used to have an extra year). Only this time, most of the troubled kids had already left the school. So the class was smooth, and she didn't take this chance to punish me. She passed me with an 80%, which was a confidence boost i needed at the time (things had been going south for me since Grade 10, the irony). I felt so ashamed. I apologized for my role in tormenting this poor woman. She forgave me.

Re: Kids Abusing Elderly Bus Monitor - 06/23/12 10:22 AM

It's also an interesting media phenomenon.
Last night, this was reported in one of the main tv news in Germany.
Of course, it's true, but why is it more relevant to German news than, let's say
- the situation in Syria,
- the outcome of the Rio conference,
- the murder of an elderly farmer in Baltimore, South Africa?

Just because it's a sensation on youtube?

Yeah I agree sometimes its strange how one story gets so much attention even in other countries. I always thought about that British girl who went missing Madeline McCann, there was massive media attention all over the world, even though sadly kids go missing all the time all over the place.

Re: Kids Abusing Elderly Bus Monitor - 06/23/12 03:15 PM

Did the bullies only write a letter or did they go and personally apologize as well. Glad to see at least one parent step up.

I heard a clip of the bus driver this morning on the radio that I didn't see here. She said the most hurtful comment was when one bully said, "I'll bet your kids want to commit suicide with a mom like you." She said she had a son who DID commit suicide. frown

The kids involved received one year's suspension and 50 hours of community service.

Re: Kids Abusing Elderly Bus Monitor - 07/02/12 02:08 AM

I think the 50 hours of community service will do them more good, if they're given duties that will wake them up. Suspension is not something that always works as a punishment, depending on how well supervised the kid is. If they're take it as a vacation to play video games and surf the internet, then not a good deterrent. The best are in school suspensions. They're not allowed to go to regular classes or socialize during school hours. It's basically an all day detention.

These kids are beyond the limits and they deserve to ask the public forgiveness and their parents need to fine for the misbehavior of their childs.
