The Royal Wedding - 04/29/11 06:07 AM

I don't really care that much, and I'm certainly not going to forgo sleeping to watch the coverage starting at 3AM for over 12 hours -- but -- I'm DVR'ing it (from BBCA) to fast-forward later.

But just wondering -- is this big news? Any opinions on the bride or groom, etc?

I don't necessarily also care that much about this, but I do think it's an "event" because it covers all those topical quadrants that draw people in: politics, traditionalism, fashion, celebrity, Anglophilia, etc.

Plus its not like UK recently has had a pleasant diversion from the economy and the Cameron budget-gutting or the seeming-utter-failure that was the Tory/Liberal govt coalition.

God I want Capo commentary, pronto! smile

Isn't today a national holiday over there?

Who wouldn't be patriotic on a holiday on Friday?

Today is a national holiday yes. Thank You Kate and William..

I just tuned into the news, and that's all they're covering. She did look beautiful and I loved her dress, although it's getting critiqued for not being "groundbreaking". I think she looked gorgeous.

Re: The Royal Wedding - 04/29/11 12:11 PM

Well, I wasn't going to get up at 1:00 a.m. (or whenever) to see it, but it's only 5:07 and I have to babysit today so I am tuning in just now. I assume the ceremony itself is over. confused I wasn't going to sit and watch it all day but I don't mind seeing parts of it. I have yet to see Kate's dress. I only saw a picture on line and it looks beautiful and she does too.

Like I said, I am not gonna watch it all but I do enjoy weddings and one of this caliber is fun to watch.

I can imagine all the American news anchors are really enjoying this type of news eh? What a cool vacation. smile

Why was Diana a "Princess" after she married Charles and Kate, I hear is a "Duchess?" confused I don't know the Royalty chain.

The queen bestows the title to the couple. I know Camilla now is a Duchess. They actually have 3 titles, but the prominent one is Duchess.

Maaan...those Brits really know how to do it grand lol. My buddy's wedding wasn't even close to this.

Prince William is a lucky man. What a fabulous looking bride. I wanna get married right now.

I agree.

Besides while trying to be "groundbreaking," you can poorly do so and just break wind.

For example, did you see that hat worn by one of Andrew/Fergie's kids? That convulted ribbon looked like a giant cookie cutter.

They are nice pics DeNiro

I haven't been able to sit and watch but rather get glimpses here and there. Huge number of people in the streets. Do the UK citizens get the day off of work?

The church looked beautiful, as did the bride. They look like a happy couple. I wish them the best. smile

Oh, and the weather looked pretty sunny no?

But yeah people get the day off from work. The wedding is a national holiday. Well, so I'm told.

Did I see Mohamed Al-Fayed walk in. Or was that someone who looked like him? It would be something if he got an invite.

Probably one of the representatives of those violent despot dictators in the Middle East.

Kate's mom looks really nice. A classy, elegant woman. I can see her face on a MILF tee shirt.

Kate's brother on the other hand is a little too feminine for me. I could see Elton John eyeing him up as eye candy.

Nice pictures, DeNiro. Thanks for sharing. Her sister looked stunning, too. I didn't realize her bouquet was lily of the valley, my favorite flower! Very sweet.

I thought she was gonna keep with tradition and lay her bouqet at the "Unknown soldier" plaque.

I saw Di's brother Charles. I don't remember seeing her 2 sisters there.

The church "Westminster Abbey" is over 1 thousand years old and is the church where all the monarchs are married. Amazing place..

Did anyone see this video of a priest doing cartwheels in The Abby after the ceremony? How long before Letterman parodies this, like the Dancing Ito's.

I watched the replay (long and short) and it was okay... not quite the uber-spectacle I was expecting, but it was nice. Good for them.

Where did some of those women get those "hats", though??

Well said mate. I'm not the biggest fan of the royals to be honest but events like this are great stuff, all the pomp and paegentry? Great stuff.....and oh yes the bank holiday was nice as well cool
Posted By: The Italian Stallionette

Re: The Royal Wedding - 04/30/11 02:12 PM

I didn't watch the entire repeat, but I love the excitement of it. I can certainly understand Yogi and all our UK friends pride over a nice event like this. Having no Royalty here, it IS interesting. smile

On a side note (and shame I me if I should have knonw this), I notice a bit after the ceremony they played "God Save The Queen" (a sort of Royal anthem??). Anyway, the same tune as the U.S., "My Country Tis of Thee." Didn't know our countries had that connection. smile

Anyway, I assume those "picking up" after this event have there work cut out for them. wink

Re: The Royal Wedding - 04/30/11 05:01 PM

I watched it all live from start to finish. Enjoyed every moment...except maybe seeing the horrific hats/dresses of Princesses Eugena & Beatrice. Aside from that I can't understand why William is going bald when both his parents had decent heads of hair, and his brother still posses that delightful mop at the top of his head. I suppose he inherited that traitfrom his uncles Edward & Andrew...

While it got a bit tiresome hearing the comparissons between Kate & Diana's wedding days, it really couldn't be avoided.

Looking back, I remember watching Charles & Diana's wedding and although it was exciting and she was beautiful and none of us could possibly know how things would turn out...I never quite pictured this delightful girl as a future queen In contrast, from the moment Kate stepped out of her car there was an elegance and dignity about her that seemed to assure that this beautiful young woman IS one day destined to become Queen.

By the way,k the dress was perfect and so was the veil.

Prince Charles has been losing his hair for years, it's just that his baldness is more obvious from the rear - unless it's a windy day.

Pippa looks pretty hot. Maybe Capo or Turi could make a play for her.

Re: The Royal Wedding - 05/01/11 12:30 AM

Pippa almost eclipsed the bride! She's gorgeous.

Re: The Royal Wedding - 05/01/11 01:19 AM

Pippa was gorgeous. I heard she did a taboo thing in that it's disrespectful to show your arms at The Abby.

Can any Brits here answer this protocol question. If Diana were alive as the mother of the groom would she have sat with the Royal family or banished to the other side with her family? And we she have gone out on the balcony?
Posted By: The Italian Stallionette

Re: The Royal Wedding - 05/01/11 01:58 AM

I liked Pippa's dress too. She is pretty. I think still Kate has an edge though what do I know? I am laughing at a couple of the hats though (especially Sarah Ferguson's girls. lol

Thanks, Signor V...I really hadn't noticed that about Charles, he seems to have hidden it very well. However I took a good look during a wedding rerun and his balding is there for all to see.

Apparently William inherited his mother's looks and his father's hair, or lack thereof!!

Awaiting a 'Brit' to answer but my hunch is that although the mother of the groom and future King, having lost her HRH status Princess Diana may not have been permitted nor wanted to sit with the Royal Family. She might've stood either with Kate's parents or even more likely, her own Spencer family. I would assume she would have nevertheless accompanied all to the back rooom for signing of the 'Registry'. Camilla would not have been there because had Diana lived, Charles would not have been permitted to re-marry.

So many possibilities!!!

It's doubtful Diana would have been invited to appear on the balcony or even into Buckingham Palace for the various receptions. She probably would have given them one of her own at another location.

Just my guesses...pending more accurate info from 'a Brit'.

Don't get me started on the veil. It was as good as a sheet thrown over that poor woman's head. It was so thick, it looked like she had frowned, but that was actually the veil's way of hanging over her head. Her sister had a better dress than that of the bride IMHO. As for the the vows and the rambling before that, Zzzzzzzzzz. They still say all that in the churches in England? jeez! And grooms attire! That blue ribbon went very well with that red coat. lol He should've worn something dark or at least navy blue.

Good thing I don't care, or I'd have written a couple of more pages on how awful it was. grin

Re: The Royal Wedding - 05/01/11 03:52 PM

I heard a commentary last week by Bill Maher who talking of how women get into this kind of thing and are all excited about the "wedding dress." I like to see fashion at these types of events, (ie like Red carpet to awards, etc) I admit it. tongue

Every woman has their own specific taste in dresses. When I married I had (and still prefer) a little more lace or fanciness as opposed to plain, but I did like Kate's dress. I thought it was very beautiful. All a matter of taste BUT us ladies can be very critical of fashion, especially when it comes to wedding dresses. We know what we like. wink

I didn't care for the blue sash worn by Willie. It didn't blend nicely with the black hat and pant. I realize that is the miltary dress uniform, but ....
