Introduction. - 10/26/09 04:07 PM

I was looking to see if you guys had an introduction thread. Guess not? Its all good. Anyway, Im new here obviously and just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Laura Yurkin, a senior in high school. Also from South Florida. Im a HUGE Godfather fan. I've read the book, have the trilogy on dvd (Coppola Restoration), and know just about every line in that movie. lol.
I'm a big fan of Mario Puzo. So far I've read 4 books from him and am currently on my 5th one.

Any questions, feel free to ask! grin

Welcome to the boards.... I see you have a sense of humor, so you should fit right in.

FWIW - When I was a senior in high school, "The Godfather" was published. It was the first novel I read as a high school graduate.

Re: Introduction. - 10/26/09 04:44 PM

Its such a great novel. I love the way Puzo writes. I'm on a mission to read all of his books. haha

By the way, thank you for the warm welcomes!

Welcome, Yurkin.

What part of Florida are you from? I spend 2-3 months per year in Delray Beach.

Hey I live in Boca Raton! But I go to school in Deerfield Beach.
So yeah, not far at all.

Wow, we're neighbors! My condo is in the Pineapple Grove section of Delray, right off Atlantic Avenue and Ocean Boulevard (Near Boston's and the Marriott).

My cousin has a place in Boca on NW 13th Street, just off Glades Road (around the corner from the big Barnes and Noble).

I really like it in Deerfield, too. As a matter of fact, when people come to visit me in the wintertime, I usually recommend the Howard Johnson's in Deerfield because it's clean, reasonably priced, and next to everything. I especially like Flanigan's for a burger, a beer and clams on the half shell.

And being that this is a gangster inspired website, did you know that Al Capone had a place in Deerfield? Deerfield Island Park was a giant illegal casino/speakeasy back in the '30s.

Small world.

Re: Introduction. - 10/26/09 05:39 PM

Your condo is in a nice section of town! Sadly, I've never been to Boston's. Passed by it! Never been inside though. lol.

I also have an idea of where your cousin lives. Im over by Camino. A few blocks south of Mizner Park.

Deerfield beach is really nice. Flanigan's is awesome. Actually ate there Friday night! (Great, Im hungry now :D)

Deerfield Island Park... I think I went there a long time ago. I remember someone calling it "Capone's Island". You can only get there by boat, right?

Re: Introduction. - 10/26/09 05:45 PM

You ate at Flanigan's Friday night? What a small world!

Yes, you have to take the ferry to get to Deerfield Island Park.

Mizner Park is gorgeous. Great bars and restaurants. I especially love Pranzo, the Italian restaurant and outdoor cafe.

Re: Introduction. - 10/26/09 05:48 PM

Ah yes, then I've been there. Its been years, though. I believe I was 9 or 10 at the time. I always glance at it whenever I pass over the Hillsboro Bridge. haha!

Yurkin! Welcome. Its nice to have some young blood; a new perspective. Most of us here live in retirement homes. We fought in the big one or in the Rosato/Pantageli wars of 1958. Pizzaboy, well, he lives in van down by the river. He fantasizes alot about Boca, Fla, Vegas etc. You get the picture. Don't let my name fool you. I'm a male, but not a transgender male. MaryCas is my code name with the Culinary Institute of America. Florida.....that's near Miami? Have fun and ask lots of dumb questions; we won't know the difference. grin

Hey, I've got two weeks to go. I'm still cogent and lucid. And I've started composing and writing the musical, "The Godfather, What a Guy". But I love ya, PB

Now back to Yurkin. We don't want to hijack her first thread...my apologies for this little diversion.

Here's my individual routine that I posted on youtube, from this past May.

Re: Introduction. - 10/30/09 05:24 PM

That's fantastic, Yurkin. Will you be joining the Military after High School?
Posted By: Yurkin

Re: Introduction. - 11/01/09 10:30 PM

svsg,

Thank you! I guess practicing everyday pays off! grin

Klydon1,

I was in the Jrotc class my freshman year and I heard that after school they had this drill team. I joined and have been on the team ever since! Plus, I had a friend who helped contribute to me joining.

pizzaboy,

Im more than likely going to be enlisting in the Marines after I graduate. If I dont, then I'll be attending EMT school to become a firefighter/paramedic.
