I already have mine, I was at Egidio's at 6:30 this morning.

I swear to God. I'm not kidding either.

Believe it or not, my local Shop Rite makes really good ones. Not up to Egidio's standards, but definitely better than Rockland Bakery. Rockland Bakery makes great bread, but I'm not crazy about their cakes.

Supermarket bakeries have come a long way. I do most of my supermarket shopping at the Food Emporium, up on Shore Road in New Rochelle. Their cakes are great. Their rolls and bagels are pretty good, too.

What is sfingi?

Re: Happy St. Joseph's Day - 03/19/08 03:04 PM

It's a cream filled pastry traditionally served on St. Joseph's day.

I'm sure Cardi will post a picture when he sees this.

I was startled when I clicked and saw that picture...it took me right to it since the last post I read was the one before it.

None that I've ever seen. I hope St. Joseph isn't reading this.

They are called:
Zeppole di San Giuseppe (St. Joseph's Day Cream Puffs)
I have been eating them for like 2 weeks now. My mother used to by them for me at this time of year for my namesake.
I really like the ones filled with Ricotta.

Re: Happy St. Joseph's Day - 03/19/08 11:53 PM

My husband brought home a little bakery box tonight and I was so excited because I was SURE that he had brought me sfingi. However, there was an eclair and two chocolate cups filled with mousse and a cannoli. I certainly wasn't going to complain, but it's St. Joseph's!!!

And Beth, I don't know what the locker room is like at YOUR gym, but those would be some bizarre looking breasts! Welcome back, btw. You've been missed!!
